BIOWASTE TREATMENT EVOLUTION
• The biowaste production shape is quite stable.• Philosophy:
• Sharp increases have to be absorbed by aerobic composting facilities• The stable biowaste has to be treated with anaerobic digestors.

Waste management in the AMB
SUM-UP AND CONSIDERATIONS
1‐ The Area Metropolitana of Barcelona is a high population density urban área (>5.000 inhab/km2)
2‐ Their MSW contains around 36% of organic matter (biowaste)
3‐ Increase in additional taxes to landfilling and incinerator will increase treatment of wastes in our MBT facilities.
4‐ Collection door to door achieves better biowaste material (less impurities).
5‐ AMB has 2 composting plants and 4 ECOPARCS (MBT plants) to treat the unsortedMSW and the biowaste produced.
6‐ Currently biowaste seasonal fluctuation is not significant.
7‐ Combining ECOPARCS(MBT) + Incinerator reduces rejected materials to landfillingto less tan 10%.
