FOREWORD
This prospectus is published for the new entrants to the Faculty of Business Studies and
Finance, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka. It provides undergraduates with information on
the academic programme for first two years, Degree programs offered by faculty, examination
procedures, scholarships and awards, and facilities and services available in the Faculty of
Business Studies and Finance.
Undergraduates are advised to read this prospectus carefully and contact relevant officers and
authorities in the Faculty of Business Studies and Finance for further information if needed.
Information on academic staff members included in this prospectus is as at 01st October 2018.

MESSAGE FROM THE VICE CHANCELLOR
I am pleased to release this message for the first issue of the
Prospectus by the Faculty of Business Studies and Finance,
Wayamba University of Sri Lanka. The Faculty of Business
Studies and Finance is one of the leading Faculties at the
Wayamba University of Sri Lanka. This Faculty has
successfully survived many challenges along the way and it
is now in a position to compete with other reputed
Universities in Sri Lanka.
It is noteworthy that the Faculty of Business Studies and
Finance has introduced new degree programmes to meet the
requirements of the country, while maintaining the high standards of the existing degree
programmes. The academic and non-academic staff members, as well as the students, have
worked collectively to bring credit and significant achievements to the faculty.
The Faculty of Business Studies and Finance is on the way to achieving its vision to be a Center
of excellence in the Business Studies and Finance education in Sri Lanka, progressing well
through innovative programs, high quality graduate and personal repute.
The world is changing rapidly creating new opportunities and challenges for the Universities.
In this emerging scenario, the Faculty of Business Studies and Finance has chosen the way
forward towards continuous improvement and innovation. Further, the Faculty shall adopt an
integrated, holistic approach focusing on value enhancement, which forms the cornerstone of
success in today’s increasingly complex and competitive environment.
I wish the Faculty of Business Studies and Finance all success in its efforts to become a Center
of excellence in the Business Studies and Finance education in Sri Lanka.

STUDIES & FINANCE
As the Dean of the Faculty, let me first welcome you to the Faculty
of Business studies & Finance, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka.
As a fast growing faculty, we produce quality employable graduates
by offering quality Degree programmes with Postgraduate and
Diploma programmes. Today, the business sector is flourishing in
our country and requires more employees and professionals to meet
the demand. Having identified expected qualities and competencies
required for the business sector with keen focusing on nature and trends in that sector FBSF
designed its internal and external programmes to cope up with the challenge.
With its highly qualified academic staff, the Faculty of Business Studies and Finance is
committed to high quality teaching and research promoting an intellectually stimulating
multidisciplinary environment. It also strives to impart with specialized knowledge, skills and
the required practical training in order face for the future challenges in both academic and
professional contexts. Further, the Faculty of Business Studies and Finance offers a variety of
opportunities to gain certain valuable and unique experiences in life, to enhance personal
qualities and to become a committed and a responsible citizen of this country.
Presently, the Faculty of Business Studies and Finance, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka uses
various strategies to improve socio-emotional skills which are very essential for improving
employability of the students. Similarly, the continuous assessment of the teaching and learning
process reflects the faculty’s desire to prepare students for the labour market.
I hope that students will make use of the facilities and opportunities provided by the faculty to
become outstanding professionals to serve the country and outside.

WAYAMBA UNIVERSITY OF SRI LANKA
Founded in 1999, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka (WUSL) is the thirteenth state sector
university in Sri Lanka and is one of the latest and modern learning and research institutions in
Sri Lanka. The main administrative buildings and four Faculties are located at Kuliyapitiya
(Faculty of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Business Studies & Finance, Faculty of Medicine and
Faculty of Technology), while the other two Faculties are located at Makandura (Faculty of
Agriculture & Plantation Management and Faculty of Livestock, Fisheries & Nutrition).The
degree programmes offered at Wayamba University are different from others as it offers
students much more than a mere educational qualification. Curricular of the University aims at
providing students a total holistic approach to one of a kind educational experience that enables
them to achieve career goals along with creativity and innovativeness. The graduates are
expected be employable individuals as well as valuable citizens who will be of benefit to the
society. The high practical content and opportunities for in-plant/industrial training are
characteristic features of our undergraduate study programmes which results in a good record
of graduate employment. The University has established links with national and regional
industries, business establishments, research institutes and government and non-government
organizations.

