governor, but allowed all men who owned land or paid taxes (so long as they were Christian) to vote for a legislative assembly

gentlemen• Who controlled the government? Planters dominated
local governing bodies, commanded the local militias (because they paid for them), and often served as de facto judges
Group Work
• In groups of 3-4 pick a colony to report on. • Include the following:
– founder– Who settled there– Did the people form a type of government– Any other information you can think of.
• Be creative! You don’t have to make a travel brochure, you can record a video on phones
• Use the Civics textbook and workbooks on windowsill
• You will report on your colony.
