The Red Queen hypothesis, is an evolutionary
hypothesis which proposes that organisms
must constantly adapt, evolve, and proliferate
not merely to gain reproductive advantage,
but also simply to survive while pitted against
ever-evolving opposing organisms in a constantly
changing environment. The hypothesis intends to
explain two different phenomena: the constant
extinction rates as observed in the
paleontological record caused by co-evolution
between competing species, and the advantage
of sexual reproduction (as opposed to asexual
reproduction) at the level of individuals.https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Queen_hypothesis

Monitoring fertility for policy and
planning purposes
New and innovative data sources, like web engine search
queries or social media posts could complement existing
practices and provide new insights into demographic behavior
(Billari et al., 2013; Zagheni and Weber, 2015).
Monitoring fertility, including its short-term fluctuations
becomes more important than it was earlier, especially for
measuring the effect of shifts such as the one provoked by the
Great Recession (Sobotka et al., 2005; Ramiro et al.,2017).
Use of complementary additional information and
nowcasting instead of waiting for the production of reliable
yearly or monthly statistics based on events that already took
place months or a year ago.
Interest in connecting demographic behaviour and trends with
“soft” measures: complementary information on attitudes,
values, feelings or intentions (Mencarini et al., 2018; and Sulis et
al., 2016).
