CHAPTER I
REJOICING IN THE SKY
Before October 13, 1917, our small blue planet Earth had never witnessed
such rejoicings in the sky. On this day, in an insignificant corner of this azure
globe, in a tiny village called Fatima, Portugal, the sun performed an
exuberant dance, displaying spinning and shimmering celestial fireworks
before a crowd of onlookers who had packed together like so many sardines
to see it.
Fatima, from insignificant village to second most visited city in Portugal
Among the witnesses of this display was a man of uncommon intelligence.
Professor José Proença Garret. He was not a member of any religion. He was
a scientist who had come that day with a pair of binoculars. He wrote down
a detailed description of the spectacular phenomenon for posterity.
Professor Garret found a place with a good view at this natural amphitheater
where, since that May, mysterious apparitions had been taking place on the
13th of each month. He calculated the size of the crowd by counting the
number of people standing nearest him, estimating the footage this number
took up, and estimating the size of the natural amphitheater the crowd

occupied. He concluded there were between 70 000 to 100 000 people
watching.
It was past twelve o’clock. For almost a quarter of an hour, the three little
shepherds who were at the center of all of this excitement stood in an
ecstatic state.
Suddenly, the oldest of the children, Lucia dos Santos, pointed an index
finger towards the sky: “Look, look!” she shouted stridently.
Dr. Garret lifted his eyes. He wondered if he was hallucinating. The sun
appeared to be falling to the earth. Without considering the risk to his eyes,
he grabbed his binoculars and looked through them at the sun.1 Here is his
account of this event:
THE MIRACLE OF THE SUN
“It must have been 1:30 p.m. when there arose, at the exact spot where the children were, a column of smoke, thin, fine and bluish, which extended up
to perhaps two meters above their heads, and evaporated at that height.
“This phenomenon, perfectly visible to the naked eye, lasted for a few
seconds. Not having noted how long it had lasted, I cannot say whether it
was more or less than a minute. The smoke dissipated abruptly, and after
some time, it came back to occur a second time, then a third time.”
“The sky, which had been overcast all day, suddenly cleared; the rain
stopped and it looked as if the sun was about to cover with light the
countryside that the winter morning had made so gloomy. I was looking at
the spot of the apparitions in a serene, if cold, expectation of something
occurring and with diminishing curiosity because a long time had passed
without anything to excite my attention. The sun, a few moments ago, had
broken through the thick layer of clouds which hid it and now shone clearly
and intensely.”
1 The fact that Dr Garret could observe the sun with his binoculars without his retinas being instantly damaged
was a miracle by itself.
The True Third Secret of Fatima – Chapter 1

“Suddenly, I heard uproar of thousands of voices, and I saw the whole
multitude of people spread out in that vast space, turn their backs to that
spot where, until then, all their expectations had been focused, and looked
at the sun on the other side. I turned around, too, looking towards the
direction and point commanding their gaze and I could see the sun, like a
very clear disc, with its sharp edge, which gleamed without a fog, yet there
was no fog at that moment, for it was neither veiled nor dim. At Fatima, it
kept its light and heat, and stood out clearly in the sky, with a sharp edge,
like a large gaming table. The most astonishing thing was to be able to stare
at the solar disc for a long time, brilliant with light and heat, without hurting
the eyes or damaging the retina. During this time, the sun’s disc did not remain steady; it had a giddy motion, but not like the twinkling of a star in
all its brilliance for it spun around upon itself in a mad whirl.”

