Before We asked, what is A or THE theme. If you could reason it out, it was VALID and good. Now We must observe items, track them in the text, propose how we learned the THEME from this progression. HOW does the text teach the theme rather than it just does. Steps You Should Take for Film Analysis 1)Identify (Observe / Summarize) that a literary (cinematic) element is happening! Tracking elements in a journal is a good idea. 2)Think about how that element is treated IN the text. This is why we encourage you to view actively! 3)Think about (Analyze) how you might be being pushed (by the author) to react to that and to learn from it. War in Johnny Got His Gun In General If we see something positive, the text is probably trying to teach us that WE should do something similar. If we see something negative, the text is probably trying to teach us that WE should do the opposite. CHALLENGE What is positive? What is negative?
