About Us
RSCni is one of 13 JISC-funded Regional Support Centres operating throughout the UK.
Our common role is to support FE colleges and HEIs in their development and use of e-Learning/ILT. We do this through a mix of information, advice and strategy guidance provided through face-to-face workshops; consultancy operations; electronic newsletters; college support visits; our own VLE; and various online materials and tools.
There are 6 staff on our team and our manager is Martin Peoples.

Who is using what in the academic world?Research published last autumn by JISC into the attitudes of 16-18 year olds across the UK who are hoping to go to university showed that they are ‘digital natives’ who use social networking sites regularly and are quickly able to perceive the potential benefits and limitations of new technologies in their social and academic lives, when presented with examples of their use.
Use of the Internet is the norm for these young people, with 76% having accessed the Internet from their bedrooms, nearly two-thirds using social networking sites ‘regularly’ and 84% agreeing with the statement that they ‘like to keep up-to-date with new technology and use it as much as possible both for study and in my free time’.
On the other hand – among the over-18s in a recent survey at Oxford University, the top three uses were wikis and Wikipedia; blogs; and communication tools such as MSN Messenger and discussion forums.
Social bookmarking; social networking and image and video sharing were low in their usage patterns.

The old way:•Constructing your own list of ‘Favourites’ on your browser•The more you use it the more difficult it becomes to control•Finding items is dependent upon how organised you are in creating the original lists and folders
Social Bookmarking:•Each website is selected and stored together with others in a defined website area•Each stored item is ‘tagged’ with keywords – either assigned/suggested by the host service or chosen by you•The items are found by using a tag list or tag cloud
An example: http://del.icio.us/RSCNI_ERESOURCES
This can then be converted into a website tag cloud: RSCni e-Resources
