APPLICATIONS

DESCRIPTION

BLOCK LEVEL

GENERATOR BLOCK

DP-FRA-805 is a rugged and portable Frequency Response Analyzer capable of analyzing the phase and gain

characteristics of a system. The system under test is stimulated by the user defined waveform and obtained

response is correlated with the applied stimulus by the on-board DSP processor to determine the phase

difference and the gain.

DP-FRA-805 is used as a stand alone equipment in control system applications such as :

Aircraft Instrumentation/ system controls

Aerodynamics tests - study of applied forces to wing structures

Rocket propulsion and vectoring technology

Filter Characterisation

The DP-FRA-805 consists of

Generator block

Analyser block

Interfacing block

Synchronisation block

Processor block

The generator block comprises of the waveform RAM, a high speed DAC, the filter and the output drive

amplifier.

A 16-bit high speed DAC and the waveform RAM generate the user defined waveform. The user defined

waveform can be a sine, a step, a ramp or any arbitrary waveform of desired frequency. The generated

waveform is then filtered by a fourth order low pass filter to eliminate unwanted high frequency signals.

In sweep mode, both linear and logarithmic sweep options are provided. Smooth stepping from one

frequency to the other is possible. The starting of the waveform at exact 0° and stopping at exact 0° can also be

configured. An additional 16-bit DAC generates a programmable offset.

The Generator circuit is totally isolated from the DSP processor circuit. The power to the generator block is

provided by using a DC/DC converter. Digital signals from the system board to the Generator block are

optically isolated by the high speed opto-couplers.

The output is short circuit protected for a maximum current of 40mA.

INTERFACING BLOCK

SYNCHRONISATION BLOCK

PROCESSOR BLOCK

The Analyzer block consists of two sections namely acquisition section and analyzer section.

In the acquisition section, the two independent programmable gain amplifiers, initially amplify the response and stimulus signals

respectively. The acquisition is then carried out by two 16 bit 200KHz A/D converter which acquires the two inputs at the same instant.

The pacer for these A/D converters are derived from the generator block. This acquisition section is also isolated from system ground using

opto couplers, thus enabling true floating measurements.

The analyzer section involves the DSP processor, which correlates the acquired response signal and the stimulus signal to calculate the

phase and gain characteristics. The noise, DC offset and the harmonics if present in the response signal, are successfully removed by the

DSP processor by using the correlation algorithm. By increasing the integration cycles even a signal buried in noise can be accurately

measured. The analyzed results are provided as an user-friendly visual online graph with range selection and zooming options. Textual

reports for the raw data and the analyzed data are provided. Provision for offline printing of the graph is also provided.

The interfacing block interfaces the PCI bus with the generator and analyzer block. It consists of PCI interface chip and glue logic.

This interface is buffered by a 8 K x 32 dual port static RAM.

The DP-FRA-805 channels can be configured as Master or Slave. The channel in master mode provides synchronization signals to the

channels configured in slave mode. This allows construction of multi Axis systems. The signals are TTL compatible and consist of

waveform clock and synchronization Clock. The DP-FRA-805 is available in single channel and configurable for multiple channels upto

three channels.

The processor block consists of latest processor, Hard Disk, Floppy Disk Drive, CD Rom Drive, Printer Interface, USB, Ethernet and Serial

Interface.

Embedded operating software has provision to store the test results in the system hard disk in binary or text formats. The software has

provision to plot gain and phase graphs which can be printed on a standard external printer.
