In April 2020 we conducted a research project that involved professionals from 10 different specialisms and four different nations to give us a detailed understanding of the skills required for their roles. This included a sample of nearly 350 UK managers.
We asked these managers to tell us which skills they believe are most important right now and which skills will be most important going into the next decade.
The results highlighted the importance of innovation and risk-taking, leading in a digital world and digital transformation, in addition to core people management skills.
The use of data to support strategy and operational management is a key component of managing in a digital world. This is why we have included a Level 7 MSc Applied Data Analytics within our leadership portfolio. This programme has a broad appeal and is suitable for data specialists as well as managers who are working extensively with data and want to enhance their capabilities.

We’ve invested heavily in understanding the capability needs of the management and leadership job family.
This includes a forensic analysis on what skills it needs and how those skills build from one level to the next; ensuring this is built into our programme content and the way they are delivered.
