PetrelStudioPart2

ThisisthesecondoftwoTIPS&TRICKSonthePetrelStudio.ThePetrelStudiowasintroducedinPetrel2011andcontainsmanyusefulfeatures.Thefollowingtopicsarecoveredinthistwopartseries:

1. TheFavoritespane(coveredinPart1)2. StudioFind(coveredinPart1)3. StudioAnnotate(coveredhere)4. MapServices(coveredhere)

StudioAnnotate:StudioAnnotateisdesignedtogiveyoutheabilitytoaddcontenttoyourPetrelproject.Thiscontentcanincludefilesresidingoutsideoftheproject.Thesefilescanbeonyourcomputer,onacompanyinternetorintranetorelsewhereontheweb.Linkstothesefilesarecarriedwiththeproject.ThesefilescanbesharedwithotherprojectsviatheReferenceProjectTool(RPT).Anytypeoffile(sound,document,PDF,video,etc.)canbeadded.Anytypeofnote(formattedtext,embeddedpicture,hyperlink,URL,etc.)canalsobeadded.Thefilesareconnectedtoalocationonanobjectinawindow.Forexample,displayonlysomeorallwellsina3Dwindow.Zoominfairlyclosearoundthemandmakethemnearlyverticalinthewindow.Thisallowsyoutoseethewellboreswhichwewilluseasreferencelocations.

AnytypeofPetrelobjectmaybedisplayedandused.Inthisexample,weareonlyusingwellbores.

IftheAnnotatetoolbarisntvisible,clickonViewAnnotatetomakeitvisible.

OntheAnnotatetoolbar,youcanaddanote,afile,avoicerecordingoraURL.Theothericonswillbeexplainedlaterinthisarticle.Petrel2012hasaddedafewoptions.Thetwotoolbarslooklike:ThisTIPS&TRICKSusesonlythePetrel2012toolbarbelow.Files:Toaddafile,fromtheAnnotatetoolbar,clickontheInsertfileattachment icon.

1. Clicksomewhereononeofthewellbores.Thisjustmarksareferencelocationforthefileanditsexactlocationisusuallynotcritical.

2. Awindowappears.Navigatetothefoldercontainingthefiletoattach.HighlightthefilenameandclickOpen.Thefilemaybesometypeofpicture(atif,jpg,etc.),aWorddocument,aspreadsheet,etc.

3. Amarkerappearsonthewellboreatthechosenlocation.Also,anAnnotatefolderiscreatedin

theInputpane(ifitdoesntalreadyexist).Underthisfolder,anAttachmentsfolderiscreatedwiththefilelocatedunderthisAttachmentsfolder.

4. Notethat,likeallotherPetrelobjects,theboxinfrontoftheattachmentmustbecheckedtoseeitinthegraphicswindow.Afteritisdisplayed,inSelect/pickmode,rightclickonthemarkerandchooseOpen.YoucouldalsohaverightclickedontheobjectintheInputpaneandchosenOpen.

5. Thepictureopens.

1. Clicksomewhereonawellboretomarkalocation.Thelocationisusuallynotcritical.

6. ANoteeditorappears.Typeinsomenote(like:Thewellhasnologs)andclickOK.

7. ThenotewillappearinthegraphicsareaandaNotesfolderappearsunderthemainAnnotate

folderintheInputpane.Thetitleofthenoteisthefirstfewlettersofthenotetext.

8. Todisplaythenote,rightclickoneithertheobjectintheInputpaneoronthemarkeronthewell

bore(mustbeinSelect/pickmode)andselectShow.Again,theboxinfrontofthenotemustbecheckedtoseethemarkerinthegraphicswindow.

URL:ToinsertalinktoaURL,clickontheInsertURLAttachment iconontheAnnotatetoolbar.

2. WhentheAddURLattachmentwindowappears,keyinavalidURL.Youmayalsoenteraname

fortheURL.ThedefaultnamewillbetheURLitself.

3. ThewindowismarkedtoshowtheURLlocationandanewobjectisaddedundertheAnnotateAttachmentsfolder.

4. InSelect/Pickmode,rightclickonthemarkeronthewellandchooseOpen.Yourdefaultweb

browseropensandthewebpageisdisplayed.

VoiceRecording:Toinsertavoicerecording,clickontheInsertVoiceRecording iconontheAnnotatetoolbar.

2. AVoicerecorderwindowappears.

3. ClickontheStartrecordingbutton andstarttalkingintoyourmicrophone.Whenyouare

finished,clickontheStoprecordingbutton .

4. TherecordingisplacedatthebottomoftheAttachmentsfolderasa.wavfileandlocatedonthepicture.Toheartherecording,rightclickonthemarkerandchooseOpen.Dontforgettotakeyourcomputeroffmute.

AnnotateManager:TheAnnotateManagerallowsyoutocontrolallannotationsidentifiedwiththistool.

1. Toaccessthemanager,clicktheOpenannotatemanagericon .

2. ThisbringsuptheAnnotatemanagerwindow.Thewindowlistsallannotationscurrentlyattached

totheproject.

3. Highlightalinebyclickingonthelinenumbertotheleft.Afterhighlighting,iconsatthetopofthe

windowbecomeactive.(Activationofsomeofthemisdependentontheannotationhighlighted.

4. Usingtheseicons,youmay:

a. OpentheSettingsfortheannotationb. Turntheselectedobjectoninthecurrentactivewindow.c. Showtheassociatedobjectinthecurrentactivewindow(theobjectyoupinnedthe

5. Youmayshowinthelisttheactive,archivedorbothactiveandarchivedannotations.

6. UsingtheObjectfilter,youmayfiltertheattachmentlisttocertainobjectsthattheattachmentsarelinkedtoorfolderscontainingtheobjectsthattheattachmentsarelinkedto.

7. Hereagain,youmaycheckorunchecktheboxinfrontoftheattachmenttodisplayitinthecurrentactivewindow.

8. Youmayaddasmanyattachmentsasyouwantand,ofcourse,deletethemifyounolongerwantthemattachedtoyourproject.Thelinks(andnotes)arecopiedalongwithyourprojectandcanbecopiedtoanotherprojectusingtheRPT.

9. Anothericonallowsyouturnonvisualizationofallattachmentsiftheobjecttheyareattachedtoisvisible.Thisisthesameasputtingacheckmarkintheboxinfrontofeachattachment.Thisiconlookslike:

MapServices:AMapServiceallowsyoutoaddmapscontainingpossiblecultureinformationfromaGISsuchasArcGIS.ThismightkeepyoufromhavingtofindalotofcultureinformationinPetrelformat.OncetheMapServicehasbeengenerated,thisinformationcanbedisplayedalongwithobjectsfromyourPetrelproject.YouMUSThaveaninternetconnectiontogetaMapService.Inthisexample,wewilldisplaythewells,picksandasurfaceinagraphicswindow.WeareusingdatafromtheGulfaksfieldlocatedintheNorthSea.
