Elaine Provenzano will explore how E.T.A. Hoffman’s

The Nutcracker and the Mouseking (1816), and its

adaptation by Alexandre Dumas in Tales of the

Nutcracker (1844,) inspired one of Tchaikovsky’s

most renowned pieces, The Nutcracker (1892), a

holiday favorite for more than a century.
