PASTOR’S PEN "Surrounded by Blessings"
Social media finally did a helpful thing. It helped me reflect on the past year. How? Facebook auto-generated a video review of 2018 using my photos. I had already been thinking about God’s many blessings from this year, but this brought it into focus.
This has been the year of BIG and BLESSED events: my oldest daughter Jordan's master degree graduation and marriage to Ryan Win-gate, my younger daughter Christian's senior year at Salem Col-lege, moving to Trinity after being at Canaan for six years, bicycling across the US with friends and family helping; doing a first "brothers ski ad-venture" in Colorado with Jon and Tim, going to WV Wesleyan College for
my 30th Class Reunion with my mom and dad, Mary and I celebrating our 30th anniversary this Dec. 31st, just to name a few.
I am overwhelmed and grateful to think of all the blessings of this year. What about you? Have you sat down to consider your blessings and even put them to paper?
Perhaps you may feel your life isn’t so blessed. If you spends some time reflecting I believe you will find much the same as me - God’s grace is evident in your life.
Johnson Oatman in 1897 encouraged Christians to do this in a hymn he wrote:
When upon life’s billows you are tempest-tossed, when you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,
count your many blessings, name them one by one, and it will surprise you what the Lord has done. Count your blessings, name them one by one. Count your blessings, see what God has done!
In Psalm 5 the psalmist put it this way, "But let all who take refuge in You rejoice; let them ev-er shout for joy. May You shelter them, that those who love Your name may rejoice in You. For sure-ly You, O LORD, bless the righteous; You surround them with the shield of your favor.” (v. 11-12)
As we head into 2019, take some time to reflect on your blessings and see what God has done. He has surrounded you with a shield of favor. He has sheltered you in the midst of the storms. So, as you enter a new year you can now take refuge in God’s grace and rejoice for how the Lord will bless your life. Depending on Christ,
Pastor Doug

TRUSTEE NOTE - Roofing
The membrane roof on our Sunday School building is at least 25 years old and the normal warranty of this material is 10 years so it has held up reasonably well. However it is now giving us problems with leaks. We do have new membrane roofs on the office/choir room roof and the connector. The sanctuary roof seems to be holding up well. Replacing the Sunday School building roof is a necessary expense. I am allocated $6000 per year for general repairs around the church property and this bill is going to be close to $22,000. I know we just completed our 3 year fund raiser for the Expansion Fund and we raised over $100,000.00 for that project which resulted in our front canopy extension, bathroom upgrades, Sunday School room make overs, and the new atri-um between our two buildings. As begin a new year, please consider a dona on to the maintenance fund of the church so we can all stay in the dry.

2019 WORSHIP
As we are heading into 2019, make it a resolution
to be in worship each week. Our new worship to start the
year is “My God and My Rock” based on the Psalms. Each week we will be using different images of God pro-vided from different Psalms.