FACULTY OF BUSINESS STUDIES AND FINANCE
FBSF was established on 01st October 1999 by the Government Notification in the
Extraordinary Gazette No.1093/8 of Tuesday, 17 August 1999 and remains as the fastest
growing faculty of the Wayamba University of Sri Lanka.
The faculty is located at Kuliyapitiya premises of the Wayamba University and consists of five
departments of studies, namely,
1. Department of Accountancy and Finance
2. Department of Banking and Finance
3. Department of Business Management
4. Department of Insurance and Valuation.
5. Department of English Language Teaching
The FBSF is committed to pursue excellence in teaching courses in the field of Business
Studies and Finance disciplines, conducting management researches and community services
in the region while making all efforts to be the center of excellence for Business Studies and
Finance education in Sri Lanka. In line with this objective faculty manages to offer degrees in
the discipline of Business Studies and Finance. Presently over 2000 undergraduate and
postgraduate students are studying in the faculty.
There is a good blend of human competencies available in the faculty and it is geared to practice
modern teaching and learning techniques at all times. The faculty owns a well-equipped

computer laboratory in its own. Majority of faculty’s lecture rooms are provided with fixed
multimedia facilities in a way that helps teachers and students to incorporate modern
technology in to the learning environment

Faculty Symposiums
• Annual Research Symposium in Management (ARSYM)
Annual research symposium in management (ARSYM) is organized by the Faculty of
Business Studies and Finance, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka under the theme of
‘Reaching unreached through innovative research in management’. Doing research is
essential to ensure sustainable development as it is transformational and essence of
benefits pass to the society.
Therefore, developing research culture in universities is the paramount important and
this symposium will provide an opportunity to promote research culture among the
undergraduate and postgraduate students in the faculty. Accordingly, the aim of the
ARSYM is to provide a platform to share the research thoughts and findings of
undergraduate and postgraduate researches not only in the Wayamba University, but
also in other national Universities in Sri Lanka.

OFFICES AND STUDENT SERVICE UNITS OF THE

Learning Resource System
The Faculty is moderately equipped with appropriate learning resources system, which is
essential in providing quality education in the 21st century. Following facilities are provided to
ensure an enhanced teaching-learning environment.
i University Library Facilities
The Library of the Wayamba University of Sri Lanka consists of two Libraries. One is
serving for Faculty of Applied Sciences and Faculty of Business Studies & Finance at
Kuliyapitiya premises and the other Library is serving for Faculty of Agriculture and
Plantation Management and Faculty of Livestock, Fisheries & Nutrition at Makandura
Premises. Total Number of book stock as at 31.12.2016 was 39,087.
ii The Department of Physical Education
The Physical Education Unit focuses on developing the sports skills of undergraduates
through standard and methodical physical education and training programmes and
recreational activities. Training in sports/games is undertaken by the unit for undergraduates
to take part in inter-university, national and international level. Physical Education Unit
considers that the high standards of health and fitness in both students and staff lead to an
active cooperation in working environment and a healthier, happier and safer community.

The main unit is located at Kuliyapitiya Premises and the sub unit is sited in Makandura
Premises.
iii Computer Laboratory Facilities
Information Communication Technology (ICT) Center is the primary provider of computing
and information technology resources, services, and support to Kuliyapitiya Premises of
Wayamba University of Sri Lanka. It provides IT training programs for students, staff, and
external professionals to improve demanding IT skills. It is committed to the support of
academic activities by promoting on-campus information literacy, and by providing a
suitable information technology environment.
iv Learning Management Systems (LMS)
FBSF is implementing Learning Management System (LMS) for it’s all the subjects. A
close interaction was build up with the students through the system. Modern teaching
approaches like online tests, assignment submission, posting common notices, uploading
latest materials & handouts were carried out through the system.

STUDENT SUPPORT SYSTEM & MANAGEMENT
The following student support services & amenities provided for the well-being of students
during their undergraduate time period. The descriptions about the services and amenities are
as follows.
i. Accommodation Facilities
Total Male and Female students in the University in the year 2016 were 1218 and
2006 respectively. Among them 620 male students and 1350 female students were
given the University hostels as at 31.12.2016. Generally the University provides
hostel facilities for first and final year students considering the distance from the
residence.
ii. Canteen Facilities
University is currently having four (04) canteens. Out of that two (02) were located
at Kuliyapitiya Premises and the rest were established at Makandura premises.
Further to that, staff Canteen was established at the University Administration
complex.

Career Guidance Unit
The Career Guidance Unit (CGU) of the Wayamba University of Sri Lanka was
established on January, 2003 through the initiative of the University grant
Commission (UGC), Sri Lanka with the objectives of enhancing the quality of
university students‟ professional skills and soft skills, whilst strengthening the link
between university students and the corporate sector. Since the establishment, CGU
has been organizing events, facilitating this purpose and the unit is functioning
directly under the Vice-chancellor. CGU strives to provide a well-balanced variety
of direct services, educational programs, and resource materials.

iv. Sports Facilities
Physical Education Unit is the key provider and the promoter of the best possible
sports and recreation environment for the University Community. It considers that
the high standards of health and fitness in both students and staff lead to an active
cooperation in working environment and a healthier, happier and safer community.
The main unit is located at Kuliyapitiya Premises and the sub unit is sited in
Makandura Premises.
v.
Banking Facilities
A unit of the Bank of Ceylon was established to facilitate the student banking needs.
With the immense demand, recently the unit was converted to the branch and now
named as “BOC Wayamba University branch”
vi. Capital Market Information Center
A center for Capital Market Information was established within the Faculty with the
purpose of facilitating the students with the information for the capital markets for the
research studies and other academic works

