The process to demolish a substandard structure in Texas can be complicated, but there’s a reason for that complexity. The United States and Texas Constitutions provide strong protections from the government taking private property. In addition, state law governs much of the process, and a city ordinance must be in compliance with that law. This session will provide a detailed overview of the legal requirements relative to investigation, compliance, and preparation for prosecution or abatement proceedings for a substandard structure.
