A Prayer For “Renew My Church” Lord Jesus, you speak to us today, as you spoke to holy
men and women who have gone before us. In every age and in our own time, you call to us and
say: Renew My Church. Pour out the gift of your Holy Spirit upon us, and so
enable us to hear you clearly
to listen to each other attentively to imagine our future boldly to discern your direction
wisely to persevere in your holy will courageously to stay together in charity to surrender our own plans
readily to embrace the greater good to hand on your gifts to future generations.
May we remain in the holy company of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the apostles,
and all the saints. May their example and presence inspire us with patient
confidence in the work of your grace. We ask this of you who live and reign
with the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen

A Prayer as the Covid-19 Death Toll Mounts
By Alden Solovy
God of consolat ion, Surely you count in heaven,
Just as we count here on earth, In shock and in sorrow,
The souls sent back to You, One-by-one,
The dead from the Covid pandemic , As the ones become tens ,
The tens become hundreds, The hundreds become thousands ,
The thousands become ten-thousands And then hundred-thousands ,
Each soul , a heartbreak, Each soul , a l i fe denied.
God of wisdom,
Surely in the hal l s of div ine just ice You are assembl ing the courts ,
Cal l ing witnesses to test i fy , To proclaim
The compass ion of some, And the ca l lousness of others ,
As we’ve struggled to cope. The souls taken too soon,
Whose funerals were lonely , Who didn’t need to d ie ,
Who died a lone, Wil l te l l the ir s tories
When You judge Our tr iumphs
And our fa i lures In these hours of need.
God of heal ing,
Put an end to th is pandemic, And al l i l lness and disease .
Bless those who s tand in service to humanity .
Bless those who s tand in service to humanity .
Bless those who grieve . Bless the dead,
So that their souls are bound up. In the bond of l i fe e ternal .
And grant those s t i l l a f f l ic ted With disease or trauma
A completed and last ing heal ing, One-by-one,
Unt i l suffer ing ceases , And we can stop count ing the dead,
In heaven And on earth.

Hey, Kids! January 24, 2021 When was the last time you were busy doing something and someone called you to do something else and you willingly stopped what you were doing to answer their call? I know in my house, it takes a few attempts to get my family’s attention…and then maybe a threatening tone to my voice to REALLY get them moving. It’s hard to just stop doing something that we are working on. If we stop, it may prevent us from completing whatever it is that we were working on. If we are having fun, it is even harder to stop what we are doing to do something else. Whenever I read this story in the Gospel of Mark, I am always amazed at how the men stopped fishing to follow Jesus. They didn’t argue with Jesus about where they were going or why they needed to stop, they just obeyed him. Fishing was how they earned a living and how they kept from being hungry. So, Jesus asking them to stop fishing was something that would change their life completely. These men fished for food to survive. Jesus was telling them to stop doing that so that they could help him teach others about God – and they obeyed. That is pretty amazing, if you ask me. This story tells us that these men had complete faith in Jesus. They truly believed he was the Son of God because they obeyed his call. They did not question what he asked them to do because they knew He had everything they needed. It may be hard to believe but Jesus calls us each day to stop what we are doing and pray. Each and every day. Before we dig in to our delicious meals, take a hard test at school or get tucked in at night; Jesus is asking us to STOP and pray. He calls us to help those in need – STOP what you are doing and lend a helping hand. He wants us to practice our faith but also talk about it with others. Maybe you have a friend that celebrates Christmas but never goes to church? This would be a good time to invite them to start attending mass. Tell them to start going to church so that Christmas 2021, their hearts and minds will be prepared for Jesus. When we invite others to be a part of the Christian faith, we are being fishers of men! Which means, we are bringing in people to fully embrace the Word of God. Wouldn’t it be great to help a friend find God’s grace? Do you think you can stop what you are doing to help those that do not have Jesus in their lives? I believe that you can do it! I believe that Jesus has called us ALL to help him spread the Word of God! Let this year be a time of fulfillment! Amen.
More Alumni on the Honor Roll! Congratulations to Class of 2020 graduate Leticia Guzman who made the 2020-21 First Semester Honor Roll at Marist High School! We also congratulate these Annunciata grads who also made the honor roll: Kristen Araujo, Sara Araujo and Tatiana Molina.