vii. Student Counseling and Mentoring Service
FBSF has an improved counseling and mentoring process. Senior Student Counselor,
Student Counselors and Mentors are duly appointed and TORs has been prepared.
Students are advised to maintain regular contacts with the Student Counselors and the
Mentors to avail of the counseling service provided by the Faculty.
viii. Business Incubation Center
An incubator and technology transfer center has been established at Makandura
together with the National Enterprise Development Authority. This will facilitate
start-ups to obtain basic facilities and business ideas.
ix. Student-Staff Liaison Committee
This committee consists of student representatives and number of faculty
members. It goal is to facilitate a continues dialogue between students and the
faculty on student needs and issues. The Dean of the faculty is the chairperson
of this committee. Students are encouraged to report any matter requiring urgent
attention to this committee.
x. Personal Tutors
All first year students are grouped and each group is assigned a personal tutor as
a mentor. The mentor is a member of the academic staff of the Faculty of
Business Studies and Finance. Students should meet their personal tutors
regularly and are encouraged to bring the notice of their mentors any personal
matters they wish to discuss.
xi Quality Assurance Cell (QAC) of the Faculty of Business Studies
and Finance
The QAC of the Faculty was established in 2017as per the requirements
stipulated by the Quality Assurance and Accreditation Centre (QAAC) of the
UGC. Accordingly the QAC functions under the purview of the Internal Quality
Assurance Unit (IQAU) of the Wayamba University of Sri Lanka. A main
responsibility of the QAC is to promote quality enhancement activities within
the Faculty liaising with Curriculum Development Committee and other Faculty

committees. The QAC functions under the guidance of the IQAU to ensure the
successful implementation of policies and activities proposed by the QAAC in
order to improve quality of the programs offered by the Faculty of Business
Studies and Finance.
The QAC comprises the Dean, Assistant Registrar of the Faculty, All Heads of
the Departments, Faculty representative of IQAU of WUSL, and All Department
representatives.

EXAMINATION BY LAWS OFFENCES AND PUNISHMENTS
Regulations made by the Senate of the Wayamba University of Sri Lanka under section 136
read with Sections 29,45 ,and 46 of the Universities Act No. 16 of 1978 as amended by the
Universities (Amendment) Act No.7 of 1985.
Regulations
These regulations may be cited as the Examination Procedure, Offences & Punishment
Regulation No 01 of 2013, effective from 28.02.2013
Part I
Examination Procedures
Item
1.1 A candidate is expected to be outside the Examination Hall at least 15 minutes before
the commencement of each paper, but shall not enter the Hall until he/she is requested
to do so by the Supervisor.
1.2 On admission to the hall a candidate shall occupy the seat allocated to him/her and shall
not change it except on the specific instructions of the Supervisor.
1.3 Candidate shall not be admitted to the Examination Hall after the expiry of 20 minutes
from the commencement of the Examination in the case of one to three hours’ duration.
If an MCQ paper is included in the evaluation, candidates shall not be admitted after the
expiry of 10 minutes of the commencement of the Examination. A candidate shall not
be allowed to leave the hall until the Examination is over and the papers are collected
and counted.
Under exceptional circumstances, the Supervisor in consultation with the Vice
Chancellor/ Registrar or Dean of the Faculty concerned may use his discretion in the
enforcement of item no.1.3.
1.4 A candidate shall have his/her student record book/student identity card and the
admission card with him/her in the examination hall on every occasion he/she presents
himself/herself for a paper. His/her candidature is liable to be cancelled if he/she does
not produce the student record book/student identity card and admission card when
requested to do so. If he/she fails to bring his/her student record book/student identity
card and the admission card he/she shall sign a declaration in the form provided for it,
in respect of the paper for which he/she had not produced the student record book/student
identity card or admission card acknowledging that he/she has been permitted to sit the

paper conditionally until the matter is resolved, and produce the student record
book/student identity card and/or admission card on the next occasion when he/she
appears for the examination. If it is the last paper or the only paper he/she is sitting,
he/she shall produce the student record book/ student identity card to the Registrar or
the relevant Senior Asst. Registrar/ Asst. Registrar within the next three working days.
If a candidate loses his/her student record book/student identity or admission card during
the examination period, he/she shall obtain a duplicate of student record book/student
identity card/admission card as the case may be from the Registrar or relevant Senior
Asst. Registrar/ Asst Registrar for production at the Examination Hall.
1.5 A candidate shall not have on his/her person or in his/her clothes or on the admission
card, time table, students record book/student identity card, any notes sings or formulae
etc. Books, notes, parcels, handbags, hand phones and electronic devices etc. which are
not permitted which a candidate has brought with him/her should be kept at a
place a candidate has brought with him/her should be kept at a place identified
by the Supervisor/Invigilator.
1.6 A candidate may be requested by the Supervisor to declare any item in his/her possession
or person.
1.7 No candidate shall copy or attempt to copy from any book or paper or notes or similar
material or from the scripts of another candidate. A candidate shall neither help another
candidate nor obtain help from another candidate or any other person. A candidate shall
not conduct himself/herself so negligently that an-opportunity is given to any other
candidate to read anything written by him/her or to watch any practical examination
performed by him/her. No candidate shall use any other unfair means or obtain or
render improper assistance at the examination.
1.8 If any candidate was found to have copied from another candidate by an examiner at the
time of marking, he/she would be treated as having committed a punishable offence.
1.9 No candidate shall submit a practical book or field book or dissertation /thesis or project
study or answer script which has been prepared wholly or partly by anyone other
than the candidate himself/herself.
1.10 A candidate shall bring his/her own pens, ink, mathematical instruments, erasers,
pencils, or any other approved equipment or stationary which he/she has been
instructed to bring. The use of a calculator (authorized types only) will be permitted only
for papers that contain a rubric to that effect.
1.11 Examination stationary (i.e. writing paper, graph paper, drawing paper, ledger paper,
précis paper etc.) will be supplied at the Examination Hall as and when necessary. No
sheet of paper or answer book supplied to a candidate may be torn, crumpled, folded or
otherwise mutilated. No papers other than those supplied to him/her by the Supervisor/

