Add Recuva to Your Toolkit
• Recuva is a effective, free, file recovery tool and can be downloaded from www.pirform.com , Piriform is also the vendor of CCleaner
• Recuva can be effective for recovering accidently deleted files, plus files from a “dead” hard
• Recuva is easy to use and requires no technical knowledge
Microsoft Security Report
• System “vulnerabilities” increased 56.3% in the second half of 2014
• The term “vulnerabilities” does not include “spyware” malware
• The principle entry points are via, browsers, Java and Adobe Flash
Security in Depth
• All Windows versions have a software “firewall” on each computer• If you employ a router, the router also contains a firewall that “protects” all
computers on your network• There is a new product (free and paid versions) that can provide a
significant degree of additional protection, it’s called Glasswire• What is unusable about Glasswire is that it is an additional firewall that
works in conjunction with the Windows Firewall and provides additional “protection” on each computer on which it is installed
• I have used free version of Glasswire for several weeks on a Win 8.X and a Win 10 installation and believe it is affective
• Glasswire can be downloaded at this link https://www.glasswire.com/• The following page provides a graphic of Glasswire installed on a typical
network

Backup and Storage
• There are a variety of places that a User can backup data, including CD/DVDs, flash drives, external hard drives and the “cloud”
• What argues for cloud storage is that the depth of security is difficult to replicate, your data can be accessed from anywhere in the world with an Internet connection and most important, the “redundancy” provided by virtually all major vendors cannot be duplicated by a typical User
• Users should consider cloud storage for at least one component of your backup strategy
• You can purchase a much capacity as needed at economical prices
• If you have a Microsoft account, Microsoft has a special offer that for $9.99 per month a User gets 1 TB on storage, plus Office 365
• To view the offer logon to www.outoook.comClick the icon, on the Menu bar at the top leftSelect OneDrive from the drop downAt the bottom left click, “”Get More Storage”, thenAt the right click “Buy More Storage” and you will see the 1 TB & 360 offer
Speed Test
• There is a new, free “speed test” tool that is available in the Microsoft store for Win 8.X and Win 10 Users
• If you like to check your upload and download speeds, this app is a good addition to your toolkit
• Here’s the download link http://apps.microsoft.com/windows/en-us/app/network-speed-test/700659b6-f843-4878-ae6e-5e9f72d4eb58

Win10 Basic Navigation
Mastering Any New Operating System• If you are to enjoy computer usage, you need get over your reliance to
change• All operating systems are essentially the same, in that they all perform the
same functions• What is different about operating systems is that the “look” different and
nothing is ever located where it was in a previous system• Computer competency is not about knowledge it’s about frequency, you
learn by doing!• The more time you spend the better you get• You develop competency by mastering two concepts:
1. Spend time with the Graphical User Interface (GUI) so you understand basic navigation and how to access basic tools and links, and
2. Don’t worry about finding things in Win10, use the “Cortana” search box to find what you need
