Purpose: The purpose of the Student Senate is to represent the Student Government Association (SGA) in all matters and to serve as a liaison between the students, faculty, staff and administration. The Student Senate is actively involved in sponsoring a variety of co-curricular activities and events. Elections to the Student Senate take place annually in the spring. Section I. All Student Senators shall:
1. Strive for the ideals established in the Preamble and Purpose of the Student
Government Association Constitution.
2. Agree to foster a sense of goodwill and fellowship with the SGA.
3. Follow the Student Government Association By-Laws.
4. Work on selecting goals for the upcoming year prior to the start of the fall
semester.
5. Accept all obligations and responsibilities of being a SGA representative.
6. Maintain a minimum of ten (10) office hours per week, not to be completed in one
(1) business day, during the Student Senator’s term in office.
7. Attend all Student Senate functions, unless prior notice is given in writing.
8. Represent the students at functions where official representation is deemed
advisable.
9. Attend all scheduled Student Senate meetings.
10. Notify the Office of Student Life and the Manager of Student Life in the event of
an absence from the Student Senate meetings or office/ service hours.
11. Act as a liaison between the SGA Membership, faculty and the college
administration.
12. Represent and vote on all matters pertaining to the SGA.
13. Represent Student Senate committees as assigned by the Student Senate
President.
14. Exercise all additional rights necessary or required to serve the best interests of
the college and the SGA.
15. Be part of the Documentation Evaluation Team, ensuring the Constitution, By-
Laws, and other Legislation do not conflict.
16. Be aware of the ideas and opinions of the Student Senate and the SGA.
17. Encourage student involvement campus-wide.
18. Promote integration, coordination, and cooperation between all
clubs/organizations on campus.
19. Maintain an unbiased attitude toward all clubs/organizations and individuals.
20. Maintain complete confidentiality of all clubs/organizations information and
internal Student Senate matters.
21. Assist in the selection of the annual student awards for the Honors and Awards
Convocation.
22. Evaluate the clubs/organizations to establish a ranking for “Club of the Year”
distinction.

23. Maintain professional relationships with the SGA, staff, faculty, administration and
community.
24. Follow the instruction of the Advisor as well as the rules listed in the Campus and
Student Codes of Conduct.
25. Maintain a good rapport with club representatives.
26. Submit Student Senate agenda topics to the Executive Secretary within an
agreed upon time frame prior to the meeting.
27. Complete a pre-employment screening process required for the Student
Senate/Student Leadership Internship, which may include but is not limited to
educational verification, reference checks, and background investigations. All of
these processes must be successfully completed and approved before
employment begins.
28. Candidates must pass the College’s background check.
A. The President shall:
The main duty of the President is to oversee all functions in accordance with the
Student Government Association Constitution and governing By-Laws.
Position Summary: The President of the Student Senate is responsible for executing the
provisions of the Student Government Association Constitution and assists the Manager of
Student Life in leading the Student Senate in expressing the opinions of the student body.
The President oversees the general operation of the Student Senate and assures goal
completion and senators’ effectiveness. The President is under the general supervision of
the Manager of Student Life.
Nature and Scope: Primary duties are generally limited to the type of function of the
assigned office or area. May have frequent contact with other offices requiring knowledge
of college organization and procedures. Work is performed with regular supervision.
Assignments are given in the form of verbal or written instructions. May work with other
College employees. Typical duties include, but are not limited to the following:
General Responsibilities:
(A) Fosters a sense of goodwill and fellowship with the Lorain County Community
College Student Government Association and provides representation as deemed
advisable.
(B) Assists in creating and completing tactical, student focused goals of the Student
Senate for the upcoming year prior to the start of each semester and presents them
at the first General Meeting of the semester.
(C) Maintains a minimum of ten (10) office hours per week, not to be completed in one
(1) business day, during the Student Senator’s term in office. Attend all Student
Senate related functions and meetings, unless prior notice is given in writing to the