“During the solar phenomenon, which I have just described, there were also changes of color in the atmosphere. Looking at the sun, I noticed that
everything was becoming darkened. I looked first at the nearest objects and
then extended my glance further a field as far as the horizon. I saw
everything had assumed an amethyst color. Objects around me, the sky and
the atmosphere, were of the same color. Everything both near and far had
changed, taking on the color of old yellow damask, people looked as if they
were suffering from jaundice and I recall having a sensation of amusement at
seeing them look so ugly and unattractive. My own hand was the same
color.”
“Then, I heard a clamor, a cry of anguish emanating from the crowd. The sun, whirling wildly, seemed all at once to break itself from the firmament,
now bloody red, advancing towards the earth, threatening to crush us with
its huge and fiery weight. The sensation during those moments was truly
terrible.”
“All the phenomena which I have described ere observed by me in a calm
and serene state of mind without any emotional disturbance. It is for others
to interpret and explain them. Finally, I must declare that never, before or
after October 13, 1917, have I observed similar atmospheric or solar
phenomena.”
Who had ever seen the sun dance like this? Which event was announced by
the sun in such a spectacular way? To answer this question is tantamount to
disclosing the Third Secret of Fatima. But let us not anticipate. Let’s review a second testimony. This next witness is Carlos de Azevedo Mendes, a
lawyer, 28 years old.
TESTIMONY OF AZEVEDO MENDES
Fatima, October 13th, shortly before noon.
Mr. Carlos de Azevedo Mendes went to Fatima for the first time in
September 1917. He had been motivated by curiosity. He wanted to see the
mysterious hills culminating at the top of Batalha, where, since May 13 th, the
baffling monthly apparitions had been taking place and gathering the
attention of people and the newspapers. After this visit, he decided to go to
the home of the three youngsters, to whom the apparition had been speaking
for these months. Once there, he played children’s games with the youngsters to gain their confidence. Thereafter, he submitted them to cross -

examination. Their sincerity touched him deeply. In his deposition, made in
1960, he declared:
“After the first visit to Fatima, in the beginning of September, I wrote a letter to my fiancée informing her that I was convinced that something out
of the ordinary happened with the young shepherds of Fatima. I planned to
go back to that village on the 13th to see with my own eyes what all this was
about. I described to her the children and their sincerity when they briefed
me about the apparitions. All three affirmed to me that a lady appeared to
them but did not know who she was.
Oct. 13, 1917 : A view of the awe-stricken multitude who had the privilege to see the
miracle of the sun at Fatima
“There were several people in Fatima, that September 13th, a month before
the miracle. Many among these people would later say that they saw silver
rain and other mysterious phenomena, but I personally didn’t see a thing. I felt disappointed when a minute later the children, who were kneeling, got
up, saying that it was over. I then decided that I would not venture to
Fatima on October 13th. However, some kind of urge struck me to go that
day. Suddenly I found myself there, along with my brother Candido and some
of his friends, standing a small distance from the site of the apparitions. I
The True Third Secret of Fatima – Chapter 1

