Thomas J. McKillen.
The Sussex Village Board approved a zoning andcertified survey map request related to the Meijer retaildevelopment March 26.
Meijer is planning for a 191,000- square foot facilityat the southeast corner of Hwys. K and 164.
The village recently annexed land near the southeastcorner of Hwy. 164 and Lisbon Road. When it wasannexed, the property received a temporary zoning in theB-2 Regional Business District and the Rs-3 Single FamilyResidential District. A portion of the property is also in theSecondary Environmental Corridor designation.
During a public hearing, Brian Randall, an attorneyfor Meijer, said the company supported the petition.Randall explained that under the village ordinance, theproperty owner is required to come to the village within ayear of a property being attached to the village and seek-ing a permanent zoning classification.
We simply, even though we have a year to do it,wanted to do it right away with all the other approvalsand applications before you, Randall said.
Randall said the proposal accommodates the Meijerdevelopment and the residences for the Schellin family. He said the overlay conservancy district will address asecondary environment corridor in the area.
Steven Schellin also expressed support for therequest.
We have gone through all the processes and weurge your approval so we can complete this project in a

A recent case of cat hoarding inWaukesha County has led HAWS, the
umane Animal Welfare Society ofWaukesha County, to ask for the communi-
s help, and for residents to take action toevent further occurrences of animal hoard-g.
When is "many" considered too many?nimal hoarding, as defined in this circum-
ance, is when an owner/caretaker hasore pets than they are able to care foroperly. HAWS Spay-Neuter Initiativeogram (SNIP) and Project Guardian bothfer free or low-cost surgeries to communitysidents, effectively decreasing cat over-opulation.
HAWS stresses the need for communityvolvement to help eliminate future hoard-g cases. Notes Executive Director, Lynnlenik: "People often dont find out until thenimals start to suffer."
Rather than allowing a situation toecome uncontrolled, HAWS and
Waukesha social service representatives askny resident of the County, concerned thatmeone may have too many pets, to seek
elp for that person. Reports can be made toAWS at 262-542-8851 or the Department
Health and Human Services at 262-548-212 or 211.HAWS is caring for nearly 50 cats that
ere surrendered by a single Waukeshaounty resident. Olenik says the shelter iseating all those we feel we can help. Mostthe cats were ill and suffering, and livingdeplorable conditions."Olenik stated as the cats are stabilized
ey will be placed up for adoption. Untilat time, the shelter needs the communityssistance with donations of cat food, cat lit-r and towels. Residents are also asked toonate money towards medications for treat-g upper respiratory infections and foreworming, and to sponsor spay-neuter sur-eries for these cats all costly items forAWS to sustain. Donations may beopped at the Family Pet Clinic at N73

Tip of the Week: Because cats don't run up to their owners with balls in their mouths, many peopleassume that they don't want or need to be played with at all. On the contrary, cats need exercise and a lotof mental stimulation.Without it, they can get bored and develop behavior problems.

