Freshman Parent Meeting
Nov. 9 @ THS 6:30– We will have a parent meeting to discuss Fresh-
man graduation plans related to HB-5 and answer questions related
to current year and next year.
Extended Day
Students who have been absent from tests or have accumulated multiple zeros
and are endanger of failing the six weeks will be assigned extended day on Mon-
days and Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30 to make up missed tests or assignments.
Parent Portal
If you have not signed up for Parent Portal please contact the office if you need
assistance. Please encourage your child to sign up for their own account. They
can come by the office and we can sign them up.

FCCLA News
FCCLA in conjunction with Pediatric Dental of Gran-
bury are conducting a food drive to provide Thanksgiv-
ing meals to 3 local families. Please send non perish-
able food items with your students to Tolar High
School, Mrs. Raybon's room #20. This food drive will

Math Algebra/Pre-Cal/Calculus

PARENTS: Please continue to check with your student on a daily basis
as far as completion of homework and whether your student may need some extra help. As al-
ways, I typically arrive at school by 7:35 a.m. and am available during activity period. Students
need to be working outside of class to refine their math skills as we move through the curricu-
lum.
Algebra 1: We will go over midunit Test #6 and then retake the test on Tuesday. We will then
continue to study unit 6 (slope, graphing lines, working with linear functions).
Precal: Students will begin their study of transformations of functions, including reflections and
translations.
AP Calculus: Students will take their third exam on Monday. Afterward, we will study the chain
rule, higher order derivatives, and rates of change.
Advanced Precal: Students will begin their study of polynomial functions this week which will
take us into the next grading period.
Math Courses
Algebra II and Geometry Mrs. Teal: [email protected] Advanced Algebra 2 will be finishing their unit on Linear Programming and will begin the Matrix unit which provides
an easy way to solve systems of equations.
Geometry classes are finishing their unit on parallel lines and will begin discovering applications of triangles. Alge-
bra 2 will be finishing their unit on Matrices.
As the six weeks ends, please look at your student's grades in parent portal. Any zeroes are assignments that need
to be turned in but will be late. Assignments may be corrected for 1/2 credit up to a 75. Tests and Quizzes may be
retaken (after reteaching and review) to be averaged with their original test up to a 75. These tests will need to be
taken by Wednesday.

Science and engineering Courses
Science Biology/Adv. Chemistry/A&P

Biology will cover the plasma membrane. The will do vocabulary Monday and an osmosis lab on Tuesday. There will be a test over the vocabulary and any other terms covered this year on Friday. Notebooks are dues this week. First periods will be taken on Tuesday, 2nd periods on Wednesday and Advanced Biology's on Thursday.
Chemistry will be covering the quantum model of the atom. There will be a test Friday. Human Anatomy will be covering the skeleton.
Principles of Technology/Engineering Design

Chem - Chemistry will start discussing electron configuration. This is a tougher topic to understand, so the entire week will be dedicated to electron configuration.
IPC - IPC will learn and practice balancing equations before completing an assignment over balancing equa-tions and moving on to nuclear reactions.

English III DC - Students will begin writing their editorial essays. This will be 20% of their
Weatherford College grades and a test grade for Tolar HS.
English IV - Students will begin reading "Morte d'Arthur," as we continue our study of the King
Arthur legend. REMINDER - students should bring their poster boards to trace the pattern for
their family shields, which are due NEXT MONDAY.
English IV DC - Students will finish "Morte d'Arthur," then begin working on their research pa-
pers. They must choose a piece of British literature and analyze an area of disagreement
among critics regarding the text.
Freshman Reading - We will continue reading "Never Fall Down."
English Language Arts Courses
English ELA II & III

10th on-level: Students will continue the research paper: composing rough drafts, works cited, and edit-ing/revising rough draft. SAT vocab quiz Tuesday.
10th advanced: Students will continue the research paper: composing rough drafts, works cited, and ed-iting/revising rough draft. SAT vocab quiz on Tuesday.
11th on-level: Students will continue the Literature of the Revolutionary War unit with the Declaration of Independence, "Poor Richard's Almanack" and Thomas Paine's from "The Crisis". Test over the unit at the end of the week. SAT vocab quiz on Tuesday.
9th Reading and Creative Writing: Son by Lois Lowry.
English ELA I

In English I, we'll be finishing Romeo and Juliet. Our last assignment for the play will be an essay that counts as a major grade, but the essay isn't due until the third six weeks. Our last major grade for this six weeks is a vocabulary test over all word roots on Wednesday. This is a great opportunity to boost grades; it's just a matter of studying!

Spanish 2: Casi se muere chapter 4 worksheet due on Thursday with a QUIZ write up from memory in Spanish of the story to date (This will be a quiz); Also worksheet will be due; Continue with irregular preterite tense; NUMBER QUIZ on Friday with practice beforehand.

FCCLA Volunteered at the Elementary Fall Festival on October 17. Thank you to all of the stu-
dents that participated and showed their community spirit.
Lifetime Nutrition and Wellness Students will be finishing their study of the human digestive
system and metabolism between now and Thanksgiving. During the last three weeks of the Fall
semester these students will be working on a major project and cooking lab that will make or
