For Oak Hill Residents
Dear Residents, Families and Staff,
Well the weather change reminds us that Christmas
is on its way. Oak Hill strives to provide a wonder-
ful Christmas experience for the residents, families
and staff at Oak Hill. We know that Christmas is a
very unique time of the year and we want everyone
associated with Oak Hill to feel a part of this special
celebration.
To begin with, you will see Oak Hill transformed as
the staff decorate beginning December 2. The deco-
rating comes to a climax on December 5 when all
decorating is done except for putting the special
touches that our residents add to the trees the even-
ing of December 5. This evening, not only will we
decorate the trees in the three different sections of
Oak Hill but we will also have outstanding entertain-
ment and a visit and pictures with Santa. Entertain-
ers include the Brass Band, Larry Hallar and Lucy
Enbring who will rotate through the building stop-
ping at Arbor Court Activity Area, Magnolia Terrace
and Whispering Pines. Please feel free to join us for
this event.
On December 6, St. Nicholas Day, we kick off the
Twelve Days of Christmas. Each weekday, the resi-
dents will be treated to a different flavor of ice
cream. A drawing will be held on each of these days
for the staff who tirelessly provide outstanding ser-
vices to the residents at Oak Hill throughout the
year.
We then move on to our Resident/ Family Christmas
parties. The residents of Oak Hill have always en-
joyed having family times during the holidays. We

want to help residents continue this tradition while
we do all the work. Each resident is asked to invite
two special guests to enjoy a Christmas dinner or ap-
petizers followed by entertainment. This is always a
special night when Oak Hill residents look forward
to having their family with them. You don’t want to
miss this evening. On December 8, Whispering
Pines residents will celebrate in the Oak Hill Activity
Center. An array of appetizers will be served that
evening along with great entertainment. On Decem-
ber 10, Arbor Court will have their dinner and en-
tertainment. This year we will actually have two en-
tertainers, Forest Bevineau and Bob Tyler. One will
be in the Arbor Court Dining Room and one in the
Activity Center. This will allow us more room due to
the huge turnout that we have for this event. The fi-
nal party will be held on Sunday, December 15 on
Magnolia Terrace. Christmas dinner will be served
followed by entertainment by a quartet, Rivertown
Sound.
In addition to these events, there are many other
special activities planned and several groups that
will sing Christmas carols or provide Christmas en-
tertainment. Also watch for the lamppost decorated
by Oak Hill at the Monroe County Courthouse.
I want to personally wish you a wonderful Christ-
mas. I hope you have special times with family and
friends and that you are blessed during this season
and throughout the year.

Here is what our community at Oak Hill has to say about Faith (taken from the nomination forms for Em-ployee of the Month): She is great with the residents and families. She follows-up with things and takes great care of her residents.

Faith has been with Oak Hill’s nursing department for 9 years. She is currently an L.P.N. She lives in Harrisonville with her 12 year old daughter, Elizabeth. Some hobbies Faith and her daughter enjoy together are: roller coasters, ghost hunting, camping, big fat bonfires and cooking. Faith has many memorable moments at Oak Hill thanks to great co-workers. A most embarrassing mo-ment at Oak Hill...well she has too many to mention. She finds it embarrassing trying to pro-nounce the different bacteria to Doctors. One of Faith’s achievements is being a nurse. She is also proud she was able to raise her daughter on her own, survive it, and be happy.

dent and family needs.
She is a great nurse who cares about the residents. She also makes sure her staff is getting all their work done. She is good with all the resi-dents and families no matter who they are. She is an example to all employees with not calling in sick even though there are days I am sure she could.
She always makes sure the resi-dent needs are being met.
She goes above and beyond to make sure all the resident’s needs are met. Other Nominations:
Hollie Bruce (CNA) – She has worked really hard on the sched-ule which she had no training to do and she has done a terrific job. She gave all she could to try to help with the schedule. Always has a positive attitude. Never a cross word or disrespect to supervisors when given extra duties. Debra Carrico (Housekeeping) – Very hard and caring coworker. Never complains and is happy to be here. Enjoys her work. She goes out of her way to do extras. When housekeeping items are needed and even though it’s not her hall,
she still gets them for us. What-ever hall she’s working, she’s al-ways happy with a smile on her face. I always see her helping tak-ing residents up the hall for break-fast. Does a very good job clean-ing, very dependable. Very good to residents and coworkers. Goes out of her way to help others. Al-ways has a smile on her face. Very caring and sweet person.
Juno Dingwell (Dietary) – Im-mediately notified nursing staff that resident was choking.
Debbie Adams (Housekeeping) – Very good worker. Always will-ing to help other employees or residents. Very dependable. She’s a very caring housekeeper, does a great job. She’s always there if you need her. She helps anyone she can with anything. She’s amazing at what she does and truly cares about her job, the resi-dents, and the staff she works with. She is the best housekeeper. Takes her job seriously. Always lends a helping hand. She teaches how to get things off the floors that help it look better. Great as-set. Operation Hope
Oak Hill is helping bring Christmas to children. There will be a tree in the lob-by with tags on it for you to take. The tag lists an item(s) that is specific to a requesting child in need. If you would like to sponsor a gift for Operation Hope, you may take a tag, buy the sug-gested item, and return it to Oak Hill’s
receptionist by December 5th. 7
Therapy Tip of the Month:
There's no denying it -- winter takes a toll on skin. Indoor heating, cold,
wind, and heavy clothing.
Smooth on Moisturizer: Keep your skin moist to reduce redness and itching. The thicker the cream or ointment, the better it is at locking water into your skin. Use moisturiz-ing soap and a creamy lotion after you shower, bathe, or wash your hands. Choose fragrance-free prod-
ucts to avoid allergic reactions.
Wear Soft Layers: Frosty tempera-tures and wind can irritate your skin. Bundle up in a soft scarf, hat, and gloves when you go outside to protect exposed areas of skin. Dress in layers that you can peel off to avoid getting overheated. Avoid wool, denim, and other fabrics more likely to irritate your skin than
cotton.
Drink Water: To pump up moisture, drink plenty of water. You’ll know if you’re getting enough because your urine will be a pale yellow. If your urine is bright yellow or dark-
colored, you may need more water.