saw the children arrive. I saw them kneeling when suddenly we were all hit
by an abrupt silence. I still remember everything as though it was yesterday.
Once again, while the children were talking to the apparition, people around
me were describing what they were seeing but I couldn’t see anything unusual.”
Suddenly the enchantment:
“It was shortly past twelve noon when all of the sudden, I heard the crowd shouting. I lifted up my eyes and saw the sun comparable to a round fire
starting to shake through the clouds. This lasted several seconds during
which time I had an impression that the sun was falling from the sky. All the
faces around me changed color. Shouting and exclamations were coming
from all over the crowd, followed by acts of contrition, of love to God. An
indescribable moment! You feel it, you are subjugated, but it’s impossible to describe.”
“It rained all morning that day, and the sky was full with clouds, but the rain suddenly stopped. Seized by intense emotion, I moved forward, picked up
little Lucia, and put her on my shoulder. In short, what I saw in Fatima that
day staggered my mind and I was convinced that anybody that has seen the
miracle or even merely heard about it, could only have been impressed by its
greatness. I still remember it at present as though it happened today.2 I still
feel overwhelmed by this extraordinary event that I witnessed on October
1917.”
“I am not the only one to feel like that: all Portugal was profoundly upset!” What a rejoicing, my friend, what a celebration! But what event could the
sky and the heavens be celebrating in this fabulous manner? Be patient and
you will know. Here is one last testimony.
This is the testimony of Mario Godinho. He was an engineer and an atheist
who converted to Christianity after seeing the miraculous phenomenon.
THE TESTIMONY OF MARIO GODINHO
Mario Godinho, from a well-known Portuguese family, had been going to
Fatima since June 13 of that year. The 25 year old atheist drove his mother
there to humor her; she was already convinced that something miraculous
2 Let us remember that this testimony was written in 1960.
The True Third Secret of Fatima – Chapter 1
11
was going on there. On a small historical note, the 25 year old Godinho was
the first to ever visit the area of Cova da Iria by driving an automobile.
He related:
“My family lives 25 kilometers from Fatima. On May 1917, rumors came to our attention about extraordinary apparitions in Fatima. I had never believed
in ghosts and thought the whole thing was an exaggerated rumor. My
mother, pious as she was, believed the news and convinced me to go along
during the second apparition of the Lady of Fatima. Below the road we saw
the three little shepherds holding candles. After that, additional people
showed up waiting for the apparition. In front of the children there was a
green helm oak tree. The children pointed at the tree where the lady would
appear.”
“As far as I was concerned, I didn’t see anything that day – which further
persuaded me that these youngsters were delirious. Since we were in the
car, I offered to take them. We profited from this occasion to ask them
questions. Far from being discouraged by the first experience, my mother
asked me again to take her to Cova da Iria on August 13th. Once more I came
back discouraged and disappointed. In the interim though, something
wonderful happened. My mother, who had suffered with a tumor in her eye
for years, had suddenly been cured.”
“The doctors who treated her said that they couldn’t explain what had happened. I still didn’t believe about the apparitions. But one more time because of insistence of my mother, on October 13th, I accompanied her to
Cova da Iria.”
The Dance of the Sun
“This time the attendance was huge: hundreds and hundreds of pilgrims, and several vehicles. To see this assortment of people was a shock. Since I was
still skeptical, I didn’t even get out of my car. Then all of the sudden, I noticed that everybody was staring towards the sky. Prompted by a natural
curiosity I exited my car and looked up as well. I saw a space opening in the
sky. With such an opening it’s usually impossible to stare at the sun itself.”
“The sun resembled a smoked green object. Its back was more illuminated than its front. It was spinning on itself, which gave the impression it was
falling on our heads. I was then able to see the sun more clearly, as you can
better see the moon at night. From the crowd, I heard words of adoration

and fascination. I was then convinced that I was not being subjected to a
hallucination. I saw this sun like I will never see it again.”
EUROPE AND AFRICA ATTENDING THE SAME CELEBRATION
The sun danced on October 13, 1917, in the presence of scores of thousands
of people.
Science tells us that the sun is situated about 93 million miles from the earth
and that it is about 1.3 million times the volume of our planet in size. It is a
gigantic sphere made largely of hydrogen gas in a state of constant nuclear
fusion. Our planet would pop like a bubble, were it to pass through a flaring
arm of the super fire that pirouettes routinely from the sun’s surface. It is difficult for the human mind to conceive that it danced before the people
gathered at Fatima. Yet the earth is a part of the sun, which is a star – a star
of life pre-eminently, and it indeed did dance in Joy as an act of allegiance
to an event affecting all human affairs.
This event, still in gestation in October 1917, was scheduled to happen four
years later – this time in the center of the African continent.
If in Portugal the sky displayed such magnificence, so much as to mark and
seal that indelible day, it was to celebrate the symbolic marriage of heaven
and earth for an event of near-cosmic importance.
The rejoicings that took place in the sky at Fatima were scheduled to
continue shortly in the sacred land of Africa: the land where God proudly
created with His own hands the first man and the ancestor of the human
race. The region where this event would happen again was a place of great
messianic expectations.
REJOICINGS ON EARTH
The “Great War” that set Europe ablaze had just ceased through the
exhaustion of the enemies. The excitement created by the Miracle of Fatima
was expanded for that, as the end of the war had been one of the timely
predictions made by the apparition to the children.
Africa was on the same wavelength with Fatima. An inspired man would
continue the testimony that the Miracle of Fatima indicated on earth, on the

