Plein AirEnjoy the beautiful homes and gardens and watch professional artists create original works while you tour. Plein Air is an expression which means “in the open air” and is particularly used to de-scribe the act of painting outdoors. Plein air paintings are valued for capturing natural light and color and reproducing the actual visual conditions seen at the time of the painting.

SPECIAL THANKS TO:OASIS
FLORAL PRODUCTS
A Letter from the President..... Welcome to the Hudson Garden Club’s 72nd annual Home and Garden Tour and thank you for joining us. Each year, the tour offers attendees a unique opportunity to explore beautiful homes and gardens within Hudson. This year’s properties are sure to provide you with inspiration and ideas. Our tour is possible through the generosity of the homeowners who share their homes and gardens with you and we extend a special ‘thank you’ to all of them. As you visit each property, we know you’ll feel the commitment and love homeowners have for their homes and gardens. Be sure to look for the beautiful floral arrangements in the homes which have been created by Hudson Garden Club’s very talented team of floral designers primarily using flowers and plants from Hudson gardens. A big thank you to the advertisers and sponsors of this year’s Home and Garden Tour. As you explore Hudson, please consider visiting them and check for ‘special offerings’ such as a free gift or discount. Many thanks also to Lake Forest Country Club for the luncheon opportunity provided during the tour at their lovely setting. Please visit the Hudson Middle School on N. Oviatt St. where you will find our Garden Shop. We have a variety of plants, garden art, gently used gardening items, and other garden-related gifts available for sale. The Garden Shop is open until 5 pm both Thursday and Friday. Also located at the Middle School from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm is complimentary iced tea and homemade cookies in the Tea Room. The perfect spot to relax for just a bit as you continue to enjoy Hudson and experience its beauty and heritage. Your attendance at our Tour makes possible the financial support that the Hudson Garden Club provides each year for tree planting in Hudson, scholarships for college students studying subjects in the environmental sciences, grants to fund projects or programs to organizations in the greater Hudson area that fulfill the mission of the Club, youth programs, mentoring workshops and community beautification projects. For more information about the Hudson Garden Club, please visit our website at www.hudsongardenclub.org. Finally, a very special thanks to the Tour Committee, the Hudson Garden Club members and the hundreds of volunteers from the community who have donated uncountable hours for this event. This event is not possible without their dedication and commitment each year.

GARDEN SHOP The Garden Shop is open to the public from 10:00-5:00 both Thursday & Friday. No need to have a ticket to visit the beautifully transformed Middle School Commons. This year the shop has hand selected, locally grown perennials, many which may be featured in the Tour gardens. You will be able to shop unique containers bursting with color, fresh floral arrangements, gardening supplies, gardening books, gently used purses, jewelry and decorating items. Once again, we will feature the one of a kind glass fascinators for your garden, beautifully crafted by a club member. Also, the “From My Garden to Your Garden “ tradition continues with assorted plants for sale from members’ personal gardens at much below retail prices. This is a must-see shop. Cash, check, and credit cards will be accepted. In addition, your purchases can be held for you each day until 5:00 pm.

A Friendship Garden! The concept is appealing; the reality is even better. For more than 40 years the owners of this special homestead have been creating a unique outdoor living space. Their gardens showcase treasured plants, shrubs, trees and garden accents shared by family, friends and students. Not immediately obvious from the front, when you enter the property in back of the house you are transported into a personal environment that is interesting, imaginative and inviting.Distance from stop #7 to stop #8: 2 milesHead Hostesses: Daniela Baloi & Sue L’Hommedieu

GARDENErik & Jan Lindstrom2499 Blue Heron Drive
These original homeowners started their landscape with a blank slate 32 years ago, not a single plant or tree. Since then, various plantings have transformed the space into a beautiful shade garden. This garden reflects their love of hydrangeas and impatiens. Favorite perennial plantings of theirs include a variety of hosta, astilbe, nettle, bleeding heart, Jack Frost Bruneian and many others. Recent additions to the garden include an outdoor living and entertaining area with a fire pit and bluestone seating. Two rock fountains highlight the garden with each stone shipped from the mountains of Albuquerque, NM and hand-carved by artisan Joshua Gannon.Distance from stop #6 to stop #7: 1.4 milesHead Hostess: Karie Staudt

The home of Grace and Bob Sauer is located on a very scenic setting backing up to the beautiful Western Reserve Academy (WRA) grounds with views of the well-known WRA “hockey pond”. Built around 1934, the Sauer’s moved into the home in 1973. They added several lovely additions on to the home including the great room and first floor master bedroom and bath. Everywhere you look, you will see that the home is filled with the love of many things, including family, art, travel, and cooking, just to name a few. Enjoy the beautiful collection of artwork, including many painted by the homeowner himself. Notable statuary, pottery, and antiques are also placed thoughtfully throughout the home. GARDENBill & Kathy McCord2074 Jesse Drive
The McCord Garden is a multilayered delight and a sly reminder of the challenges all gardeners face. Entry from the gate or enclosed porch reveals a quiet, shaded, restful plot with a lovely central fountain as centerpiece. Beyond, the eye is led to sunny, open meadow, “Borrowed Landscape”. Between are pleasing, meandering, strolling paths winding through raised beds of annuals, small sculptural vignettes and varied shade beds. The McCords started with densely shaded, compacted clay, stripped of topsoil. Not a promising garden site! In creating this beautiful garden; they learned gardening the hard way, as most of us do!Distance from stop #5 to stop #6: 1.6 milesHead Hostesses: Beverly Brown & Kathleen Mowinski

Bought by the Cleveland family in 2013, this 1963 colonial was completely transformed into a modern version of a traditional house. They added on, bumped out, reconfigured, updated, replaced, and reworked the floor plan all with an eye for architectural details combined with artistic vision. The transformation can be seen from the front entrance all the way to the beautiful backyard terrace. This three bedroom, Victorian style century home was built in 1873. The restoration and updates to the home done throughout its nearly 150-year history acknowledge the home’s past by preserving many of its original features. The blending of the old and the new in both the renovations and additions to the home, as well as the owners’ furnishings and decorative objects, have resulted in a charming, comfortable, and livable home for a young modern- day family, all while remaining true to the home’s original character.Distance from stop #4 to stop #5: 2.4 milesHead Hostesses: Sherry Beam & Mary GalloFloral Arrangers: Alice Caniglia, Betsy Brennan, Faye Duber & Jan Schrader

HOMETony & Deb Bish139 Old Orchard Drive
Constructed in 1963, this home was designed by Architect RH Derr. The Bishes renovated and built in a Federalist style. The exterior is classic – lap siding, window symmetry, white window trim, fascia and bold corner pilasters. In the interior there are many built-ins – a front stair curio cabinet displays family wedding photos. In 1963 the Spearmans (original owners) asked local artist Virginia Ellis to paint a full-wall mural. Virginia suggested a Chinese motif. “Ginny”, after working at the WRA library, would come to paint. The mural became a family heirloom and remains.
