GENERAL NOTES: CONSTRUCTION (APPLY TO ALL CONSTRUCTION SHEETS)
1. THE MECHANICAL DRAWINGS ARE DIAGRAMMATIC AND INDICATE APPROXIMATE LOCATION OF EQUIPMENT, PIPING, AND
DUCTWORK. MINOR ADJUSTMENTS AND OFFSETS SHALL BE PROVIDED WHERE REQUIRED AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO THE
OWNER. COORDINATE CHANGES IN PIPE/DUCT ROUTING OR OTHER WORK WITH ENGINEER PRIOR TO PROCEEDING.
2. ALL WORK SHALL BE INSTALLED IN ACCORDANCE WITH MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDATIONS AND THE NORTH CAROLINA
STATE MECHANICAL CODE.
3. THE BUILDING PLANS ARE BASED ON INFORMATION PROVIDED BY THE OWNER. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL FIELD VERIFY ALL
DIMENSIONS, QUANTITIES, PIPE AND DUCT SIZES, AND CONDITIONS PRIOR TO WORK. OWNER WILL NOT APPROVE ANY CHANGE
ORDERS RESULTING FROM CONTRACTOR'S FAILURE TO FIELD VERIFY. DRAWINGS SHALL NOT BE SCALED TO DETERMINE
ACTUAL DIMENSIONS.
4. COORDINATE ALL WORK WITH GENERAL CONTRACTOR, ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR AND CONTROLS CONTRACTOR. CONDUIT,
CONTROL WIRING AND PIPING SHALL BE ROUTED TOGETHER IN CHASES.
5. PROPER FIRE WATCH TO BE MAINTAINED AT ALL TIMES DURING WELDING OR OPEN FLAME USE.
6. ALL PENETRATIONS SHOULD BE REUSED TO EXTENT POSSIBLE. PATCH NEW AND EXISTING PENETRATIONS TO MATCH
EXISTING WALL CONSTRUCTION. TREAT CORRIDORS AND THE FLOOR AS FIRE RATED, FIRE CAULK ANY PENETRATIONS IN FIRE
WALLS.
7. THE BUILDING WILL BE OCCUPIED DURING CONSTRUCTION. COORDINATE WORK SO THAT UTILITIES ARE OPERATIONAL WHEN
NEEDED IN OCCUPIED AREAS AND FACILITY OPERATIONS ARE NOT INTERRUPTED. THIS MAY REQUIRE WORK ON WEEKENDS
AND NIGHTS.
8. HANGERS MUST BE SECURED TO STRUCTURE.
9. TYPICAL OF ALL SPACE TEMPERATURE SENSORS, NO EXPOSED SURFACE WIRING IS TO BE USED UNLESS THERE IS
CONFIRMATION THE NEW WIRING CANNOT BE RUN CONCEALED. DO NOT INSTALL SENSOR WIRING UNTIL AFTER A REVIEW WITH
THE ENGINEER.
10. ANY CONTROL WIRING ROUTED ABOVE THE CEILING SHOULD BE PLENUM RATED. WIRING SHOULD BE BUNDLED AND TIED UP
HIGH ON STRUCTURE.
11. DAMPER OPERATION VERIFICATION: CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY THE OPERABILITY OF ALL EXISTING CONTROL DAMPERS BEING
CONTROLLED UNDER THIS PROJECT. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL REMOVE THE EXISTING DAMPER ACTUATOR, SPRAY LIQUID
WRENCH AT ALL ROTATING LOCATIONS AND MANUALLY MANIPULATE THE DAMPER TO CONFIRM OPERATION. NOTIFY THE
ENGINEER OF ANY ISSUES.
12. THE CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR FINDING AND ROUTING DEDICATED 120v CIRCUITS FOR THE DDC SYSTEM.
KEYED NOTES:
Existing pneumatic temperature sensor to be replaced with new DDC temperature sensor. Remove old pneumatic temperature sensor and patch/paint
wall to match existing. Route control wiring to sensor inside in the wall, using the existing pneumatic tubing, to the sensor plate at 48" AFF. Coordinate
final sensor location with Engineer. Typical.
AHU-11 in Mechanical loft above. Remove existing control valves and piping to approximately 6' from unit. Install new isolation valves, control valves w/
actuators and new run out piping to coils. Install new isolation and control valves to allow for wider unit in a future project. See Existing AHU Information
Schedule for valve Cv.
AHU suspended overhead. Remove existing control valves and piping. install new isolation valves, control valves w/ actuators and new run out piping to
coils. Install new isolation and control valves to allow for wider unit in a future project. See Existing AHU Information Schedule for valve Cv.
Provide new freezestats and damper actuators for AHU dampers. Adjust linkage as required for solid secure inner-connection. Confirm torque is
adequate for damper.
Install DDC control sensor in return air.