Manager of Student Life and approval is granted. Maximum number of hours per
week is 25 hours, which must be approved by the Manager of Student Life.
(D) Acts as a liaison between the Student Government Association, faculty, staff, and
the college administration.
(E) Assist in planning and implementing all Student Senate events on the Elyria
campus as well as at each Learning Center.
(F) Represents Student Government Association at Student Senate meetings and
assigned committee and council meetings. Votes on all matters where voting is
required and participates as a member on the Document Review Committee.
(G) Exercises all additional recommendations necessary or required to serve the best
interests of the College and the Student Government Association as directed by the
Manager of Student Life or the administration.
(H) Provides efficient communication of ideas and opinions from the Student
Government Association, administration, faculty, and staff while encouraging
campus-wide involvement.
(I) Promotes integration, coordination, communication, and cooperation between all
student clubs, organizations, committees, councils, and societies on campus in an
unbiased manner.
(J) Maintains complete confidentiality of all student clubs, organizations, committees,
councils, societies, and individuals pertaining to sensitive and/or confidential
information.
(K) Acts as a mediator between student clubs, organization, and societies as needed.
(L) Assists in the selection of nominees for Club of the Year and Advisor of the Year for
The Annual Student Honors and Awards Convocation.
(M) Maintains professional relationships with the Student Government Association,
administration, faculty, staff, and community.
Position Specific Responsibilities:
(A) Oversees and delegates, as deemed necessary and appropriate, such duties to
carry out the functions and day-to-day business of the Student Senate.
(B) Represents the Student Government Association at functions where the President
is specifically requested. If the President is unable to be the official student
representation, the President appoints another Student Senator to do so.
(C) Appoints Student Senators to serve on Lorain County Community College
Committees and Councils at the beginning of each fall term with guidance from the
Manager of Student Life.
(D) Calls to order, resides, and maintains order over scheduled and emergency Student
Senate meetings as the chairperson.
(E) Calls emergency meetings, which require a majority of the present total
membership of the Student Senate with no less than twenty-four (24) hours
advanced notice.

(F) Notifies the Student Government Association of the cancellation of Student Senate
meetings.
(G) Gives a speech at Spring Commencement for Lorain County Community College.
(H) Serves as the spokesperson for the Student Government Association with
assistance from the Student Senate Vice President.
(I) Maintains a professional relationship with the Student Government Associations
from other local Community Colleges, with the assistance from the Student Senate
Vice President.
(J) Attends bi-weekly Operations Council meetings.
(K) Has oversight and input of the meeting agendas of the Student Senate and order of
business prior to every Student Senate meeting.
(L) Acts as the main correspondent between the Manger of Student Life and Student
Senate with assistance from the Vice President.
(M) All other duties as assigned by the Manager of Student Life.
Qualifications:
(A) Must be a high school graduate or currently enrolled in the College Credit Plus or
the Early College programs.
(B) Must be registered as a student of LCCC or its partnership schools.
(C) Must have at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA in accordance with official college
records.
(D) Must have completed at least twelve (12) credit hours of Lorain County Community
College coursework and maintain a total of six (6) credit hours per semester, except
summer, in either/both LCCC and its partnership schools.
(E) Must maintain good academic standing within LCCC as determined by the
Associate Provost of Enrollment Management & Student Success.
Preferred Qualifications:
(A) Previously served on the Lorain County Community College Student Senate.
(B) Experience in peer leadership with the ability to effectively lead and serve on a
team.
(C) Ability to work independently and to collaborate effectively with other employees.
(D) Experience with business communication in a professional environment.
(E) Previous experience with public speaking.
(F) Completed a/an Certificate, Associate Degree, or Bachelor Degree.
B. The Vice President shall:
The main duty of the Vice President is to perform the duties of the President in his/her
absence and to assist in the efforts of the Student Senate towards its goals.
Position Summary: The Vice President of the Student Senate is responsible for the
effectiveness and efficiency of the Student Senate in conjunction with the Student

Senate President. The Vice President of the Student Senate is responsible for fulfilling
the duties of the Student Senate President in their absence. The Vice President is
under the general supervision of the Manager of Student Life.