Drs. Richard and Bruce
Dear Dr. Winter, I am a new (complete) denturewearer. How can I determine what proper fittingdentures "should" look, fit and feel like? Neither mytop, nor bottom fit. My top denture doesn't seem to goup far enough and has about a 1/4" gap whereEVERYTHING (including saliva) goes under mydenture(s) regardless of the denture adhesive I use. They don't line-up, my smile is "lop-sided" and I can'teat. Should my top denture go all the way up to thetop/have a gap or be flush? Thanks!
Dear Kathy, I am sorry you are having problems. The easiest way to answer your question is to say I
have to look at your dentures to evaluate the size of theperipheries, the seal in the palatal area and the retentionof the new denture. Dentures should fit intimately tothe palate. They should not have a gap that is felt withthe tongue. If the denture is extended too far to the backof your mouth it is possible to feel a gap if your softpalate is covered as your soft palate moves duringspeech and swallowing. If the top denture doesn't seemto go up high enough the dentist needs to evaluate itand make sure there is a good fit and it has beentrimmed properly to insure the denture is fully seated. If it is not all the way down, a proper adjustment couldallow it to seat further. In the absence of good fit thedenture may need to be relined where a new impressionis taken in the denture and it is sent to the lab to haveadditional acrylic added to the inside of the denture. Ifyou can't eat the dentures are not done. I always tellpatients the day they take my dentures home they areonly half done! The final adjustments to your fit andbite will help insure they are optimal. If they don't lineup--and your smile is lop-sided you need to address thiswith your dentist so they can remedy the situation. Ifthe dentist did one or more try-in visits to check smiledisplay, alignment, bite then they should look greatnow. Please ask your dentist to address these itemsuntil you are satisfied. If not seek a second opinion.
Dear Dr. Winter, I had porcelain crowns done 4years ago and I am just not happy. There is now a spacebetween the teeth and they appear to be too yellowwhat should I do? Also a space opened up and I didn'twear the retainer I was given with the crowns.
Well, presumably you approved them before theywere cemented. Patients are always told that the colorof crowns will not change so they must approve the
shape and appearance prior to allocemented. It is much easier to havecolor of the crowns before they arego through the arduous task of cuttemporizing the teeth, making a neredoing the entire process. Not to mcrowns off of teeth is not a benignlead to further trauma to the structure and potentially causing resulting in one or more root canals
Not wearing a mouthguard in patients clench their teeth or grinallow teeth to move as well so nmouthguard can really change yousituations.
I would speak to your dentist anddo to rectify the situation. Dentists patients to leave happy!

Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Patoggensack was back on the campaignail with stops in Ozaukee County andermantown March 23, a day after shearticipated in a debate against her oppo-ent, Marquette University Law Professord Fallone.
Roggensack is seeking a second 10-ear term on the court.
In my view, the race is about experi-nce and judicial philosophy, Roggensack
id prior to speaking with supporters.Roggensack described the run for pub-
office as a job interview, and one inhich candidates describe their experi-nce and why they are qualified for theb.
Roggensack said probably 80 per-cent of the role of the state Supreme Courtjustice involves whether another judge orcourt properly applied the law.
Having been a judge for almost 17years now, Ive done the work of a judgeover and over and over, Roggensack said. When I review the work of another judge because thats what I do at the SupremeCourt, I know where to look I knowwhere they may have problems in the
record, I know what kinds of standards inthe review should have been applied to thecases. I can really give the public a muchmore thorough review of each casebecause of my past experience as ajudge.
While interpreting the law is key task ofthe court, how the court operates becamean issue following a heated disputebetween justices Ann Walsh Bradley andDavid Prosser in June 2011 in whichRoggensack got between the two other jus-tices.
Roggesack conceded the confrontationcaused a grievous injury to the court, andthere is repair work that needs to be donein regard to that. But on a daily basis, we
are getting our work out in a more timelyfashion than before, we are doing a num-ber of things to focus more fully on theneeds of the public.
This race is really not about the court. The race is about who is better qualified to
do the work of a SupremeRoggensack said.
Roggensack also describphilosophy.
My philosophy is set byConstitution. That constitutioas a member of the judicrespect for the other two brernment.
Roggensack explained tinterpret laws from the Legi
tent with the policy choice was making when they statute.

The possibility of the Menomonee Fallsnd Lannon fire departments consolidatingperations served as the basis for one ques-on during a Village Board candidate forum
Menomonee Falls High School March 25.Lannon and Menomonee Falls have
ntered formal negotiations to considerptions for shared fire services.
In the April 2 election, seat 4 incumbent
ichael McDonald is being challenged byremy Walz, seat 5 incumbent Jeff Steliga is
eing challenged by Bonnie Lemmer whileat 6 incumbent Steve Raymonds is running
nopposed.Forum moderator John Mercure asked
ed the negotiations to ask the candidates aoader question: Are you for or against theerger of municipal services with neighbor-g communities, and why?
I think its going to be inevitable.ommunities will have to merge, will have toare services, Raymonds said.
Raymonds noted that Menomonee Fallsprovide dispatch services for the Lannon
re Department in return for Lannon provid-g fire service to the southwest portion of
enomonee Falls. Its a good thing, I think well need too more, he said.
Raymonds said the combination ofcreased mandates and decreased statending is prompting a look at other ways toduce costs.
McDonald said the village is in the bestosition to look at such options due to thect the village has low debt and a highond rating. He said that gives the villageexibility to enhance current services.
McDonald said it is important for voters
to return experienced candidates with aproven track record that have the ability todeal with these types of issues, that have hadthe chance to be involved with these type ofdiscussions, to make sure we do maximizethe discussions that are presented and lookat all aspects of these mergers in a way inwhich you got experience and knowledge-able information at hand by experienced
and proven candidates.Walz said he supported merging fire
services while adding he would also want tosee the village Fire Department go to para-medic status.
I think the village can benefit from hav-ing a solid paramedic program, he said.
He added the village has an ability tobecome the best local fire department andattract quality candidates to our depart-ment.
Lemmer said the merging of municipalservices is something that is going to behappening on a continual basis as budgetsare tightened. She said merging servicescan only make those departments better inthe end.
Youre going to be attracting the best ofcommunities when you merge the services, she said.
Steliga said he is in favor of mergingservices as long as it saves money for us.
He added that the merging of services isgoing to be inevitable because of Act 10which limits revenue growth for municipali-ties.
We need to find more creative ways outof getting more with fewer dollars, he said.

