WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE CLOUD?Survey data: EU market trends
2
CLOUD & HOSTING PROVIDERS SURVEY
We surveyed 400+ service providers in 17 European countries to examine the current state of play in the European cloud market. How are they addressing the growing demand for cloud?
3
DATA CENTRE OF CHOICE
Carrier-neutral data centres are the preferred choice for European service providers Leading this trend was the Netherlands
with 75% of respondents colocating in CNDCs
Spain showed the lowest inclination for carrier-neutral data centres, preferring to use Telco owned data centres (54%)
4
CUSTOMER DEMAND TODAY
Demand for traditional hosting still exceeds demand for cloud in Europe
European enterprises are not yet at the level of cloud adoption that might have been expected a year or so ago
This could be because enterprise IT buyers are still confused about how to migrate to the cloud
5
CLOUD REVENUE SHARE 2012 TO 2015
However, a majority of European service providers expect the cloud wave to hit within the next 3 years
2012 2015
This is explained by the interest that cloud and hosting providers are encountering from customers migrating more of their workloads. This not only increases the total hosting and cloud market but also the share of cloud as part of the total market.
6
REVENUE IMPACT OF CLOUD
73% of European service providers are positive about the impact of cloud of their revenue
At 96%, respondents in Spain were most optimistic. This was closely followed by the Nordics (83%) the UK (79%) and the Netherlands (70%)
7
KEY COMPETITORS
European service providers don’t consider international players as their key competitors
This could be explained by the fact that Pan- European and U.S. providers are perceived as offering different products which target different requirements
Local providers offer more customised solutions which address the immediate need of their enterprise customers
8
STRATEGIES TO LEVERAGE CLOUD
The top 5 strategies by European service providers
Looking underneath these figures, we found that a large majority (61%) execute 3 or more strategies
These strategies tend to be emergent, ad-hoc, and mostly driven by customer requirements
