On Wednesday 17 October 2012 the European Commission Office in Wales will host a conference as part of Single Market Week, and the 20th anniversary of the Single Market. It will focus on the particular opportunities and challenges Welsh SMEs face when accessing the Single Market.

Cardiff is named European Capital for Sport Cardiff has been successful in securing the prestigious title of European Capital of Sport 2014. The announcement was made by officials from the European Capitals of Sports Association (ACES) at an event held in Valencia this week. It was recognised that Cardiff has firmly established itself as a leading city for sport, offering state of the art stadiums and facilities including the Millennium Stadium, SWALEC Stadium and Cardiff International Sport Stadium. European Commission announces the winners of the European Union Prize for Literature
European Commissioner Androulla Vassiliou will announce the winners of the 2012 European Union Prize for Literature (EUPL) at the Frankfurt Book Fair.
The 12 winners this year come from Austria, Croatia, France, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia and Sweden.