equator, located in the middle of where once stood the ancient kingdom of
Kongo dia Totela.3
This man’s name was Simon Kimbangu. He was born in 1889, in the southern
part of what is now called the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Belgian
Congo at that time. His name, which means “The Messenger” or “The Witness”, must have been chosen with some unrecognized prescience by his
parents; in 1918, at age 30, Kimbangu began to make prophecies. Like Jesus
Christ to thousand years ago, Simon was called by a divine voice to shepherd
a scattered flock.
Simon Kimbangu’s homeland, where Kongo dia Totela once flourished, is the
home of the twelve vila or tribes of Kongo. Their origins stem back more
than 3500 years, to the pharaonic dynasties of Egypt, to a legendary prophet
and lawmaker called Maza.4
Young Simon Kimbangu, in 1921, when he performed his miracles
By the time Simon Kimbangu began his activity, the peoples of this ancient
culture had long lived in a shamble of despair. The territory, overrun by
3 Kongo dia Totela means The Kingdom of the Totality. Territory of the Ancient Kingdom of Kongo which
comprises vast regions of the present Angola, Congo-Kinshasa and Congo-Brazzaville. 4 Maza is a Kongo word meaning « water » from which derive in French, Moïse, in English, Moses, in Yiddish,
Moshe, in Arabic, Moussa.

land-grabbing Europeans, was in a terrible drought. There was famine and
widespread epidemics. The living descendants of these twelve tribes, hurt
and dying, lifted their eyes toward the skies and cried hopelessly.
Kimbangu belonged to the nSaku tribe, whose members by tradition served
as priests for the people of Kongo dia Totela. It was instinctive for Kimbangu
to listen within himself for divine solutions to the problem of the misery of
his countrymen. He hoped to hear a divine call to comfort his ailing society,
and “turn the hearts of his people back to their Father, and that of the Father, back to His children.”5 He was not ready for the responses he began
to hear.
Simon Kimbangu’s calling and the events of Fatima were connected, but no one but the celestial sphere seemed to have recognized it. Kimbangu felt the
sounds of miraculous divinity calling within, but feeling unworthy of it, he
resisted. If tales of miracle-working prophets can be called “common”, one does commonly find in ancient writings that people who become prophets
are of such authentic humility that they commonly protest to the God Who
has called them that they aren’t worthy of deeds they are called upon to do.
Kimbangu tried to escape the voice that haunted him by leaving his native
village of nKamba. He went to Leopoldville, the capital of the country, now
called Kinshasa.
However, can one escape out of range from the Almighty Lord? The psalm
lyrics answer us:
You have searched me, LORD,
and you know me.
2 You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
3 You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
4 Before a word is on my tongue
you, LORD, know it completely.
5 You hem me in behind and before,
and you lay your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.
5 Malachi 4 : 6
The True Third Secret of Fatima – Chapter 1
15
7 Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10 even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.
11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,” 12 even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.6
Each word of this psalm glued of itself to the soles of Kimbangu’s shoes; so much so that his feet seemingly independently guided him back to Kamba
after three years in Leopoldville. Swamped by the Holy Ghost in April 1921,
he transformed and began proclaiming to his people that Christ would
return, in Africa, in the midst of his twelve (hidden) tribes. He preached of
the forthcoming Kingdom of God.
Kimbangu, some may guess, is indeed the Messenger of the last days spoken
of in Matthew:
“But I say unto you that Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but
have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of
Man suffer of them.”
6 Psalms 139 : 2-12

Prophet Simon Kimbangu in 1951 a few months before his death
One versed in the New Testament may rightfully retort: Wasn’t John the Baptist the Messenger? Yes. The role befell to John the Baptist to prepare
the way for the Messiah in Palestine 2000 years ago. However, this same
mission was entrusted to Simon Kimbangu during the twentieth century, in
these closing days of the age, in accordance with the principle of prophetic
duality.
This principle states that an event or character – referred to as the “type” in this method of thinking – is also a shadow or precursory sign of another event
or character – called the “antitype”7 – that will intervene in the future under
the same kinds of conditions. In these terms, John the Baptist is the “type”, Kimbangu is the “antitype.”
The scriptures describing the miracles that happened in Palestine during the
time of Jesus of Nazareth would be, according to the above principle, the
“type”. We present here accounts of miracles performed in the center of the African continent earlier in the 20th century. These are the “antitype” events, all of which happened before thousands of witnesses, and mirror the
story of Christ’s previous emergence.
Finangani8 and Zungu, two eyewitnesses of Kimbangu’s miracles, understood that they were living exceptional moments, not only for the people of the
Kongo, but for humanity. They wrote down what their eyes saw.
7 JOHN A. HALFORD, Introduction to the Prophecy, p. 10 8 Finangani is a cousin of Simon Kimbangu.

