Capital budgeting is one o a CFOs most undamental
responsibilities. It involves analyzing investment opportunities and
deciding which ones to take. In recent years, a number o new
tools, many o which have arisen rom research at the University o
Chicago, have been developed to assist in the investment evaluation
process, expanding upon the standard discounted cash fow
approach. This session presents a case study and lecture illustrating
their use and highlighting their eectiveness. The insights gained in
this session can be remarkable, compared to traditional methods.

George Wu studies the psychology o individual,
managerial, and organizational decision

in bargaining and negotiation. Wus research
has been published widely in a number o
journals in economics, management science, and
psychology, including Cognitive Psychology, the
Journal o Personality and Social Psychology, the
Journal o Risk and Uncertainty, Management
Science, Psychological Science, and the Quarterly
Journal o Economics.
Prior to joining the Chicago Booth aculty in
1997, Wu was on the aculty o Harvard Business
School as an assistant and associate proessor in
the managerial economics area and then in the
negotiation and decision making group. He also
has worked as a lecturer at Wharton School at
the University o Pennsylvania. Prior to graduate
school, Wu worked as a decision analyst at
Procter & Gamble.
