Walkathon This Friday
Unfortunately I wasn’t able to attend the Walkathon this year but on Friday
night and today, I got to hear lots of positive stories about students challenging themselves to set new
personal bests. The children were most excited about was the number of family and friends who were able
to join them for the walkathon. I truly wanted to thank those who were able to come and participate as
this is a great example of our community supporting each other. Well done one and all.
The walkathon is a wonderful event for us as it provides funds that go straight into student focused
projects. Many thanks to the sponsors who supported our students in this fundraising project. Special
thanks go to Mr. Hanson and Ms. Hales who coordinated the Walkathon this year.
Parents & Friends Group Disco
Thank you and well done once again to our enthusiastic Parents & Friends Group on another successful
Halloween disco! There was some amazing costumes and face painting and enthusiastic dancing to DJ
Slavko’s music. Thank you also to the staff who were able to attend.
Professional Learning Communities (PLC) Pilot Program
The outstanding work of our school leaders and staff on this very important pilot study for the Department
was acknowledged to Mr. McCredden and I when we presented the work being done within our school
community last Friday.
It was really pleasing to see our work and growth as a school community being recognised, as we know
how hard our staff work and see their passion, but it is always great to hear it when others also see this.
When we were invited to take on this work, it was something we were excited to do as it fitted in perfectly
with our strategic direction. One thing that has become clear to me about this project, is its focus on
building the leadership and coaching capacity of our leaders, and creating an environment where our staff
can continue to challenge and support each other to continue to improve their practice. In participating in
this work a quote springs to mind:
“If we create a culture where every teacher expects to improve. Not because they are not good enough,
but because every teacher knows that they need to get better, there is no limit to what we can achieve” -
Emeritus Professor Dylan William
This stream of thought also flowed through into our Curriculum Day yesterday. Our staff started the
morning looking at our Staff Opinion Survey which has again shown steady growth with a particular focus
on professional learning and collective efficacy. Our staff truly see themselves as learners and embrace
these learning opportunities, better preparing themselves for each day, which as a school leader, is
heartening to see. Our Curriculum Day continued with a focus on student learning data and interpreting
this to better meet student needs. We also looked at and discussed, how we can make sure our students
are more informed about what they have learnt, what they are ready to learn and how they can get there.
We want our students to be clear about their path and the work they have to do to get there.
In the middle portion of the day our leaders took the staff through some work on our professional learning
community project. Seeking feedback and input to improve this work and ensure all staff feel a part of the
process. The staff finished the day working on assessment and planning tools including proficiency
scales. I wanted to thank the staff for their continued commitment to our students, school and their
professional learning.
Clifton Springs has got Talent
The hype is starting to build about the ‘Clifton Springs has got Talent’ performance showcase with
students working as individuals and groups, to put together the performances they will share with their
classmates, family and friends. Stay tuned for more information and dates regarding the heats and dress
rehearsal coming up this month. With the lack of a Christmas festival this year, we thought we would
extend our “Final talent showcase” to an evening event so more families and friends are able to come
along and enjoy the fun. Our students will once again perform auditions in front of their peer group with
the best of these being selected to perform at the final showcase. As an interim step this year, the
students will perform a full dress rehearsal on an afternoon before the main event. In addition, this year
all students will get to perform items as part of a year level team and those students who qualified for the
final showcase will get to perform in between these acts.
All students who participate will get points for their House and we will see which House has the best
Performing Arts fire power.

In 3/4P we are learning how to summarise a story using the beginning middle and end.
We use Showbie to read the story and a graphic organiser to help us write down the important details.
HALLOWEEN DISCO
WALKATHON Our C.S.P.S Walkathon this year was again a huge success. The sausage sizzle was very
popular for lunch and the students enjoyed coming together in the ‘shared’ zone to walk
together.
A huge thank you must go out to all the families who came along and helped or
walked to make the day extra special for all the students, it was a fantastic sight to
see so many of you here. Thank you to Penny and Anna for cooking the sausages
and to the staff for your enthusiastic participation!
The winning House will be announced next week, along with how far we as a school,
walked in total.
Just to finish off can you all please make sure you have your sponsorship forms returned
by this Friday November 4th, with your prizes selected.
Thanks,
Mr. Hanson

The girls team won one game with a huge score of 202, but sadly the boys lost both their

Parents of grade 5/6 students are invited to be involved in an exciting opportunity, the Victorian Maths Challenge, to be held at Clifton Springs Primary School on
Wednesday 2nd November, 2016 from 2:00 - 3:30pm. We are looking forward to seeing you at this event.
Students in grades 5 and 6 will be involved in a series of maths challenges. The Maths
Challenges are intended to provide an enrichment opportunity for students supported by
their parents. Taking part in Victorian Maths Challenge is a great opportunity to show your
interest and share the love of learning with your child.
The Victorian Maths Challenge aims to increase confidence and engagement in mathematics
by encouraging families to explore and discuss maths concepts every day. Family participation
in learning is one of the most accurate predictors of a child’s success in school and beyond.
The Victorian Maths Challenge is a partnership between the Mathematical Association of
Victoria (MAV) and the Victorian Department of Education. The activities will assist in
building the Victorian Maths Challenge Community
We encourage you to come and join in the fun at our school as we participate in these
challenges and see what’s possible.

Getting Professional Help In a small percentage of families, the conflict between brothers and sisters is so severe that
it disrupts daily functioning, or particularly affects kids emotionally or psychologically. In
those cases, it's wise to get help from a mental health professional.
Seek help for sibling conflict if it:
is so severe that it's leading to marital problems
creates a real danger of physical harm to any family member
is damaging to the self-esteem or psychological well-being of any family member
may be related to other significant concerns, such as depression