Invigilator shall be used by candidates. All material supplied, whether used or unused,
including rough work, shall not be removed from the Examination hall.
1.12 Every candidate shall enter his/her Index Number on each answer book and on every
continuation paper. He/she shall also enter all necessary particulars as required. A
candidate who inserts on script an Index Number other than his/her own is liable to be
considered as having attempted to cheat.
A script that bears no Index Number or has an Index Number which cannot be identified
is liable to be rejected. No candidate shall write his/her name or any other identifying
mark on the answer script.
1.13 All calculations and rough work shall be done only on paper supplied for the examination,
and shall be cancelled and attached to the answer script. Such work should not be done
on any other material. Any candidate who disregards these instructions runs the risk
of being considered as having written notes or outline of answers with the intention
of copying.
1.14 Any answer or part of an answer which is not to be considered for the purpose of
assessment shall be neatly crossed out. If the same question has been attempted in more
than one place the answer or answers that arc not to be considered shall be neatly crossed
out.
1.15 Candidates are under the authority of the supervisor and shall assist him/her by carrying
out his/her instructions and those of the Invigilators during the examination and
immediately before and after it.
1.16 Every candidate shall conduct himself/herself in the Examination Hall and its precincts
as not to cause disturbance or inconveniences to the Supervisor or his staff or to other
candidates. In entering and leaving the hall, he/she shall conduct himself/herself as
quietly as possible. A candidate is liable to be excluded from the Examination hall
for disorderly conduct.
1.17 Candidates shall stop answering & keep answer scripts ready to be collected promptly
when ordered by the Supervisor/Invigilator to do so. All calculations and rough work
shall be done only on paper supplied for the examination, and shall be cancelled and
attached to the answer script. Such work should not be done on any other material. Any
candidate who disregards these instructions runs the risk of being considered as
having written notes or outline of answers with the intention of copying.
1.18 Absolute silence shall be maintained in the Examination Hall and its precincts. A
candidate is not permitted for any reason whatsoever to communicate or to have
any dealings with any person other than the Supervisor/ Invigilator. The attention of the
Supervisor/Invigilator shall be drawn by the candidate by raising his/her hand from
where he/she is seated.

1.19 During the course of answering no candidate shall be permitted to leave the Examination
Hall temporarily. In case of an emergency, the Supervisor/ Invigilator may grant him/her
permission to do so but the candidate will be under his/her surveillance.
1.20 No person shall impersonate a candidate at the examination nor shall any candidate allow
himself/herself to be impersonated by another person.
1.21 Any candidate receiving unauthorized assistance from any person shall be deemed to
have committed an examination offence.
1.22 If circumstances arise which in the opinion of the Supervisor render the cancellation or
postponement of the examination necessary, he/she shall stop the examination, collect
the scripts already written and then report the matter as soon as possible to the Vice
Chancellor/Registrar.
1.23 The Supervisor is empowered to obtain from any candidate a statement in writing on any
matter which may have arisen during the course of the examination and such statement
shall be signed by the candidate. No candidate shall refuse to make such a statement or
to sign it. If such a candidate refuses to make such a statement or refuse to sign it, the
Supervisor shall make his own statement and report the matter to the Vice-Chancellor/
Registrar.
1.24 No candidate shall contact any person other than the Vice Chancellor, Dean, and Head of
the Department, the Registrar or the relevant Senior Asst. Registrar /Asst. Registrar
regarding any matter concerning the examination.
1.25 Every candidate shall hand over the answer script personally to the
Supervisor/Invigilator, or remain in his/her seat until it is collected. On no account shall
a candidate hand over his/her answer script to an attendant, a minor employee or another
candidate.
1.26 Every candidate who registers for an examination shall be deemed to have sat the
examination unless he/she withdraws from the examination before the commencement of
the examination. In case of sickness he/she should submit a medical certificate in support
of his/her absence, prior to the commencement of the examination. If such a
document cannot be submitted before the commencement of the examination, a candidate
shall inform of his/her inability to attend the examination to the Dean of the Faculty
within a week after the commencement of the examination. The medical certificate shall
conform to the Senate Regulations.
1.27 When a candidate is unable to present himself/herself for any part/section of an
examination, he/she shall notify or cause to be notified this fact to the Dean of the Faculty
and relevant Senior Asst. Registrar or Asst. Registrar immediately. This should be
confirmed in writing with supporting documents by registered post within two weeks.

