TA Eligibility Criteria
Active Duty
USAR personnel eligible for Reserve Component TA (active drilling status/satisfactory participant)
AGR Status (Title 10/Title 32) soldiers

Tier 1: Soldiers who havea. not attained a bachelor’s degree
b. previously attained a bachelor’s degree or higher without the use of TA
c. attained a bachelor’s degree using TA and wish to pursue a certificate
Soldiers establish Tier 1 TA eligibility as follows: a. Enlisted Soldiers who have graduated Advanced
Individual Training (AIT).
b. Warrant officers who have graduated Warrant Officer Basic Course (WOBC).
c. Officers who have graduated Basic Officer Leaders Course (BOLC).

Tier 2: Soldiers who have
a. previously used TA for any portion of their undergraduate degree
b. attained a bachelor’s degree, and wish to pursue a master’s degree or certificate
Soldiers establish Tier 2 TA eligibility for pursuit of a master’s degree as follows:
a. Enlisted Soldiers who successfully completed Advanced Leaders Course (ALC).
b. Warrant Officers who have graduated Warrant Officer Advanced Course (WOAC).
c. Officers who have graduated Captains Career Course or equivalent (CCC).

TA Eligibility Requirements
Soldiers must not be flagged for any reason.
Soldiers must resolve any GoArmyEd account holds (i.e. TA GPA, Student Agreement, course withdrawals, etc.).
Soldiers must have sufficient time in service remaining to complete all courses for which the Soldier is requesting TA (IAW AR 621-5, prior to final out-processing date).

Soldiers cannot pursue a lower/lateral level degree with TA even if TA did not fund the previous degree. TA allows ONE degree per level & No Doctoral degrees.
Undergraduate Degrees- Limited to 130 semester hours
Graduate: - Limited to 39 semester hours- TA is not authorized for doctoral degrees
Certificates: - Limited to 21 semester hours - Limited to 1 certificate every 5 years

Types of Schools
Letter of Instruction (LOI)• All classes are listed in the GAE portal• Follow specific registration/drop guidelines• TA is automatically approved/rejected
Non-Letter of Instruction (NON-LOI)• Student needs to input and upload course information and cost
invoice 10 days prior to start date• Upload a copy of degree plan• Wait for approval (approximately 5-7 days)• Submit approved TA form to school as promissory note
*TA must be requested 5 business days prior to the start of the class for both types of schools

Course Planner requirement
Must submit approved student agreement in course planner after completion of 6 to 9 semester hours
• Must list all courses required for degree completion• Must show accepted transfer credits from previous schools and military
training• Must be signed by the school’s registrar or academic advisor• Cannot be a generic computer printout• May be required to complete a course planner
GPA Requirements
UNDERGRADUATE GRADUATE Must maintain a 2.0 GPA or
higher
Account goes on hold if GPA falls below 2.0 after completion of 15 semester hours
• Must enroll through your GAE portal to track GPA

Must maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher

Personnel Flags
Education Counselors and/or Helpdesk cannot lift personnel flags established by the Unit Commander.
Service member must contact PAC/S1 to resolve and have hold removed.
Resolved holds take 48-72 hours to update in GoArmyEd.

For Top- Up, MGIB/Post 9-11 benefits will not exceed the total costs of the course; TA will be applied first

Entitlement charges for Top-Up under Montgomery GI Bill – Active Duty is prorated based on the cost of the course(s).
Entitlement charges for Top-Up under Post 9/11 GI Bill will follow normal Post 9/11 GI Bill rules and will be charged normally.
