Founded in 1963, the University of East Anglia is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. To mark the occasion, we’ll be throwing our doors open to the community and hosting an Anniversary Festival. We’ll be welcoming past and present staff and students and the local community on to campus Saturday 28 Sept to enjoy workshops, lectures, music, comedy, drama and activities for all ages. The day will be topped off by a gig in the evening. Campus will be divided into a number of ‘zones’, including:
Inspiring IdeasHear experts discuss the grand challenges facing society today (climate change, global security, the role of the media, cancer and ageing) and learn how UEA is contributing to the debate.
Hands On ActivitiesHandle a molecule in the biology labs, compose a piece of music and have it played live in the Music Centre, write your first best-seller in a creative writing workshop, or learn how to sell yourself to the world in the Business School’s branding workshop.
Fringe FestivalThe UEA Drama Studio will host a Fringe Festival throughout the weekend’s celebrations. An exciting programme of short plays, stand-up comedy, poetry and live literature events will be on offer. Performers will include a mix of celebrated alumni and current students, including student company Minotaur Theatre.
Alumni ZoneWe’re really hoping that many of our alumni, some of whom have dispersed to the far corners of the globe, will make the trip back to campus to celebrate with us. Previous students will have the chance to call in at the alumni zone for nostalgia, somewhere to meet friends and a chance to relax.
Family Big TopOur little-big-top for kids will be packed with fun activities to keep the little ones busy all day. Rounding off the afternoon will be a spectacular volcanic eruption by the Broad, led by Dr Jenni Barclay of the School of Environmental Sciences.
