Library Offers FREE Internet and Technology Classes this Fall
Homeschoolers and the Library
September is a time for back to school and new beginnings. With this in mind, Children’s Librarian, Jane Stanwood, is inviting home-schoolers to explore the library on Thursday, September 12th, at 10:00 a.m. She will be discussing the abundance of materials: books, databases and on-line services available for home educators. If you are, or plan to be, a homeschooler, let Jane show you how the Atlantic County Library System/Mays Landing Branch can facilitate your children’s education.
Challenge yourself to learn something new! Our Fall Calendar of Events has a varied selection of programs for children, teens, and adults. There’s something here for you.
If you are weary of asking your children or grandchildren to please slow down as they once again attempt to show you how to use your iPAD, laptop, e-reader, or whatever new tech device that’s still sitting in the box, turn to the library.
This fall we have a bumper crop of free internet and technology classes. We offer:
• Individual Technology Tutoring for adults provided by the tech savvy students from the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey. Participants should bring their own devices and all of their questions.
• iPad Workshop taught by Matt Berges, • One–on-one Internet Training in the Reference Center. • Wolfie Thompson returns on September 18th for his popular
Wednesday night personal computer classes.
Take advantage of these free opportunities to end your technology frustrations. See our Calendar of Events for dates and times.

Writing as Witness
New Jersey will be hosting a Writing As Witness program here on Tuesday, November 19th, at 7:00 p.m. This program is dedicated to local Holocaust survivors. Its mission is to assist those who wish to write memoirs or record family histories, so these stories may be passed to future generations. Come learn about the Writing as Witness program and perhaps meet some local survivor authors.

Staff RecommendationsAutumn is a perfect time to stretch your mind, to leave your comfort zone and try something new. An easy way to do this is to read an author you’ve never tried before or to watch a film you’d never considered. The staff at the Atlantic County Library System/Mays Landing Branch wants to share some of our recent favorites.
The documentary PLANEAT, produced and directed by Shelly Lee Davies is reviewed here by Sue Marx.
Mays Landing Library recently acquired a DVD highlighting the reasons why a plant based diet is good for not only the planet earth but for a healthy body. Scientists and the medical establishment presents proof through trials and studies that meat and dairy are not healthy foods in many ways. Inter-spersed throughout the hour presentation are gorgeous, enticing vegetable based dishes guaranteed to whet anyone’s appetite.
PLANEAT
A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness / Reviewed by Lisa Michel.
Within these pages lies a world of action, magic, mystery, and an epic love story that will leave you weeping. I would like to stress how refreshing and unique the author’s writing style is. Most novels have a tendency to make me rush to the end for the dramatic conclusions like a giant cliff hanger from start to finish. But this book managed to keep my small attention span glued to each page by simply giving the answers throughout the story but simultaneously giving you all new questions to puzzle over!
A Discovery of Witches
This is not a simple paranormal romance, but a wild journey of exploration into the imagination. Let me know what you find on your journey!
