5/21/14 Parent Newsletter # 50
Update on Today’s Grad Practice Today’s graduation practice went well! We did find out that some Seniors do not know the
alma mater, so we sent a few home with work to learn this song . We announced the top
four graduates of the Class of 2014 who will speak at graduation. They are the following:
#1 Valedictorian Jared James Reid
#2 Salutatorian Natalie Ann Ivey
#3 Natalie Frances Colebeth Stringer
#4 Jessica Camille Smith
We gave out the following notices/items today:
Sheets to those who still owe fees;
Order cards for Creative Video (if you want to order a video of graduation);
Crafts Photography envelopes with which parents may order pictures of Seniors
receiving their diplomas at Littlejohn. If you place payment in the envelope and
send it back tomorrow with your teen, Crafts will collect them tomorrow, and you
will have officially ordered your picture, or you may drop them by Crafts after
tomorrow;
Academic Honor tassels – students who have these should wear them instead of the
regular cap tassel, unless they have an NHS tassel or an IB tassel;
National Honor Society tassels and stoles;
Coupons for Bed, Bath and Beyond (for those college dorm items);
The next practice is tomorrow at 8:15 at TLH. These practices are required to participate in
commencement. Only I can excuse a student from practices.
Hanna Grad Quintin Payton Signs
with Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Quintin Payton
Hanna graduate Quintin Payton signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after a
successfull career with North Carolina State University. In 2013, he was the Pack's
top returning receiver. In 2012, he tallied 798 receiving yards, which was the 14th-
best in school history. He was placed on the midseason `watch' list for the
Biletnikoff Award. He led the team in catches with 51 and in receiving yards with
798. He scored his first career touchdown in the win over South Alabama. He
tallied 129 yards on four receptions in the season opener, which was the highest
receiving-yards output for a Pack player since Owen Spencer's 138-yard game against
Wake Forest on November 13, 2010. Congrats, QP!

Practice SAT/ACT There will be a practice test for the June SAT/ACT test. This will give your teen a chance to go
through a mock test right before the real test. Detailed score reports will be provided to give
students an idea on what to focus on leading up to the test. Students/Parents can register by
calling 1-877-774-7737. The practice SAT will be on May 24 at TLH from 9 – 12:30 and the
practice ACT will be on May 31 from 9 – 12:30 at TLH. The cost is $25.
Varsity Boys Basketball Summer workouts for varsity boys basketball players will begin on June 2. Players should see
Coach Brown or Coach Sheridan for more details. A physical is required to participate.
Graduation Video – Correction Creative Video will also be taping the entire graduation ceremony. They will sell these videos
for $25 (previously advertised as $20). You should pre- order if you want a video. Order
forms will be given to Seniors during the first graduation practice on May 21 and at Littlejohn
the day of graduation. The cost is $25.00 per the graduation card given to seniors.
Senior Graduation Information 2014 We are looking forward to a beautiful graduation at Clemson’s Littlejohn Coliseum on May
24, and we know that you and your teens are excited as well. There are a number of points
that are key to making graduation the DIGNIFIED and happy event that Seniors deserve. Our
goal is to make this a time of respectful celebration so that everyone may have his or her
individual moment to be recognized.
Seniors must attend all three graduation practices – the roll will be checked. NO
EXCEPTIONS! If Seniors are not in attendance at each practice for the entire time, they will
NOT be allowed to take part in graduation. Mrs. Hilton is the only one who can excuse any
absences from practice. Appropriate school dress is expected, and Seniors must wear their
school IDs. No visitors are permitted at practice, including children. We will give out many
important items during practices. Seniors must have their school IDs to receive these.
Practice will last as long as necessary. It all depends on the behavior of Seniors. If we get
cooperation from the senior class, we can be finished by about 11:00 at Hanna. Another
school follows us at Littlejohn on Friday, May 23, so we must be out on time. Being tardy to
practice will just prolong the length of practice for the others. Please note that having to go to
work is not an acceptable excuse to leave practice early.
Some Seniors will have to clear obligations with various teachers before you can get your
diploma. Names of those who have outstanding fees will be called out each day of practice. If
any Senior does not clear all obligations by Tuesday, May 20 at 8:15 AM, his/her diploma will
be removed from the diploma cover and held in the office until all monies are paid. There
will be long lines at that time, so clear fees EARLY! Also, don’t forget that we have practice
on May 21 and 22 at TLH, May 23 at Littlejohn, and GRADUATION on the 24th.
Graduation ceremonies begin at 7:00 p.m. - whether or not any Senior is missing. For
graduation, all Seniors need to report to the ballroom area of the South Colonnade of
Littlejohn Coliseum NO LATER THAN 6:00! Traffic will be very congested, so Seniors need to
plan to ARRIVE EARLY. They should be sure to bring caps, gowns, and tassels. Seniors must
be dressed appropriately for graduation. Anyone dressed inappropriately will not be allowed
to march. Those not allowed to march have to pick up their diplomas at the school on
Monday, May 26.
Appropriate dress is:
Men – dark trousers (navy or black) ABSOLUTELY NO JEANS; dark dress shoes, dark socks,
white shirts, dark necktie or bowtie, cap, gown, tassel
Women – black dresses or black dress pants and black blouse, black low-heeled shoes, cap,
gown, and tassel. Absolutely no flip-flops of any kind!
As we will practice, graduates will enter through the tunnel on the floor of the Coliseum in
two lines. Seniors should remember that if they are in the right line, they will line up in
regular numerical order (lowest to highest, i.e. 1-15) for each row. If they are in the LEFT
LINE, they should line up HIGHEST TO LOWEST (i.e. 30-16) for each row before they enter.
At the end of the ceremony, Junior Marshals will lead you out, starting with the first row, just
as they did at the Awards Night.
***It is imperative to let family and friends know that it is our desire that the graduation
ceremony be one that is dignified and appropriate as we honor our Seniors. We respectfully
request that those who are invited to this ceremony refrain from outbursts, use of
noisemakers, and any other activities that may disrupt the ceremony. Applause is the only
acceptable acknowledgement of our graduates. Each year, we have individuals and sometime
entire families removed by law enforcement because of the disruptive celebrations that take
place. We will have officers in place to handle unruly guests.
Crafts Photography will be taking photographs of those who purchase the service ahead of
time. Flyers will be given out at practice if parents want to purchase pictures of their teens
receiving a diploma.
Creative Video will also be taping the entire graduation ceremony. They will sell these videos
for $20. You should pre-order if you want a video. Order forms will be given to Seniors
during the first graduation practice and at Littlejohn the day of graduation.