Position Specific Responsibilities:
(A) Assumes all assigned powers as well as performs all duties of the Student Senate
President in their absence.
(B) Assumes Presidency in case of the Student Senate President’s position becomes
vacant until the next regularly scheduled election of the Student Senate.
(C) Oversees the process of replacing the Student Senate Vice President’s position, if a
vacancy occurs.
(D) Assists the Student Senate President in overseeing the work and representation of
the Student Senate.
(E) Oversees the completion of Student Senate office hours and submits to the
Manager of Student Life, a bi-weekly and semester performance report.
(F) Assists the Student Senate President in maintaining professional relationships with
Student Government Associations from other local Community Colleges.
(G) Manages the attendance, tardiness, and breaks of all Student Senators and reports
concerns to the Student Senate President and Manager of Student Life.
(H) Provides assistance to the President where correspondence with Manager of
Student Life is necessary.
(I) All other duties as assigned by the President and/or the Manager of Student Life.
Qualifications:
(A) Must be a high school graduate or currently enrolled in the College Credit Plus or
the Early College programs.

C. The Executive Secretary shall:
The main duty of the Executive Secretary is to serve as office manager of the Student
Senate.
Position Summary: The Executive Secretary of the Student Senate is responsible for
all official documents related to the Student Senate including meeting agendas and
minutes. The Executive Secretary is also responsible for regular interaction between
other offices, organizations, and clubs. The Executive Secretary is under the general
supervision of the Manager of Student Life.
Nature and Scope: Primary duties are generally limited to the type of function of the
assigned office or area. May have frequent contact with other offices requiring
knowledge of college organization and procedures. Work is performed with regular
supervision. Assignments are given in the form of verbal or written instructions. May
work with other College employees. Typical duties include, but are not limited to the
following:

Position Specific Responsibilities:
(A) Manages the recording of minutes, filing of records and creation of letters.
(B) Creates memos, proclamations, petitions, proposals, and other Student Senate
related documents.
(C) Prepares and distributes Student Senate agendas, records, minutes, and other
related documents upon request.
(D) Distributes copies of the General Meeting agenda’s, minutes and other public
documents upon request.
(E) Maintains general and complete Student Senate files, accessible to all members of
the Student Senate.
(F) Be responsible for all Student Senate correspondence, may work with other
members to assist.
(G) Establishes an agenda for each General and Event Planning meeting of the Student
Senate with input from the appropriate Student Senate members.
(H) Maintains inventory of all equipment, supplies, and related administrative items for
the Student Senate.
(I) Assists the Event Coordinator in the creation of the Event Binder to be presented to
the newly elected Student Senate Senators.
(J) Serves as the primary contact between the Student Senate and student
clubs/organizations in regards to Student Senate meetings and reminders.
(K) Assist the Student Senate President and Vice President in serving as the primary
contact between the Student Senate and College departments in all matters
pertaining to the Student Senate.

(L) Updates office related calendars with meeting times, events, and other activities
using office technology; ensures information is shared with all necessary parties.
(M) All other duties as assigned by the President and/or the Manager of Student Life.
Qualifications:
(A) Must be a high school graduate or currently enrolled in the College Credit Plus or
the Early College programs.
(B) Must be registered as a student of LCCC or its partnership schools.
(C) Must have at least a 2.50 cumulative GPA in accordance with official college
records.
(D) Must have completed at least twelve (12) credit hours of Lorain County Community
College coursework and maintain a total of six (6) credit hours per semester, except
summer, in either/both LCCC and its partnership schools.
(E) Must maintain good academic standing within LCCC as determined by the
Associate Provost of Enrollment Management & Student Success.
Preferred Qualifications:
(A) Experience in an office environment.
(B) Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Publisher.
(C) Highly skilled in organization, writing, and proofreading.
(D) Ability to work independently and to collaborate effectively with other employees.
(E) Experience with business communication in a professional environment.
(F) Completed a/an Certificate, Associate Degree, or Bachelor Degree.
D. The Financial Secretary shall:
The main duty of the Financial Secretary is to ensure the effective handling of all
financial matters of the Student Senate.
Position Summary: The Financial Secretary of the Student Senate is responsible for
ensuring the financial security and economic wellbeing of the Student Senate. The
Financial Secretary advises the Student Senate on expenditures and is responsible for
accessing and reporting budget information to the Student Senate. The Financial
Secretary is under the general supervision of the Manager of Student Life.

