—¡¿Maltratáis a los habitantes del lugar que os da la vida?! —les gritó a los chiquillos mientras estos huían—. ¡Habéis de saber que uno recibe del mar lo que a este le da, así que tened cuidado la próxima vez que salgáis a pescar!

****‘Are you harming the inhabitants of the place thatprovide you with life?’, he screamed to the young boys while they were running away. ‘You must knowthat one gets from the sea what he gives to it, so becareful the next time you go fishing!’

Magullada pero a salvo, Taro la empujó hasta la orilla y la gran tortuga pudo volver a su hogar, no sin antes volverse para mirar por última vez a su salvador.

****Bruised but alive, Taro pushed it to the shore and the big turtle could come back home, after turning back to look at the rescuer for the last time.

Taro era un hombre honesto y bondadoso, que amaba a todas las criaturas del océano. Por eso, pese a su pobreza, no podía aprovecharse de un animal indefenso ni pescar más de lo que realmente necesitaba.

****Taro was an honest and generous man, who loved all the creatures in the ocean. For that reason, despite his poverty, he could not take advantage of a vulnerable animal nor fishing more than he really needed.

—Mantente lejos de los hombres, amiga mía —le dijo.

****’Keep off the men, mydear friend’, he said.

Con curiosidad, Taro accedió a la propuesta que le hacía la tortuga y sobre su espalda viajaron a través de las aguas.

****With curiosity, Taro accepted the turtle’s offer and they started the journey through the waters.

Al principio Taro pasó mucho miedo, pues pensaba que se iba a ahogar si no podía respirar, pero por arte de magia sintió que el agua se transformaba en aire en sus pulmones. El señor de los mares le había abierto las puertas de su palacio submarino sólo a él, y por ello ahora podía respirar tal y como hacían los peces.

****Taro was very scared at first, as he thought he was going to drown if he couldn’t breathe, but as if by magic he felt that the water became air in his lungs. The lord of the seas had opened the gate of his undersea palace only to him, and for that reason he could now breathe as fish did.

La partida fue muy dura y todos los habitantes del casti-llo se despidieron de él con pesar. A lomos de la tortuga, Urashima recorrió otra vez el camino de vuelta, lejos de su amor y su nueva vida.

****The departure was very emotive and all the inhabitants in the castle went to see him off with sadness. Riding the turtle, Urashima made the journey back, far away from his lover and his new life.
