Specific Interests
Identifying cognitive, affective, and behavioral factors involved in addiction motivation. In
particular, delineating the roles of negative affect, and outcome expectancies in smoking
maintenance and relapse.
Examining the degree to which models of learning can describe and predict the maintenance and
cessation of substance use.
Translation of basic research in the above areas to develop theoretically-derived intervention
strategies for smoking cessation and relapse prevention.
Development of cost-effective interventions for substance abuse, including self-help programs.
