Mission Statement
OrgCom Associates exists to manage and facilitate effective communication strategies to help clients achieve their goals. OrgCom Associates strives to understand the full capacity of their clients and present them to the public in a way that will represent a positive image. In doing so, OrgCom believes in the effective practices of social responsibility.
We have an extensive history in coordinating and planning activities to help exercise the skills needed to implement socially responsible practices in an organization, as well as educating clients on reasons for social responsibility among businesses and organizations. Our practices have proved to be motivational and inspiring to many organizations. OrgCom Associates exists to help organizations rise to their full potential on a social responsibility scale.

Executive Summary
The Public Relations Society of America has requested a proposal for a retreat that will inform its members of the International Standardization of Corporate Social Responsibility (ISO 26000). The following proposal contains materials regarding information and activity sessions planned for the retreat, as well as travel and accommodation information necessary for the PRSA to fully evaluate the quality and relevance of our retreat in respect to their business needs.
As economics are becoming more globally oriented, and our environment is going through changes unseen in the past, it is more essential than ever to raise awareness of corporate social responsibility, and the importance of successfully implementing such practices. OrgCom Associates has designed a detailed retreat addressing the main themes of the ISO 26000, with the aim of arming the PRSA attendees with knowledge on how to bring these principles and ideas back to their respected businesses.
A large focus of the retreat is on implementation. In today’s society sustainability and social responsibility are becoming more prominent in business agendas, however the key to successfully transforming a business into one of social responsibility is the implementation process. What good is knowledge if it cannot be effectively implemented? Our sessions focus not only on the knowledge of the ISO 26000, but on how turn the knowledge into efficient polices that can be applied properly in a business setting.

Speaker Session:General
OrientationSavitz will explain sustainability and the impact it is having on both small and large businesses. He presents the business case for finding the “sweet spot,” where business needs intersect with those of society and the environment. He will explain how well known companies are implementing efficient sustainable practices, while providing some tools on how other businesses can go green as well.

• 20 years of experience assisting corporations in becoming leaders in sustainability and environmental performance and reporting. In 2005 he opened a consulting firm to help companies implement and perform in these areas.

This session will be conducted by a member of OrgCom Associates, and will be geared toward teaching attendees how they can bring sustainable business practices back to their organizations. We will address different ways that businesses can become more energy and resource efficient, as well as hold discussions on how these practices can be easily implemented into businesses, and how to manage these changes in an organization’s budget.

An important aspect to social responsibility is values, morals, and ethical responsibility within the workplace and the community. This session will observe ethics through case studies and simulations. The entire retreat group will split into 5-6 small groups. Each group will read, discuss, and chose the best way to handle their ethical dilemmas. Their decisions will be presented to the other groups, followed by a Q&A session. The session will conclude with a general discussion of ethics in the workplace and how it effects employees.

Activity Session
Location: Yale/ PrincetonTime: Wed. 7:00 – 8:00 PM
In this session, attendees will learn about three different local Ithaca charities: Sciencecenter, Educate the Children-Nepal, and Cayuga Nature Center. Representatives from each charity will give a 10-minute presentation about the mission of their organization. The idea is to stress the importance of supporting charities and their work. Businesses can donate to charities that serve causes related to their business as well as others. This gives companies a good public image; as well as allowing them to work toward making a better society, which in turn supports their business.

The Leadership “Race”Presented by:Alex Silverman
Activity Session
Location: Yale / PrincetonTime: Wed. 7:00 – 8:00 PM
This is a twenty-minute information and activity session on the power of leading. Participants will compete in a leadership race. Each person will begin at the start line. The conductor of the session will read a statement, if it holds true to an individual; that person will take one step forward. The first person to reach the finish line wins the race and is the “ultimate leader.” The race is followed by a short debrief session analyzing the importance of this activity and what should be take from it

Activity Session
Location: Yale / PrincetonTime: Tues. 8:00 – 9:00 PM
As one of our initial activities, this presents our guests with an opportunity to meet one another and build connections. All attendees will be broken up into three smaller groups and put in different conference rooms. The activity works like speed dating with half the participants stationary and the other half rotating every five minutes. A bell will sound to start and stop each individual session. During the five minutes participants will have discussions with each other (where they’re from, what they do, where they work, etc.). This activity is done for the purpose of networking and introducing attendees so everyone is more acquainted. 27

Activity Session
Location: Yale Princeton Pennsylvania
Time: Wed 10:00 - 11:45 AM
This activity gives PRSA members the opportunity to interact with one another on a more creative level. Using arts and crafts material provided by OrgCom Associates, participants will use the available materials to alter or recreate a usual office object to be more sustainably efficient. Participants will work in groups and pair communication skills with creativity to complete the object within a 10-minute time frame. The smallest, most over-looked objects can inspire creativity and be put to positive use.

Blindfold TrustPresented by:Ryan Gilpatrick
Activity Session
Location: Yale Princeton Pennsylvania
Time: Wed. 10 - 11:45 AM
Participants will split into groups of two and a blindfold will be distributed to each pair. Within each pair, partners will take turns wearing the blindfold and giving guidance. While one partner wears a blindfold the other will guide the blinded partner through a simple obstacle course using only verbal instructions. The dual purpose of this activity is to both build trust and demonstrate the importance of trust. The obstacle course will be handicapped accessible.

This brainstorming activity will allow participants to create goals based on the SMART guideline: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time frame. It’s a good strategy for businesses to use to break down the implementation of an idea. Both short term and long-term goals can be applied to any organization or workplace.