1.28 A student who does not maintain an attendance of not less than 80% of a given Semester
for both Lectures/ Practical and not fulfills other requirements specified by the relevant
Faculty are not eligible to sit the particular examination paper.
1.29 No student shall sit an examination, if he/she has exhausted the number of attempts that
he/she is allowed to sit that particular examination, unless he/she has been granted special
permission to do so by the Senate.
1.30 The other matters and issues related to examinations which do not cover by the by-laws
will be decided by the Senate.
Procedure approved by the senate of the Wayamba University of Sri Lanka for the
acceptance of medical certificates submitted by students for absence from course work
and examinations.
(1) Students are requested to support the absence from Course Work or Examination due to
illness by a valid Medical Certificate conforming to the format of a Medical Certificate
issued by a Government Hospital. Such Medical Certificates should be obtained from
the following persons :
University Medical Officer
(UMO) District Medical
Officer
Consultant Specialist in the particular
field Head of a Government Base
Hospital
Medical superintendent of a Provincial Ayurvedic Government
Hospital Ayurvedic Physician registered in the Ayurvedic Medical
Council
Under exceptional circumstances Medical Certificates issued by Private Hospitals or
registered private practitioners could be considered by the University Medical Officer
or Medical Board.
(2) Students who fall ill during sessions or examination time should contact the University
Medical Officer at the University Health Center immediately. If a student falls sick at
home or elsewhere during sessions or examination time he/she or his/her guardian
should inform the Dean of the respective Faculty (immediately) followed by a letter
indicating the nature of the illness and the name of the attending doctor etc. Within seven
(7) days Medical Certificate supporting the illness of the student also should be sent to
the Dean.

Under exceptional circumstances if a student was not able to meet the dead line
mentioned above, he/she could send his/her appeal to the Senate.
Part II
Examination Offences and Punishments
2.1 Any candidate who violates item 1.5 of Examination Procedure shall be deemed guilty of
the offence of possession of unauthorized documents and his/her candidature for that
examination shall be cancelled and he/she shall be prohibited from sitting any examination
of this University for a period varying from 1 to 3 academic years.
2.2 Any candidate who violates item 1.7 or 1.8 of Examination Procedure shall be deemed
guilty of the offence of copying and therefore his/her candidature shall be cancelled from
that examination and he/she shall be prohibited from sitting any examination of this
University for a period from 2 to3 academic years.
2.3 Any candidate who violates item 1.9 of Examination Procedure shall be deemed guilty of
the offence of having cheated at the examination and his/her candidature for that
examination shall be cancelled and to be prohibited from sitting any examination of this
University for a period varying from 2 to 3 academic years.
2.4 Any candidate who is detected removing examination stationary and other material
provided for the examination (item 1.11) shall be deemed guilty of an examination
offence and his/her candidature for that examination shall be cancelled and he/she shall
be liable to be prohibited from sitting any examination of this University for a period up to
two academic years.
2.5 Any candidate who violates any one or more of the item in 1.6, 1.15, 1.16,1.17,1.18 and
1.19 shall be deemed guilty of the offences of disorderly conduct and his/her
candidature shall be cancelled from that examination and he/she shall be prohibited from
sitting any examination of this University for a period up to two academic years.
2.6 Any candidate who violates item 1.20 shall be guilty of the offence of impersonation and
his/her candidature for that examination shall be cancelled and he/she shall be prohibited
from sitting any examination of this University. Impersonator/s may also be liable to any
punishment under the Penal Code/ Criminal Law. In the event the impersonator is found to
be a graduate of this University, his/her degree shall be withdrawn.
2.7 Any candidate who violates item 1.21 shall be guilty of an examination offence and his/her
candidature for that examination shall be cancelled and he/she shall be prohibited from
sitting any examination of this University for a period of 1 to 3 academic years.
2.8 Any candidate found aiding and abetting in the commission of any of the above
examination offences shall be deemed to have committed that Aiding and offence and shall
be punished in respect of the offence in accordance, Abetting with the provisions of the
relevant section.

