A Message From the Principal Dear Parents/Guardians
Welcome back! Happy New Year to all our families and all the best in 2015!
Before the holiday break, Woodland P.S. held a food drive for Holiday Heroes in
support of local food banks. Families were very generous and we had a great response. Thank
you for your support of this initiative and for translating our December Character Trait of
Empathy into action. When we work together, rich learning opportunities happen for kids!
As we begin the New Year, I look forward to meeting more of the wonderful families
here at Woodland and working together to support the students for their continued success.
Yours in education, Mme Veronica St. Pierre
Outdoor Recess in Cold Weather
The York Region District School Board is always concerned about the health and well-
being of all our students. One of the components of a healthy school culture includes
opportunities for fresh air and outdoor activities.
As with any condition at the school level, principals have discretion to implement
indoor recess breaks in cases of extreme cold and high wind chills.
At Woodland, we monitor the weather daily and make decisions appropriately for the
conditions. We feel it is important for children to get outside and enjoy the fresh air and have
a chance to move and run. We ask that you send your children to school dressed for the winter
weather – hats, boots, mitts and for younger children – snow pants. Thank you for your
cooperation.

2014-2015 Yearbook Photos Needed
Mme Moussay, Mme Valenzuela and Mme Witjes (all staff volunteers) are putting to-gether the 2014-2015 Yearbook. It will be a treasured memory for all the students and families to enjoy. The cost will range from $20-$25.00 depending on the number of pages we end up creating.
We are using Herff Jones Inc. Together we have set up an easy to use system for STU-DENTS/STAFF AND PARENTS to submit their jpeg photos i.e. special moments from field trips, presentations, dances, sports and clubs to the yearbook. Herff Jones has secure encrypted servers to protect the photos. The process is confidential and the pictures can only be viewed by the above named staff. To start downloading your pictures please go
to www.hjeshare.com <http://www.hjeshare.com> and the school code
is: woodland A complete flyer describing this e-share program for our yearbook can be found on our school website under School Forms “E Share Woodland PS Herff
Transportation and Busing—Winter
School bus service may be cancelled from time to time due to inclement weather, extreme tem-
peratures and/or poor road conditions. In these cases, parents and students should plan ahead for
alternate care/transportation arrangements.
If buses are cancelled in the morning, they will not operate in the afternoon.
If you transport your child in the morning you will need to pick them up at
the end of the day.
YRDSB cancellation decisions are made through consultation with school bus companies servicing
York Region. Decisions are based on several factors including precipitation, air temperature and
road conditions. A decision to cancel school bus transportation may be system wide (where all
buses in York Region are cancelled) or municipality specific (where buses in one or more munici-
palities are cancelled).
Please note the following:
Parents, students and school staff are asked to access the following radio and

mation and to register their daughters. Please be advised that
all registration occurs online and that once the team has filled,
