The Edict of Milan The Story

There were once two emperors named Constantine and Licinius. Constantine was the western emperor of Rome. Licinius was the eastern emperor of Rome. It was in the summer of the year 313 and they met up for

the marriage between Licinius and Constantine's half sister, Constantia. They used this as a reason to discuss matters of state and agreed on a policy of religion. There was a letter sent in the east, Asia minor, and Syna, they granted Christians the rights to their property. This letter was called, "The Edict of Milan." This involved all religions, not just Christianity. Religious freedom became more open and gave them legal rights and property rights. The Edict of Milan marked the beginning of the church's entanglement with the state.