2.9 Any other offence which is not covered in the above section alleged to have been committed by a candidate and reported to the relevant authority by a Supervisor or Examiner shall be
inquired into and final decision will be taken by the Senate. 2.10 Students found guilty of offences will not be eligible for classes and Medals/ Awards.
Part III
Provision for re-scrutinizing of marks and grades of undergraduates
3.1 Policy Guidelines
3.1.1 All marks and grades obtained by a student at any examination (i.e. in-course
assessment, assignment, semester examination, Final examination, etc.) must be free of
any errors of addition, computation and transcription.
3.1.2 Provisions shall be made for undergraduate students to submit request for verification
of their examination marks and grades, if they wish to do so, particularly for the end-
semester examinations and final Examinations.
3.1.3 However, the examiners’ discretion to allocate marks for the answers presented in the
answer scripts for the question(s) presented in the question paper, based on the pre-
determined criteria and/or model answer expected shall not to be undermined and hence
the verification process will be limited only to check for accuracy of addition,
computation and transcription (ACT Verification) and not for re-marking of scripts.
3.1.4 The provision for requesting re–scrutinizing of marks and grades shall be limited only
during the 2 weeks immediately following the release of results of an examination. As
the cost of re–scrutinizing process must be borne by the student, a non-refundable fee,
calculated on the basis of actual cost of re-scrutiny process shall be levied on the
student.
3.1.5 The Dean of the Faculty in consultation with the Chief examiner of the examination
shall convene Results Verification Board, constituted as prescribed by these by-laws
and verification of results must be conducted in accordance with the guidelines
prescribed herein.
3.1.6 If the marks and grades are not changed, the candidate shall be notified by the Dean
through SAR / AR of the Faculty after the meeting of the Results Verification Board.
However, if the marks and grades are changed, the outcome of the verification shall be
notified to the candidate (s) only after the ratification of results by the Special Result
Board of the Faculty in the case of end-semester examination. Whereas in the case of
Final Examination, amended results should only be released after obtaining the
approval of the Senate and Council of the University.
3.1.7 The results issued to the students (s) following the re–scrutiny of marks and grades shall
be the final and no more requests shall be entertained thereafter.

3.2 Procedures
3.2.1 SAR / AR of the Faculty should notify the students of the relevant examination the period during which the requests for verification of results are entertained by displaying a notice in the Notice Board of the Deans’ Office.
3.2.2 A payment of Rs. 500/= (subject to revision) per course / subject of an end – semester
examination shall be charged for verification of the marks and grades and the issue of application forms (Annexure 1) must be done only upon submission of receipt for the
prescribed payment.
3.2.3 The Dean shall convene the Results Verification Board meeting for verification of marks/grade within 3 working days upon closure of the applications.
3.2.4 The Results Verification Board shall consist of the following persons:
1. Dean of the faculty (convener)
2. Head of Department(s)
3. Chief Examiner (if applicable)
4. Examiners in-charge of each subject / paper When the Head is a Chief Examiner / Examiner in charge of each examination / subject / paper, another member from the same Department can be called for the Results Verification Board.
3.2.5 The Head of Department in-charge of the relevant course(s) / subject(s) shall present
the individual marks / grades sheets for different components of the examination(s) (i.e.
written, oral, laboratory, continues assessment, etc.) and the answer scripts for scrutiny of the Results Verification Board.
3.2.6 The Results Verification Board should proceed to check the accuracy of addition,
computation and transcription of results (ACT Verification).
3.2.7 If the number of applications received is too large the Dean of the Faculty in consultation with the Chief Examiner can appoint relevant Sub-Committees for
verification of marks and grades. In such instances verified results should be tabled at the Results Verification Board for ratification.
3.2.8 If there is no change of grades, the Dean of the Faculty through the SAR / AR of the
Faculty should inform the candidate(s) soon after the Results Verification Board meeting.
3.2.9 A Special Results Board should be held within five working days to ratify the results if
a revision of marks / grades is necessary and the decision of the Special Results Board shall be the final.
3.2.10 If the marks and grades are changed, in the case of end-semester examination the
outcome of the verification shall be notified to the candidate(s) following the
ratification of amended results by the Special Result Board of the Faculty whereas in the case of final examination, amended results ratified by the Special Results Board
further be approved by the Senate and Council of the University before it is released to the candidate(s).

3.2.11 SAR / AR of the Faculty should maintain a record of all verification applications and the outcome of all applications and should submit a report to the Faculty Board after completion of re-scrutiny process.

DOA is established under FBSF and offers B.Sc. (Special) Degree in Accountancy and Business
Finance. This is a four years duration programme conducted in English medium and the objective
of the B.Sc. (Special) Degree in Accountancy and Business Finance is to offer with the students a
sound academic and professional background in Accountancy and Business Finance enabling them
to develop productive use of resources and control in Sri Lanka and elsewhere in the world. It
concentrates on producing outstanding graduates who are employable in the public and private

B. Sc. (Special) Degree in Accountancy and Business Finance
The DOA offers B.Sc. (Special) Degree in Accountancy and Business Finance. This course
extensively covers key aspects of Accountancy and Finance, and produces approximately 150
graduates each year. The objectives of the B.Sc. (Special) Degree in Accountancy and Business
Finance is to offer the students a sound academic and professional background in Accountancy
and Finance enabling them to develop productive business organizations and management
disciplines in Sri Lanka and elsewhere in the world. It would also concentrate on producing
outstanding graduates for public and private sectors.
With effect from a March 2018, a new curriculum has been introduced and the students have the

