What is family?
In a group of two or three, come up with one or two words that describe
what a family is. Then, draw a picture of what family is.
Post it on the door.
How is family formally described?
A group of two or more persons related by birth, marriage or adoption
residing together in a household
Types of families
• Nuclear family – Mom, Dad, kids
• Cohabitation – Living together,
NOT married
• Couple with no children
• Single parent families
• Blended (step) families
• Adoptive families • Extended families – Parents, kids,
grandparents
• Boomerang families– Children who move
back in with their parents

For each type of family, come up with at least one TV show or movie that
has that type of family in it.