MECHANICAL ROOM 249 - ENLARGED FLOOR PLAN - DDC CONSTRUCTION
KEYED NOTES:
AHUs to get new control valves and isolation valves. Install isolation valves within 1 foot of the mains running down the center of the
mechanical room. Route new piping over to AHU coils. Reuse existing circuit setter. Record setting. Do not adjust circuit setter, label
associated AHU before removal. Match existing run out size. Existing unions can be reused if in good condition. 3-way valves will be
converted to 2-way except where otherwise noted.
Provide new freeze stats and damper actuators for AHU dampers. Adjust linkage as required for solid secure inner-connection.
Confirm torque is adequate for damper.
Install new DDC controllers for AHUs where shown on drawing. For AHUs 1, 2 & 4, fabricate support stands, for mounting panels,
out of 1-5/8" slotted channel. Provide post bases by channel manufacturer and secure stands to the floor. Coordinate final location
of the supports with the engineer.
Provide actuators as needed for relief damper operation.
Provide new 3-way control valves for both chilled and hot water pipes going to the gymnasium. Provide isolation valves on all sides
of new control valve. Provide a new DP sensor in the chilled water piping near the new valve per Detail 9/M500.

KEYED NOTES:
Install tower basin temperature sensor in existing well at basin outlet. Wire to fan vibration alarm switch. Route new control conduit
with piping.
Existing cooling tower VSD installed in concurrent tower project. Provide cooling tower fan speed control.
Install sensors in existing wells for condenser water supply and return near chiller. Provide control of the three-way valve to maintain
a minimum CWS temperature of 75°F.
Existing CHW pump P-9 VSD installed in concurrent tower project. Provide pump P-9 speed control based on new DP in AHU
mechanical room 249.
Pick up start/stop and alarm output of existing chiller #1. Control primary chilled water pump P-8 and building pump, and condenser
water pump to come on with the chiller.
Existing condenser water pump P-12 VSD installed in concurrent tower project. Provide start/stop and run at constant speed at Hz
to be determined at start-up.
In Base Bid provide relay that actives when system is in heating. In Alternate M2: Pick up control of each boiler start/stop. Provide
surface mounted supply temperature sensors on each boiler. Provide 2" insulation over new sensors.
In Alternate M2 pick up start/stop of all heating HW pumps to come on with the boiler(s). Boiler pump P-4, zone pumps P-3, P-5,
P-6, P-7 in this mechanical room and P-13 located in AHU mechanical room 249.
Use surface mounted temperature sensors, with 2" insulation, on common building supply and return piping. Consult with engineer
on location before installation.
In Alternate M2, install temperature sensors on DHW storage tanks and start/stop pumps P-1 & P-2 based on tank temperature.
In Alternate M3, install new three-way mixing valve for boilers. Install surface mounted temperature sensor on return water to boiler.
Valve to maintain 120°F minimum return water temperature to boilers. Valve will also be used to do hot water reset. Initial reset
schedule; 160°F @ 30°F OA and below, reset to 120°F @ 50°F OA and above.

NEEDED IN OCCUPIED AREAS AND FACILITY OPERATIONS ARE NOT INTERRUPTED. THIS MAY REQUIRE WORK ON WEEKENDS
AND NIGHTS.
8. HANGERS MUST BE SECURED TO STRUCTURE.
9. TYPICAL OF ALL SPACE TEMPERATURE SENSORS, NO EXPOSED SURFACE WIRING IS TO BE USED UNLESS THERE IS
CONFIRMATION THE NEW WIRING CANNOT BE RUN CONCEALED. DO NOT INSTALL SENSOR WIRING UNTIL AFTER A REVIEW WITH
THE ENGINEER.
10. ANY CONTROL WIRING ROUTED ABOVE THE CEILING SHOULD BE PLENUM RATED. WIRING SHOULD BE BUNDLED AND TIED UP
HIGH ON STRUCTURE.
11. DAMPER OPERATION VERIFICATION: CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY THE OPERABILITY OF ALL EXISTING CONTROL DAMPERS BEING
CONTROLLED UNDER THIS PROJECT. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL REMOVE THE EXISTING DAMPER ACTUATOR, SPRAY LIQUID
WRENCH AT ALL ROTATING LOCATIONS AND MANUALLY MANIPULATE THE DAMPER TO CONFIRM OPERATION. NOTIFY THE
ENGINEER OF ANY ISSUES.