We here reproduce their testimony. We have preserved the authors’ writing style, making nothing but a few grammatical corrections.
TESTIMONY OF “FINANGANI AND ZUNGU”
On April 1921, a huge crowd of people came to receive blessings and seek
healing. A man affected by paralysis arrived. He couldn’t move his arms, legs, or any other articulation of his body. He says:
“I came to see you, God’s Prophet, so that I can feel better again and walk.”
The Prophet says:
“In the name of Christ, stand up!”
At once, the man got up, and the crowd was amazed. This man lived in the
village of Lukunga, by the name of Matubuka.9
Altogether sixty-five people came to see him for blessings and healing,
suffering from all kinds of diseases. Among them, there was a man named
nGoma. He said :
“I came to visit you because I am blind.”
The Prophet said, “What do you wish?” The man said, “I want to see again.” The Prophet spits on the ground and mixes a mud with his spit and rubs it on
his eyes, ordering him to go wash it off. He regained his sight and glorified
God for what happened with him.10
Arrived also was a man from the village of nTumba Lulumbe. He was a mute.
When he arrived, he stared at Kimbangu. The Prophet laid his hands on his
head and said to him, “In the name of Jesus Christ, speak!”
At once, the mute spoke.
Another who came was a child named Thomas, from the village of Lombo. He
was affected with deformations. His mother laid him on the feet of the
Prophet, who said:
“What do you want me to do for your child?”
The mother says, “I would like for him to be redressed and become normal.”
9 Lukunga is a vil lage in the south of Kongo-Kinshasa. It is in that region that the prophet performed most of his
miracles. 10 Compare with Mark 8 : 22-25 and John 9 : 1 ; 6-7.

The Prophet responds, “In the name of Jesus Christ, stand up and walk!”
The child gets up. His legs became strong and he walks.
The word that the Prophet was healing people became widely spread. The
crowd became so large that people could hardly move to reach the Prophet.
One day, during the month of April 1921, the corpse of a girl, dead three
days before, was brought to the village. However, before they reached the
village, God revealed to the Prophet Simon that there was a dead body that
was coming, and for him to revive the body in the name of Jesus Christ.
The corpse arrived. It was placed at the Prophet’s feet. The father of the child’s name was Bonix and the mother’s name was Vango.
The father said, “Simon, Prophet of God, have pity for my child, so she could regain life!” The name of the child was Dina.
Simon said, “Your child is not dead, she is simply sleeping.”11 He says to the
child, “In the name of Christ, wake up!”
The child awoke and stood up at once.
The crowd was enchanted and started singing praise to the Lord. During that
time the Prophet felt the spirit of the Lord reaffirming him. He walked out
of the house and was heading to the hills with the child. Arriving there, he
says to her, “Go in peace!” and gave him a handshake.
Dina says to him also, “Stay in peace.”
The child’s father says to the Prophet, “If you would accept money, I would have given you 50 pata,12 but you don’t accept offerings.”13
The Prophet went back to his divine task of blessing and healing people.
Arriving on a hammock or tipoy14 was Mr. nKunki. He was an inhabitant of a
village called Lumueno. He walked up and kneeled in front of the Prophet at
the same time saying, “I have been sick for a while and cannot get up. I came to you, Prophet of God. I would like to get up.”
The Prophet responded, “Get up in the name of Christ!”
11 Compare with Luke 8 : 49-56. 12 Monetary denomination at the time : 5 congolese franks. 13 Matthew 10 : 8. 14 Portable chair used generally by the European colonialists to be physically carried over by African from one

