Inconjunctionwiththesponsorshipannouncement,theCCAhasalsoagreedtoteamwithCapitalOnetodevelopandexpandtheCapitalOneRocks&Ringsprogram,oneofseveraldevelopmentprogramssupportedbytheCCAtointroducethesporttochildrenandunderrepresentedgroupsacrossCanada.

TheCapitalOneRocks&Ringsprogramisdesignedtointroduceschoolchildrentocurling.Byusinguniquefloorcurlingequipment,thestudentsexperienceahigh-energy,fun-filledsession,whilealsolearningaboutthesportintheirowngymnasium.Itisintendedtoexposethesporttochildrenandfamilieswhowouldnototherwisehavehadtheopportunity,withtheultimategoalbeingincreasedparticipation.

NEW PROGRAM HELPS KIDS GET ACTIVE

CapitalOneRocks&Ringsprogrambringscurlingtoinner-cityGTAschools.Toronto,ON(February2,2009)–TheCapitalOneRocks&RingsprogramlaunchedthismorninginanefforttogetGTAyouthmovingduringtheschoolday.Thisnewprogramalsowillexposecurlingtochildrenandfamiliesthatwouldotherwisenotreceivetheopportunity,withtheultimategoalbeingincreasedparticipationinthesport.Theprogramwillbeofferedatnochargetotheparticipatingchildren.

TORONTO-AREA KIDS LEARN TO GIVE AS WELL AS RECEIVE

InauguralrecipientsoftheCapitalOneNationalJuniorGolfAcademyScholarshiplookforwardtothefuture.Toronto,ON(August31,2009)–TheNationalJuniorGolfAcademy(NJGA)isproudtopartnerwithCapitalOneCanadatoprovidescholarshipopportunitiestoexemplaryTorontoteensfromeconomicallychallengedareaswiththedesiretoachieve.Thefirstthreerecipientsofthescholarshipprogramhavealsocommittedtogivebacktothecommunityduringtheiruniversitycareer.

ALMOST A QUARTER OF A MILLION CHILDREN MISSED OUT ON A HEALTHY MEAL BECAUSE OFFRAUDSTERS

NewsurveyfindsgenerousCanadianswanttogive,butarevulnerabletofraud.Toronto,ON(December3,2009)–Thisholidayseason,twooutofthreeCanadians(66%)plantomakeadonation,butthemajority(51%)areconcernedaboutbecomingavictimtoafraudsterrepresentingafalsecharity.

In2007-2008,theCanadianAnti-FraudCallCentre(PhoneBusters)reportedthatover$328,000ofcharitablecontributionswentintothepocketsoffraudstersratherthangoingtocharitiesinneed.Thatamountcouldhaveboughtover240,000healthymealsforunderprivilegedandhomelessyouthifgiventoalegitimatecharity,accordingtoBrownBaggingitforCalgary'sKids.

ThesurveycommissionedbyCapitalOneCanada,inpartnershipwithCanadahelps.organdVolunteerCanada,foundthat18%ofCanadianshavebeenavictimorknowsomeonewhohasbeenavictimofafraudsterrepresentingafalsecharity.ThegoodnewsisthatmanyCanadians(96%)donotgiveintohighpressuretacticsanddonotgivetheirfinancialinformationtosolicitors.