Internship Programme
One year internship programme is a major part of the B.Sc. Accountancy and Business Finance
(Special) Degree offered by the Department of Accountancy, Faculty of Business Studies &
Finance, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka. The Internship offers total of six credits; which consist
of two credits for the training and four credits for the dissertation. This internship intends to expose

the students to the corporate environment so that the undergraduates will be able to understand the
interdisciplinary nature of the theoretical and practical applicability of underpinnings of the
business organizations. Undergraduates will be placed in selected business organizations enabling
students to integrate and apply the theoretical knowledge, skills, capabilities and values acquired
through their course work in first 3 years. The internship also provides undergraduates with
opportunities for reflective learning in practical setting and to develop competencies in work skills.
Also it will help the undergraduates to develop career opportunities as the students those who
perform well may be absorbed to the permanent cadre of the relevant organization.
External Programs Offered By the Department Of Accountancy
i. Certificate in Personal Financial Management (CPFM)
The DOA offers a Certificate in Personal Financial Management (CPFM) programme for the
Wealth Planners and Wealth Planners’ Managers of AIA Insurance Lanka PLC. This course has
been designed with the aim of providing ample of possibilities of exploring new knowledge in the
areas of Personal Financial Management, Personal Taxation, Risk Management, Time Value of
Money, and Investment & Retirement Planning; which are more relevant to the Insurance
industry.
The duration of the CPFM is six (06) months. This programme is a part-time taught programme
with a total duration of 252 contact hours (consisting of 234 hours of teaching and 18 hours of
examination).
ii. Diploma in Personal Financial Management (DPFM)
The Diploma in Personal Finance Management (DPFM) gives candidates a technical knowledge
and a broad understanding of household financial management, and prepare them to work with
individuals and families in a wide range of financial service occupations, from insurance,
investments, or banking to financial counseling, education, or a social change occupation. This
course is designed with the aim of providing knowledge in the areas of Financial Management,
Financial Analysis, Principles of Management, Business Economics, Project Management,
Business Law, and Seminar – Professional & Personal Development.

The duration of the DPFM is one (01) academic year. This programme is a part-time taught
programme with a total duration of 252 contact hours (consisting of 234 hours of teaching and 18

iii. Higher Diploma in Personal Financial Management (HDPFM)
The Higher Diploma in Personal Financial Management (HDPFM) programme is designed in
accordance with the requirements under the level 3 and 4 of Sri Lanka Qualification Framework
(SLQF) introduced by the University Grants Commission. The HDPFM develops core technical
knowledge and understanding across a broad range of key advisory areas of Entrepreneurship,
Business Accounting, Basic Mathematics, Business Communication, Financial Markets, Cost
Accounting, Customer Relationship Management, and Current Economic Trends.
The duration of DPFM is one (01) academic year consisting of two semesters. This programme is
a part-time taught programme with a total duration of 450 contact hours (consisting of 216 hours
of teaching and 936 hours for self-studies).

offering a degree for Banking and Finance in Sri Lanka, it offers the undergraduates with subjects
to mold a successful professional in the global context. B.Sc. (Special) Degree in Banking &
Finance is a four year duration programme conducted in English medium offered with the
objective of providing a sound academic & professional background in Banking & Finance
enabling the graduates to become innovative financiers. During the first two years of the degree
program the students will follow course modules which related to the core subjects of
Management, Accountancy and Economics which will provide them theoretical knowledge, which
are conducted commonly to the FBSF. From the third year onwards the students will study subjects

Industrial Training
Students are required to undergo a six-month internship training programme. The Department of
Banking & Finance has developed links with private and public sector Banking and Financial
sector institutions to provide internship opportunities to final year students. Students have to
prepare a comprehensive report on their training and provide it to the department with the
certification of their internal and external industrial training supervisors.
Additional Courses offered by Department for Undergraduates
Certificate Course in English for Career (CCEC)
3rd Year students of Department of Banking and Finance can apply for the Certificate course
in English for Career (CCEC) offered by the Department. The duration of the course is one
academic year. Main objective of the programme is to improve communication and
presentation skills needed for future and current working requirements of an undergraduate
Scientific Writing & Data Analysis (SWDA)
This is a three day programme offered by the BNF for the 4th Year undergraduates of the
department. The objective of this programme is to enhance and improve the statistical analysis
ability of 4th Year undergraduates that must be needed for their research project requirement.
This programme mainly covers the techniques of Satirical Package for the Social Science
(SPSS) which is used as the computer software package for data analysis.
External Programs offered by Department
Diploma in Banking and Financial Studies (DBFS)
Duration of this programme is confined to one academic year and the examinations shall be held
at end of first and second semester-ends. The number of credits to be offered is 30 credits.
Diploma programme in Banking and Financial Studies prepare prospective candidates for a career
in Banking industry and Services. The main objective of the programme is to improve the
knowledge, skills and attitudes of Banking staff and those who would planning to join banking
industry as junior and senior Executives.

