The Mauryan Government
• Chandragupta Forges an Empire:• Chandragupta Maurya was a young
adventurer and he forged the first Indian empire. (The Mauryan Empire)
• He first gained power In the Ganges valley• Chandragupta Conquered northern India• The Mauryan empire was a bureaucracy.• Chandragupta's rule was very effective.
The Mauryan Government
• Asoka rules by moral example• Asoka was Chandragupta's grandson• Asoka fought in a war for the Deccan region.• After the war he converted to Buddhism.• Asoka sent our missionaries to spread
Buddhism throughout India.• Asoka built stone pillars.
The Mauryan Government
• Division and Disunity set in• After Asoka's death the Mauryan power
declined.• The people started to separate.• Conquerors came over the mountains borders
and attempted to capture them.• After the decline of the Mauryan power the
Deccan was divided into many kingdoms.
Kingdoms of the Deccan
• Each kingdom had its own capital.• The people of the Deccan were Dravidians.• Over the centuries Hindu and Buddhist , and
Sanskrit writing drifted south. • Deccan rulers usually tolerated other peoples
religions.
The Tamil Kingdom
• The Tamil Kingdom was part of India.
• Tamil rulers used over seas trading
• The Tamil kingdoms left a rich and diverse in literature.
