Safety Standard Approvals
UL approval under File No. E67349 has been obtained for most of our photocouplers. EN60747-5-2 approvedphotocouplers are also supplied along with a wide selection of output (transistor, thyristor, triac, IC output andphotorelay). The designs of these devices meet other standards including IEC380/VDE0806,IEC60950/EN60950 and IEC60065/EN60065.
Small-Package ProductsTOSHIBA offers a wide variety of small packaged photocouplers to meet requirements for size reduction andspace savings in smaller and thinner end products. The devices include mini-flat packaged (MFSOP) productsand half-pitch (1.27 mm) mini-flat SOP packaged products.
Overseas Manufactured Photocouplers
TOSHIBA semiconductor Thailand manufactures general-purpose 4-pin phototransistors to help customerseasily procure components for overseas assembly of end products.
Preface
As a type of isolator favored by manufacturers, photocouplers
now serve as noise protectors in many electronic devices.
TOSHIBA's photocouplers incorporate into a white mold
package, a combination of either GaAs infrared LEDs or
GaA As infrared LEDs and silicon photodetectors. GaA As
LEDs are adopted in high-speed photo-IC types for their high
speed and high light output. TOSHIBA's innovative white mold
packaging also greatly contributes to high sensitivity, high
CTR, and superb reliability.

Phototriac Couplers in 4-pin DIP: TLP360J, TLP361J and TLP363J
The TLP360J and TLP363J are compact package versions of the TLP3052(S) and
TLP3063(S), the package type having been revised from 6-pin DIP to 4-pin DIP.
The inhibit voltage of the zero-cross type TLP361J and TLP363J has been improved by more
than half compared with the previous products, from V IH = 50 V (max) to VIH = 20 V (max).
This improvement reduces turn-on noise. And, these new products are suitable for use in
office equipment, triac drivers and solid state relays.

The TLP116 high performance photo-IC output coupler is housed in a mini-flat package that
realizes one third lower power consumption and twice faster switching speed than those of
the previous high-speed photo-IC coupler, TLP115A. A switching speed of 20 Mbps is
achieved, and the totem-pole output configuration makes bidirectional drive for the sink and
source possible. The maximum operating temperature of 100°C allows the TLP116 to beused in various applications such as plasma displays, measurement instruments, control
equipment and factory automations.
The devices housed in a Shrink Dual Inline Package (SDIP) meet the requirements for
reinforced insulation. Small photo-IC output couplers meeting international safety standards
have been housed in the widely used 8-pin DIP package; however, housing these devices in
the newly developed SDIP package can reduce footprint to 50% than that of the previous
package. TOSHIBA now offers three types of devices with this package: high-speed photo-IC
couplers, IGBT/MOSFET, IPM gate drive and general-purpose photo-IC.

2 New Products
The new TLP32xx Series photorelays exhibit lower output pin capacitance (COFF) and
On-resistance (RON) than previous devices.
In addition, they feature CR values of 2.5 pFΩ, 5 pFΩ and 10 pFΩ, which are
approximately equivalent to those of reed relays. These photorelays have been
developed in response to requirements for high-speed operation, high reliability, smallercomponent size. Such characteristics are required for testers and measuring instruments
used for testing semiconductor products (which by their nature are evolving at a rapid
pace). Besides, the TLP32xx Series is housed in the industry's smallest package, the
4-pin SSOP can achieve high-density mounting, 50 devices/inch2.
Low CR Photorelays for Testers and Measurement Instruments: TLP32xx Series
The new photorelays TLP3120, TLP3122 and TLP3542 can control high-load current
with maximum On-state resistances of 0.15 Ω, 0.70 Ω and 0.10 Ω respectively.
The TLP3542 guarantees 2 A of On-state current at an ambient temperature of 60°C.

Low-Cost Photorelays: TLP222A Series and TLP222G Series
The new TLP222A Series achieves high cost effectiveness with a switching trade-off
while retaining the current ratings of the previous TLP227A Series photorelays. The
new TLP222G Series also achieves high cost effectiveness by providing a trade-off for
higher On-resistance compared with the previous TLP227G Series.

The new TLP598AA, TLP598GA and TLP798GA are housed in a 6-pin DIP package
while offering the same main characteristics as the previous TLP598A, TLP598G and
TLP798G*. Because the trigger current for turning on the photorelay is improved from 5
mA to 3 mA, these new photorelays also offer higher performance.

Photo-IC Coupler for IGBT/MOSFET Gate Drive: TLP350
The TLP350 photo-IC coupler, realizing the lowest power consumption in the industry by
employing the Bi-CMOS process, is housed in an 8-pin DIP package and can directly
drive medium-power IGBTs. This new device is significant for reducing the power
consumption of the end product through an 80% reduction in supply current compared
with that of the TLP250. As a result, heat dissipation from the chip is also reduced, anda guaranteed maximum rating of 100°C is achieved for the operating temperature. The
TLP350 can be used in various applications such as inverters for air conditioners,
general-purpose inverters, AC servo motors and plasma displays.
The new photo-IC couplers TLP102, TLP106, TLP702 and
TLP706 are optimized for use in IPM gate drivers. The totem-
pole output configuration makes bidirectional drive possible
for the sink and source. Open-collector output type photo-IC
couplers often require a pull-up resistor ; however, employing
the totem-pole configuration for the TLP102, TLP106,
TLP702 and TLP706 eliminates the need for this resistor.
Toshiba provides two logic output types: an inverter logic,
the TLP102 and TLP702, and a buffer logic, the TLP106 and
TLP706. You can select the photo-IC couplers best suited toyour intelligent power modules. In addition, the shielded
detectors enable high common-mode transient immunity,
and excellent input and output noise characteristics.