01. Higher Diploma in Banking and Financial Studies
The second step of the Diploma in Banking and Financial Studies is the Higher Diploma in
Banking and Financial Studies (EDBFS) programme. This is specially designed to improve the
skills and competencies of professionals in the banking and financial sector. Thus the target group
of the programme is junior and middle level managers in the financial sector and those who are
waiting to embark Postgraduate Diploma in Banking and Financial Studies. The duration of the
programme is one academic year.
02. Master of Business Administration in Banking and Finance
This PGDBF leading to MBABF facilitate learning in theory and practices of major disciplines in
finance and banking and to equip the postgraduate students with an integrate approach to
managerial skills. This is the first postgraduate programme introduced by the Department of this
nature under the external Degree programme. Banking firms, one the other hand could monitor
this postgraduate programme and embody this into their promotion schemes too.
Department of Business Management
Department of Business Management (DBM) was institutionalized by the Extraordinary Gazette
No. 1093/8 of August 17, in 1999 by the Ministry of Higher Education with the recommendation
of the University Grant Commission of Sri Lanka. From the inception, DBM was the department
responsible for offering the common program for all four degree program of the faculty in addition
to the specialization program offered in the field of Business Management. At present, the Faculty
of Business Studies and Finance offers the common programe courses while DBM continues
offering the courses specialized in Business Management.
The DBM envisioned to be the best and the most preferred academic department for Business
Management. This aim is expected to materialize through the mission of committing to produce
excellent graduates well equipped with thorough knowledge in Business Management, while
continuously engaged in Business Management Research and Management Development.
The DBM offers B.Sc. (Special) Degree in Business Management. This is a four-year duration
programme and medium of instruction is English. This course extensively covers all aspects of
Business Management, and produces around 200 graduates annually.

The prime aim of the B.Sc. (Special) Degree in Business Management is to offer the students a
sound academic and professional background in Business Management enabling them to be
excellent managers in business and other organizations in Sri Lanka and around the globe.

Industrial Training
In-addition to the theoretical knowledge students obtain throughout the course every students
would spend approximately six months In-Plant Training at a Business Enterprise and have to
prepare them individually and must write a comprehensive report on Management and
Organizational issues as to fulfill the Degree requirement of the B.Sc. Degree Programme that is
offered by the Department.
External Programmes offered by Department of Business Management
Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management (PGDBM)
Programme of study will run through One Academic Year (Approximately one calendar year
duration) .Participants of the Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management (PGDBM) will
follow twelve courses modules during the period of one year. All courses will be compulsory.
Each course will be of about 30 hours of teaching. The academic year comprises with two terms.
Twelve courses would be taught during the period. In addition every participant should complete
a project report and submit the same at the end of the 2nd term of the
programme.
Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA)
This is the Second Academic year of the total programme. The participants devote their fall time
to complete a Management Research under the guidance of supervisors appointed by the
University. They may attend to a series of advanced seminars and lectures organized by the Faculty
of Business Studies & Finance.

Diploma in Business Management (DBM)
The Diploma in Business Management offers the ‘Diploma in Business Management’ to cater to
the long felt need of the Business sector in Sri Lanka. The DBM is designed to meet the challenges
of global business environment. It provides the opportunity for the participants to practice
conceptual, people and technical skills. This is a professional qualification for those staff attached
and potential employees to the business sector in Sri Lanka.

The Department of Insurance and Valuation is committed to enhance the education in the field of

Internship Programme

I. Diploma in Insurance This one year academic qualification is the only university diploma available in Sri Lanka
catering the requirements of employees in the insurance industry in Sri Lanka.
The prime objective of this diploma is to provide a firm grounding in insurance fundamentals
and to enable candidates to build towards advanced technical knowledge, thereby ensuring
candidates have the means to function effectively in a challenging environment.
This diploma course comprehensively covers all aspects of life and general Insurance and
fundamental concepts in management. The diploma provides an enhanced understanding of
insurance practice, both in terms of technical subject matters and overall management skills.
II. Higher Diploma in Insurance
This is an advanced academic qualification for insurance staff functioning across all sectors of
the insurance industry. The higher diploma in insurance programme provides an enhanced
profounder understanding of insurance practice both in terms of methodical subject matters
and overall management skills.
This programme is designed for those who interested in developing technical, conceptual and
analytical skills in modem theory and practice in each of the key areas of Insurance and Business
Administration.

Department of English Language Teaching
Although a fully-fledged department now under the Faculty of Business Studies and Finance, The
Department of English Language Teaching (DELT) started as two academic support units
(English Language Teaching Units (ELTUs)) each at Kuliyapitiya and Makandura premises. The
DELT of the Faculty of Business Studies and Finance conducts various programmes to improve
the English language proficiency of the undergraduates of all the faculties, the university staff
and the outside community. The Department uses all its human and physical resources to provide
effective teaching learning opportunities leading to the mastery of all facets of English as a
Second Language (ESL). The students are expected to develop greater confidence in themselves
as professionals to overcome challenges in effective communication in language related contexts
by acquiring effective communication skills through the courses and other activities offered by
the DELT.