I sure want to say thanks so much
for all the kind staff and to Rebecca for
all her help. Sherri is a peach-I should
not pick out a few because everyone is so
kind. You certainly can be so proud. And
also the wonderful staff in the cafeteria
are all so precious and kind. Oak Hill
does not come up short anywhere!
Again, thanks so much for everything.

To the Staff of Oak Hill,
Thank you for the kindness and helpful-
ness you showed toward my father, Carl
Huch, while he was a resident at Oak Hill.
My father never complained abut being a
resident. He knew that he was well taken
care of by the staff. His stay was short
and his friends he made were many.
Oak Hill and its staff make this an out-
standing facility.
Thank you again for everything.
Yours Truly,

We have several Boy Scout, Girl

will be in the facility carol singing.
Most of them will come in the facility

from their busy holiday schedule to
come into the facility to share with

“SOUP & PIE SUPPER”
The soup and pie supper was a huge
success. We ran out of the potato
soup by 5:15 so we had to make
more. We had roughly 72 carry-out
orders which kept the kitchen staff
hopping to keep the pans filled for
the carry-outs. We took in a total of
$1,761.00. I don’t have all the ex-
penses in yet, but I will let everyone
know what our final count is. The
proceeds went to the Resident Coun-
cil. Thank you to everyone that
helped make this a success. Special
thanks go to Rhonda & Litney and
the dietary and housekeeping staff
for all the help before, during and
after the supper. Thank you also to
the department heads that helped
throughout the day and that evening.
It could not be possible if we did not
all pull together and help each other
out. Thank you to the volunteers that
came in early in the morning to get
the soup on and those that helped
with the pies, serving, doing dishes
and anything else they did behind
the scenes. Thank you everyone!!!!

December Activities
The times listed on the calendar for car-
oling are when each group will arrive at
Oak Hill. They are going to carol
throughout the facility and the time
listed isn’t necessarily when they will be
at Magnolia Terrace.
Congratulations to Ed Nobbe who won a
free lunch by attending our monthly Res-
ident Council meeting. He chose to go to
Bobecks. We will leave at 11:00am on
December 3rd. All seniors receive $2.00
off of their bill.
Sign up quick for December’s scenic
rides on the 10th and 17th. We will view
Christmas lights around Waterloo and in
Belleville at Our Lady of the Snows
Shrine (12/10). If we have enough inter-
est, we can add a trip for another night.
Every year the Girl Scout Troop #387
comes to visit us. This year, they will be
hosting BINGO on 12/14 at 1:15pm.
On December 20th at 6:30pm we will be
visited by some young piano students
who will be having a recital for us. This
is a chance for them to perform for an
audience, maybe for the first time.
Forrest will be performing for Magnolia-
Terrace residents on Dec. 21st at 6:30pm.
Did You Know?
-Sugar free items on the salad bar are
marked with a red spoon?
-Arbor Court activities and church ser-
vices are listed on the Magnolia Terrace
Activity Calendar. They are denoted by
two asterisks (**).
White Elephant Bingo
In January we will be having a White El-
ephant Bingo. Residents are encouraged
to bring a nice item from their home that
they don’t want anymore. Keep this in
mind when you receive a gift at Christ-
mas that you may not want. :)
With much love, the staff at Magnolia Terrace wishes you a Very Merry Christmas & an even Happier New Year!

Fall Bazaar Held on November 9 at Oak
Hill
Thank you to all the residents, families
and staff who supported our Fall Ba-
zaar on November 9! It was another
successful fundraiser for the residents
of Whispering Pines. A special thank-
you to Frances Studt for making her
delicious cream puffs for us again this
year! As always, the cream puffs sold
out quite early in the day. Also, this
event could not have occurred without
the help of Whispering Pines staff and
resident families.
The Fall Bazaar consisted of a Flea
Market, Raffle, Bake Sale and over 20
craft vendors. It is always a lot of fun!
We have a wish list of items that we
would like to purchase that includes
new DVD players, movies, FurReal ani-
mal friends and various décor for the
unit. Two oil paintings of scenes with
pine trees were purchased from a ven-
dor at the Fall Bazaar and may be
viewed at the end of Spruce and Cedar
hallways.
Congratulations to the Raffle Winners at
the Fall Bazaar!
Rita Biffar in dietary won the beverage
dispenser filled with candy, Catherine
Kutterer of MT won the 31 “Cinch It

kets in the front lobby. The drawing for
those items will be held on Friday, Decem-
ber 20th, at 3 pm. Good luck!

the residents of WP.
The monkeys are very realistic as they coo
