Function of Oblect Tgsted
The H-525 atomic weapon t r a i l e r i s a shipping and storage t r a i l e r for the XW-27 or TX-27.
Suromarv of Past Tests.
Previous t e s t s of the H-525 atomic weapon t r a i l e r have been conducted by Depar-taient 1610, The resxilts of these t e a t s are published in memorandums, Drop Test of the H-525 Tra i l e r with Albion Casters . Project No. TM-717, Ref. Sym: 1612 (668), hy R. VJ, Sargent, 1612-3, dated January 28, 1958, no instrumentation was requested for t h i s t e s t , and Ramp Test of tJie H-'525. Project No. Tr^-433, Ref, Sym: 1612 (372), ty D. F. Hil lyer and J . H. Stoever, dated January 23 , 1957. The maxirnimi faired v e r t i c a l accelera t ions recorded on the warhead dialing the drops without cas te r s were: 3.7 g a t the CG, 4.5 g a t the fwd. end, ard 3.6 g a t the aft end for the 4-inch drop and the TTwiriTmnn faired v e r t i c a l accelerat ions measured a t the XW-27 CG were 4 ,8 , 4 . 3 , and 5.3 g, respect ively , for the 6, S, and 10-inch drops.
The maximum fa i red v e r t i c a l acce le ra t ions measured on the Xl*/-27 during the 12-inch drop t e s t were: 6.5 g a t the CG, 7.5 g a t the fxiA, end, and 6.5 g a t the a f t , end.
These t e s t s were conducted in accordance with SCS-5, paragraph 3 . 4 . 1 . The only f a i l u r e noted dtiring these t e s t s was the fa i lu re of the H-525 t r a i l e r cas te r s during the 12-inch and 4-inch drop t e s t , respec t ive ly .
Setup for Test

Quick Release Mechanism
Foijr Cable Sling
Stathpjn accelerometers used for the t e s t are l i s ted in Table I and shown in Figures 1, 2, and 3»
Procedure
The j ^ s i c a l arrangement for the drop t e s t i s shown in Figures 1 and 2 , A four cable s l ing was attached to a chain h o i s t through a quick re lease mechanism, and connected to the H-525. The H-525 atomic weapon t r a i l e r without shear pads and the contained XW-27 duimny warhead was raised to the proper h e i s t s , released by means of the e l e c t r i c a l quick release mechanism, and allowed to impact on the concrete f loor . The t e s t un i t was aberrated from a l eve l posit ion in order t h a t the af t end would impact before the fwd. end. This was done by having the fwd. end about 3 A " higher than the af t end when in the drop pos i t ion .
Drops were made from h, 6, 8, 10 and 12 inches without c a s t e r s . The cas te r s were then mounted on the H-525 and a 12-inch drop was made. Visual inspection procedure was followed for a l l drop t e s t s . During the 12—inch drop t e s t with cas ters mounted a f a i l u r e occurred as shown in Figure h and t e s t ing was concluded.
Res\ilts
For the drops made without c a s t e r s . Figures S, 6 and 7 are p lots of the per cent of the O-peak accelerat ions measured on the t r a i l e r base t ransmit ted t o the cradle vs drop h e i ^ t , per cent of the 0-peak accelerat ions measured on the t r a i l e r cradlB transmitted to the Xff-27 CG vs drop height , and per cent of the 0-peak accelerat ions measured on the t r a i l e r base transmitted to the XW-27 GC vs drop b e i ^ t respect ively . On the basis of the plots i t appears t h a t when dropping an H-525 t r a i l e r without shear pads or c a s t e r s , from neights of from U to 12 inches tha t 20,0% to 125.C^ of the accelerat ions measured on the base of the H-525 t r a i l e r w i l l be transmitted to the t r a i l e r c rad le , 21,U^ to 50.C^ of the accelerat ions measured on the t r a i l e r cradle w i l l be transmitted to the CG of the XW-27, and 8.9^ to 30.0^ of the accelerations measured on the base of the H-525 t r a i l e r w i l l be transmitted to the XW-27 CG. For the 12-inch drop with c a s t e r s , 52,0 per cent of the 0-peak accelerat ion measured on the t r a i l e r base was transmitted to the cradlw, 110,0 per cent

of the 0-peak accelera t ion measured on the a f t end of the cradle was t ransmit ted to the XW-27 CG, and U9,8 per cent of the 0-peak accelerat ion measured on the fwd. end of the cradle was transmitted to the XW-27 CXJ. 57,0^ of the 0-peak accelera t ion measured on the t r a i l e r base was t ransmit ted to the XW-27 CG. No damage was manifest t o v i sua l inspection during and af ter a l l drop t e s t i n g v/ithout the cas ters mounted t o the H-525. During the 12-inch drop with casters mounted to the H-525, fa i lure occurred in the s t r u c t u r a l members of a l l cas te rs as shown in Figiipe h» Table H tabula tes the acce lera t ions , r i s e times and pulse durations measured during the drop t e s t s . I t should be noted tha t the accelerometers used to measure the accelerat ions are a seiamic mass type accelerometer and therefore have a f l a t frequency response to approximately 0,6 the i r na tura l frequency ( i . e . , any accelerat ion measured a t a frequency in excess of 0,6 the na tu ra l frequency of the accelerometer w i l l be a t tenua ted) , Figiu^e 5 i l l u s t r a t e s typ ica l oscillograph records of the drop t e s t without c a s t e r s . Figure 6 is the oscil lograph record of the drop t e s t with cas ters mounted on the K-525.
