THINKING ABOUT FIBRES

Unravel one to find out, what do you see?

• If you were to look at your closet at home, what would your closet be made up of? Natural fibres? Manufactured fibres?

Page 3: Textile Fibres

• What are Fibres?

• A Fibre is the basic unit that makes fabric. It’s usually grouped and twisted together to form a continuous strand, called a yarn. Yarns can be woven or knitted together to make fabric.

• Fibres are classified according to their source or origin. Natural fibres come from natural sources, such as plants and animals.

WHEN MANUFACTURED AND NATURAL FIBRES MEET

• http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3p3-vl9VFYU• 6 mins 41 secs• Now we are coming to the point where we can

manufacture “natural” threads. • Fibre: Bacterial Cellulose

• What would you choose to grow? Do you see this as a viable option for fashion in the future?
