Keep a balanced diet
- five portions of fruit and veg a day
- Eat bread, pasta, rice or anything high in carbohydrates - Eat fish, eggs, nuts for protein
- fish contains omega 3 which are important for your baby’s nervous system
Take a pregnancy vitamin supplement if you are not eating well. Folic acid is important for the early stages of the pregnancy. You should take vitamin D to help with your baby’s future bone health.
Exercising on a regular basis can help build up your strength which will help you cope with the extra weight. It will also be easier for you to get back into shape after you have had your baby.
You could try:
- Swimming - Yoga - Brisk walking
Cut down or cut out on alcohol as it reaches the baby through your blood stream. Try to also cut back on caffeine as too much caffeine can increase your risk of having a low birth weight baby.
