Speech on Teachers day 2015, Dr. Ganesh Kame, Professor
Department of Civil Engineering, M H Saboo Siddik College of
Engineering, Mumbai.
On occasion of Teachers Day I would like to say that teachers are known to
be the second parents. Parents provide us moral education and teachers
provide us rest of the knowledge necessary for living and knowing the world.
The student’s relationship with the professor determines the grade and
academics of the student. Teachers control the destiny of the students for
more than two decades. Ultimately, the product comes out. The way the
professor has shaped the mind and creativity of the student then seen.
Therefore celebration of the Teachers day is the occasion for expressing
gratitude and giving honor to all such teachers who taught you directly or
indirectly.
I hope that celebrating teachers day will also help in developing a positive
professor student relationship. A professor is also a guide, a friend, a
counselor and a philosopher. Teaching learning process involves a professor
and a student. It is very important for both of them to have a healthy
relationship in order to carry out the teaching learning process smoothly.
If the professor student relationship is to be maximally productive, must
reflect certain attitudes and commitments of each to the other. First, the
student must respect his or her professor and hold him in the highest
esteem. Even though this instruction may be uncomfortable and disturbing
at times, but a professor always wants his student to do good. All the time,
the professor looks forward to improve his student and polish the creativity
in the student. The student must commit himself to follow the instruction
with utmost discipline, just as physicians prescription, must be followed
precisely, because failure to do so could cause harm, In the same way
professor’s advices must be obeyed with equal sincerity. A professor is the
student’s path finder. When we need to moveon or are stuck with something,
professor helps us find the way.
Professors also have certain responsibility towards the students, as they are
the path leaders; they are to lead the students towards the right way in a
right manner. I can tell all of you that all civil engineering professors in our
college are equally dedicated and caring to all of you, and you must feel
fortunate to have such professors.
On this occasion I would like to tell you a short storey.
There was a man who was selling balloons at a fair. He had all colors of
balloons, including red, yellow, blue, and green. Whenever selling was slow,
he would release a helium-filled balloon into the air and when the childrens
saw it go up, they all wanted to buy one. They would come up to him, buy a
balloon, and his sales would go up again. He continued this process all day.
One day, he felt someone pulling his jacket. He turned around and saw a
little boy who asked, "If you release a black balloon, would that also fly?" The
man replied with understanding, "Son, it is not the color of the balloon, it is
what is inside that makes it go up."
The same thing applies to our lives. It is what is inside those counts. The
thing inside of us that makes us go up is our attitude. Have you ever
wondered why some individuals, organizations, or countries are more
successful than others?
It is not a secret. These people simply think and act more effectively. They
have learned how to do so by investing in the most valuable asset--people. I
believe that the success of an individual, organization or country, depends
on the quality of their people.
I hope that you will also work with equal dedication and positive attitude to
make our institute and country proud and make the organization successful
for which you might be working. Thanks, happy teachers day to all.
