All Surespan access hatches are engineeredwith the best available materials, primarily

aluminium or stainless steel to provide theultimate in performance and complementthe building. Surespan products aremanufactured to a modern design and in ahigh-tech environment to close tolerances, toensure we achieve the maximum in efficiencywith our thermally broken sections.

Standard roof hatches are offered withstainless steel gas spring assisted opening foreffortless, efficient and safe operation. Othermechanical and electrical opening optionsare available including solar powered electricactuators.

SMOKE VENTILATORS

Surespan SRHE/AOV Smoke Ventilators aredesigned to open in a variety of formats from

standard 90˚ and 140˚ through to 180˚. Verticallift and 180˚ (sliding) hatches are recommendedfor high wind conditions.

Operated by a 24v DC actuator the hatchlid is filled with 50mm of CFC and HCFC freeinsulation with a minimum U-Value of0.43W/m²K to BS3958: Part 5: 1986. This offers ahigh level of thermal insulation, together withexcellent sound absorption properties.

The lids are supported by heavy-duty axelpins and feature an integral ‘wrap over’ edge,

incorporating double unbroken EPDM seals.The hatch is designed to be wired direct intothe BMS or FAS system by others for completemonitoring.

Help to prevent smoke inhalation; it’s imperative that when a fire related incident occurs that the smoke is ventilated quickly and

efficiently. In the past the need to open to 140° has all that has been on offer, we have now extended this to 180˚.Service and MaintenanceIt is recommended that an A.O.V. system is regularly serviced and maintained by specialised personnel on a regular basis. GLAZED ACCESS

Surespan SRGH glazed access hatches aregenerally used where there is a need or desireto allow light into the area below the unit or

to maintain external views. Most of our accesshatches can be offered with a glazed lid withconsiderations being given for the size and weightof the unit.

In todays modern world there are various optionsfor a glazing system. In collaboration with ourglazing suppliers we can generally provide asystem to meet whatever is required by ourcustomers. Our range offers double glazed, trippleglazed, walk-on, fire rated, with various texturesand finishes to suit.

As full members of the National Association ofRooflight manufacturers (NARM), we seek toensure that our products conform to the lateststandards and technology available in glazedsystems.

stainless steel gas spring and hardware. The assistedlift aluminium tread plate or pan type lid locks intothe open position with a positive action safety holdopen stay to prevent against accidental closure.A stainless steel slam action cablock is fitted asstandard to lock the lids, these locks are easily openedfrom inside and key operated from the outside.Other locking provisions including locking boxesand electrical interlock are available on request. HIAC - FLOOR ACCESS

Surespan HIAC recessed access hatches have a pan type door andcan be recessed from 3mm to 100mm. The hatches are rated fromFACTA class A-E. The hatches are manufactured from aluminium orstainless steel and operated by either stainless steel gas springs, 24vDC actuators or hydraulics.

This access hatch type is not watertight, if a self draining cover isrequired please specify. Any water passing the seals will be dispersedvia an integral drainage channel, which is fitted with an optionalinternal or external ¾ inch flexible hose adaptor (for connection todrain by others).

As part of the initial enquiry the weight of the infill must beadvised to enable us to determine the method of operation.

SPECIAL PROJECTS

Surespan manufactured and supplied a floor hatch to enablea Finnish energy company to access their biomass pit at theirnew energy plant in Lithuania. The 5000 x 5000mm hydraulicallyoperated, double leaf hatch was designed to be easily operatedby an electrically driven pump power pack.

Access was required for a grab crane to gain easy access tothe biomass fuel store. Surespan worked with engineeringconsultants AF Consult to come up with an effective solution.

AQUA - VENTILATED UPSTAND ACCESS

Surespan’s Aqua stainless steel upstand access covers are rated at250 kg/m² loading. The cover has a ventilated lid which is fitted withinsect proof micromesh inserts which allow the hatch to breathe andprevent it from contamination. A highly effective EPDM sponge sealis fitted as standard. The stainless steel gas springs ensure the lid iseasily opened which then locks in position with a safety hold openstays to prevent against accidental closure. Surespan designs and supplies Biomass FuelDoors to a variety of designs to suit a variety ofapplications. Biomass Fuel Doors can be operatedeither manually, hydraulically or electrically and aremanufactured in aluminium for single or double leafupstand access covers are rated at 5kN/m ² loadingor flush floor doors capable of taking traffic loadingsup to FACTA class E. See load chart on this page. Thepatent marine alloy frame incorporates a single ordouble unbroken EPDM seal, to help prevent theingress of dirt and moisture, offering water and nearairtight seal. HYDRAULICS

Our larger or heavy duty access covers can be

hydraulically operated. Hydraulic cylinders

provide a higher power to size ratio to electric

actuators therefore operating cylinders can fit

into smaller installed spaces.

Our basic system comprises of operating

cylinders with a hand pump and operates from

topside or underneath. A typical access cover

panel would take approximately 60 seconds from

closed to open. Closing is achieved by releasing

the hydraulic oil from the cylinder and the self

weight of the cover is sufficient to push the

cylinder closed.

The Electrically Operated System comprises of

a basic system with the addition of an electrical

driven pump cover unit with control valves and

electrical control panel. A typical system which

comprises of a 0.75KW single phase electric

motor with solenoid valve and associated electric

direct online starter and control. Generally the

access hatch is simply operated using an open/

close push button. Multiple access covers can

be provided with individual hydraulic controls

and power unit for each access cover or with a

centralised hydraulic power unit and manifold

serving multiple access controls. Hydraulic

systems are designed to suit customer needs this

can include emergency stored power systems

that can operate a cover to fail safe position on

mains power failure.

PNEUMATICS

Our access hatches can also be designed to be

pneumatically operated. Pneumatics provide a

clean and efficient way of operating our hatches

in environments where compressed air is freelyavailable or is preferred to hydraulic cylinders or

electrical actuators. Our basic system comprises

of operating cylinders fed from a manual

control manifold that can connect to a ring main

pneumatic supply.

The control manifold can allow speed adjustmentof operation based on its function e.g. Normal

Maintenance access, escape access or smoke

ventilation.

Multiple access hatches can be provided with

individual pneumatic controls and where required

a compressor for each access hatch or with acentralised compressor and manifold serving

multiple access hatches. Pneumatic systems aredesigned to suit customer needs this can include

emergency stored power via pressurised storage

systems that can operate a cover to fail safeposition should mains power fail.

SOLAR POWER

Our electrically operated hatches have the

option of being operated without the need for

mains electric power. Solar Panels positioned

on the roof can be connected to our purpose

made control panel that can be positioned to

suit. Batteries are then connected to the control

panel and are charged via the solar panels.

Standard Features on the front of the control

box are OPEN & CLOSE and a mute button.

The control box also provides an indication of

battery condition and motor operating status.

There are various levels of visual and audible

alarms to alert the condition of the battery

voltage.

The control box also has a feature to connect

an Emergency Stop, a remote Open & Close

facility and a Fire Alarm opening command
