Hosted by Larimer County Department of Natural Resources
presented byVisitor Services Manager Ken Brink and
Senior Ranger Steve Gibson
Started in 2005 as a joint training between Fort Collins Natural Area and Larimer County Dept. of Natural Resources sponsored by the Colorado Open Space Alliance.
This evolved into the Ranger Excellence School in 2011.
We recognized that many rangers throughout the state did not have the training needed, so it was opened to open spaces and park agencies and also to train our own seasonal rangers.
Provides rangers with training in swift water rescue, self-defense, medical incidents, law enforcement, wild land fire, wildlife and fishing contacts, verbal judo, search and rescue, mountain biking, and driving courses.
Believes in the importance of highly trained and professional rangers who are skilled in a variety of disciplines.
Understands the importance of serving the public and promotes a high level of customer service.
Provides a network to facilitate the exchange of information between park law enforcement personnel and other park, open space, and recreation professionals.
Trains rangers from around the state including Denver Parks, Boulder, Douglas County, Pikes Peak Highway, Aspen Parks, Colorado Parks and Wildlife, and AIMS Police Academy.
We have also had other state conservation agencies such as Wyoming, Texas, and Washington.
Instructors for classes range from LC Rangers, Colorado Parks and Wildlife, Boulder Sheriff’s, Larimer Sheriff’s, District Attorney’s office, Poudre Fire Athourity, and Flight for Life.