At once, nKunki got up, walked, and got out of the shade.
Another day, a man named Bwanda and his wife came to see the Prophet.
The crowd was so dense they were having a hard time reaching the Prophet
but somehow though, by force they could tailor a way to reach to the
Prophet.
The man says, “Simon, Prophet of God, I have come because my son who is
sleeping needs your mercy so he will live.”15
The Prophet coughed and the child opened his eyes, and stared in the sky.
Simon says, “In the name of Jesus Christ, get up!”
With that command, the child got up, and was healed. Simon says to the
father and mother, “In the name of Christ get up and glorify God for what has happened to your child.”
In the morning, a child named Nzedi was brought in. His father was named
Mayonga and they came from Congo-Brazzaville.16

The father said, “We came to bring you our kid, but he died on our way here. Have pity on us that our child comes back to life and can be breast-
fed.”
The Prophet laid his hands on the child and suddenly the child was revived.
The child started breast-feeding, completely cured.
In the evening, as the sun was going down, another child was brought in. He
was the son of Masamuna and Lusala. The child name was Dinampovele.
When they arrived to the village, they made their way through the crowd to
see Simon. Arriving in front of the Prophet, they said to him, “When we arrived in the village of Kitumba, our child died.”
Simon redresses himself, coughs and says, “Child, get up!”
The child regained life and started breast-feeding from his mother. They left
extremely happy.
Another woman from the village of Kilau came with her child. The mother’s
name is Kikeka. She said, “My child died. I would like for him to live.” Then, Simon took the child and says, “Child, get up!”
With that command, the child got up, and was healed. Simon says to the
father and mother, “In the name of Christ get up and glorify God for what has happened to your child.”

At once, the child got up and the mother was joyful. The crowd praised the
Lord for this miracle.
A Mongala17 woman came. She said, “Me, I have been suffering from a severe loss of blood for the past year and half. I am not getting any better. I have
taken all the medicines you can think of to no avail. I therefore came to be
rescued and healed.”
Simon says, “In the name of Jesus Christ that the sources of the disease stop.” Immediately, she stops bleeding. This woman’s name was nGalula. She came from Leopoldville.”18
Another day, a woman from mBanza Kongo19 was brought in to see the
Prophet.” She was laid in front of the Prophet.
“For the past five years, I cannot get up. Now, I have come to see you, trustfully, and I hope to get up.” Simon says to her, “Get up, in the name of Jesus Christ.” The woman tried to get up but couldn’t. Simon says, “Get up, in the name of Christ.” The lady tried again but she couldn’t. She tried altogether three times to no avail.
The lady lifted her eyes up, looked up in the sky, and said, “Oh God, my father, everybody is standing up here. I have witnessed it, only I couldn’t get up. If I committed a sin that I’ve forgotten, I implore you God, have pity of me, since I couldn’t get up. What misery would this cause to the people who carried me all the way from Kongo dia Totela to here?”
In saying so, she was heavily crying and at the same time saying, “God has pity of me.” Simon took her by her arms and said, “Go, because your faith has saved you.” He said at the same time to the surrounding people, “Take her by her arms.” The people took her and helped her walk. The woman
said, “Let me walk by myself, because the strength came back to me!” She walked alone.

In the evening, another woman from Sona Bata came to see the Prophet,
who has just noticed that the lady was suffering with a disease that the
Kongo people call matadi.20
She says, “For the past eight years, I can’t get up. Now that I am a believer, when Passover arrives, I ask to be brought to the entry of the house of
prayer to receive communion. I came to be healed.”
Simon Kimbangu said, “In the name of Christ, as it was done other times by
Peter and John, get up!” Thereafter, the lady got up and left.
Another day, a man from a village called Luozi was brought to the Prophet.
His parents said that the man was dead for two days. Having heard that
there was a man in the village of Kamba that could wake up the dead in the
name of God, they walked to bring him to the Prophet. Arriving in the
proximity of the village where the Prophet was, the man woke up, but he