By Craig W. ArmstrongSpring is here and everyone wants to
njoy the warmer weather that includes ani-
als. Each year, there are more than a mil-on auto accidents involving animals, ccounting for an estimated 10,000 injuriesnd 150 deaths each year. The averagemount of property damage caused by ani-al collisions is $2,500 per accident.
Where you live determines which ani-als you might encounter. Animals like deer, oose, elk, horse and cows often wandernto highways or roads. The most importantng a driver can do to stay safe is to beert.
Reducing your speed is key to avoidingn animal-related accident. The more timeou have to react, the better chance you willave of avoiding an accident. In areas ani-als are known to habitat, get into the habit
scanning the roadway. Use your high
beams whenever possible. This will help yousee the animals' eyes reflected in the light.
Keep in mind that many species of ani-
mals travel in groups. When you see onedeer bounding across the road, chances arethere will be several more following. Be extracautious when driving near farms, woodedareas, open fields and water. Many timesyou will see signs advising you of the ani-mals known to cross the road in that area.Take these signs seriously.
Make yourself known. Use your horn towarn the animal of your presence. Honkingyour horn is the most effective way to get theanimal's attention. If are in a situation wherean accident with an animal is inevitable, don't swerve. Swerving to avoid an animalcan cause more damage and injury than hit-ting the animal.
Apply the brakes hard, honk your horn

r out just to go to work, driving at a snail'sace and scraping, yes, the dreaded scraping.
While it's tempting to jump in your vehiclend enjoy the freedom that spring brings to driv-g, keep in mind that like you, your car has beenrough a lot over the winter. There are severalngs that need to be checked and prepared for
spring driving. Depending on your level of carmaintenance expertise, you may be able to domost of these things yourself. If not, have a pro-fessional take a look under the hood.
Begin where the rubber meets the road-yourtires. Check your tire pressure. The correct pres-sure will be printed on the tire in PSI (pounds persquare inch). If the tire is under the recommend-ed PSI, inflate it to that number...DON'T OVERINFLATE IT. This may also be a good time to getyour tires rotated. This should be done every5,000 to 10,000 miles.
For many areas, spring means rain so it's agood time to check your wiper blades. There are
few things more annoying than driving in the rainwith wiper blades that aren't doing their job. It'sfrustrating to have a big smear across your fieldof vision or a torn wiper blade trailing acrossyour windshield. Avoid these problems b check-ing your wiper blades. Replacing the blades isquick, easy and relatively inexpensive. Simplygo into your local auto part store, tell them yourvehicle make and model, and they'll direct you tothe correct replacement blade. Many stores willeven install them for you.
Another part that is easy to check is yourbattery. Pop the hood and make sure that theposts on the battery are clean. If there is an
excess of corrosion on the breplacing it.
Clean out the interior. Mosnowy boots have no doubt tacarpeting. It's a good time to haps even shampoo the carpetat it, clean out the empty cofffood bags.
Other things to consider areoil and oil filter, and the radiatotem. Spring is a time to get reacgreat outdoors-just make sureready to spring into better wea
Put the spring back in your vehicle
