    J.D. STEPHENSBENTON (28-9)Stephens led a consistentprogram in his first threeseasons at Benton, makingthe 4A quarterfinals eachseason and winning 27-plusgames. The Tigers aimed tobreak through to a statetournament, but Bentons 2-1record against Evangel thisseason and its third straightdistrict title is noteworthy.

    BRYANT BOWENCAPTAIN SHREVE,SENIOR, CATCHERThe Southern Miss signeebatted over .500 for most ofthe season before his averagedipped to .478, and the hitswere usually significant. Ofthe District 1-5A MVPs 54 hits,32 went for extra bases,including a Gators single-season record of 25 doublesalong with seven home runs.He led Captain Shreve to theplayoffs as a No. 23 seed.

    ALEX BOONENORTH DESOTO, JR.A consistent force in the Griffins whohit for power (31 RBIs, 2 HR) and aver-age (.435). He led the Griffins to thesecond round of the Class 4A playoffs.He and running mate Hunter Speights(also a junior) will form arguably themost dangerous pair of bats in the areanext season.

    PITCHER OF THE YEAR

    CAMERON GRAYLAKESIDE, SO.Gray is one of the best youngarms in this corner of thestate as he put together a 5-2record with 1.09 ERA. Hestruck out 66 in 57 2/3 in-nings. Only nine of his 17runs allowed were earned,and he walked only 13 bat-ters. Lakeside shared theDistrict 1-2A title with Calvaryand lost in the first round ofthe playoffs.

    RICHARD PARTRIDGEFLORIENIn an area accustomed to having atleast one state baseball champion,Partridge and the No. 2 seed Black-cats brought home the only statetitle. Florien (23-6) blasted throughClass B by winning three of their fiveplayoff games by nine runs or more,including the championship 10-1over Fairview.