assigned office or area. May have frequent contact with other offices requiring
knowledge of college organization and procedures. Work is performed with regular
supervision. Assignments are given in the form of verbal or written instructions. May

Position Specific Responsibilities:
(A) Advises the Student Senate and the Student Government Association members of
financial matters at Student Senate meetings and ensures reports are distributed to
active clubs monthly.

(B) Maintains and presents a monthly report consisting of all Student Senate accounts
to the Student Senate for review at Student Senate meetings.
(C) Tracks all transactions involving Student Senate accounts.
(D) Notifies the Student Senate and the Manager of Student Life of any discrepancies in
the Student Senate account balances.
(E) Assists in maintaining copies of receipts, deposits, miscellaneous expenses and
assists in requesting reimbursements for the Student Senate.
(F) Leads the financial planning initiative for any Student Senate leadership retreats.
(G) Expresses extensive knowledge of previous and current regulations regarding the
Club Chartering and Club Incentive programs.
(H) Reviews, verifies and submits for consideration to the Student Senate President or
Vice President, Tier Funding Requests Forms. The primary guidelines will be as
stated in the current Club Incentive Packet.
(I) Maintains tier funding balances for each chartered club.
(J) All other duties as assigned by the President and/or the Manager of Student Life.
Qualifications:
(A) Must be a high school graduate or currently enrolled in the College Credit Plus or
the Early College programs.
(B) Must be registered as a student of LCCC or its partnership schools.
(C) Must have at least a 2.50 cumulative GPA in accordance with official college
records.
(D) Must have completed at least twelve (12) credit hours of Lorain County Community
College coursework and maintain a total of six (6) credit hours per semester, except
summer, in either/both LCCC and its partnership schools.
(E) Must maintain good academic standing within LCCC as determined by the
Associate Provost of Enrollment Management & Student Success.
Preferred Qualifications:
(A) Experience with budgeting and finance on a personal and/or professional level.
(B) Ability to use Microsoft Excel for financial purposes.
(C) Ability to work independently and to collaborate effectively with other employees.
(D) Experience with business communication in a professional environment.
(E) Completed a/an Certificate, Associate Degree, or Bachelor Degree.
E. The Event Coordinator shall:
The main duties of the Event Coordinator are to supervise the Student Senate elections
and Student Senate events.
Position Summary: The Event Coordinator of the Student Senate is responsible for
the planning, hosting, and execution of Student Senate related activities/events. The
Event Coordinator often assigns event related tasks to individual Student Senators

during the planning of an event. Duties also include paperwork regarding events,
recruiting volunteers, and contacting individual businesses. The Event Coordinator is
under the general supervision of the Manager of Student Life.

(L) Assists in the selection of nominees for Club of the Year and Advisor of the Year for
The Annual Student Honors and Awards Convocation.
(M) Maintains professional relationships with the Student Government Association,
administration, faculty, staff, and community.
Position Specific Responsibilities:
(A) Acts as a liaison between the Student Government Association and the college
community regarding specific activities and/or events.
(B) Coordinates and supervises campus-wide events that are sponsored or co-
sponsored by the Student Senate.
(C) Acts as the Student Senate liaison to the Program Board.
(D) Assists with conducting and coordinating the Student Senate elections for the
Student Government Association in accordance with the Constitution’s rules and
regulations, unless running for reelection.
(E) Serves as the chairperson to the election committee according to the current
Election Code, unless running for office in the upcoming election.
(F) Assists in the development and distribution of surveys and other data collection
tools for the improvement of the Student Senate.
(G) Submits a written report to the Student Senate and renders an opinion based upon
the evidence gathered from collected surveys and other data.
(H) Manages the publicity of the Student Senate activities/events on all Student Senate
social media profiles, main campus, learning centers, and to the public with
assistance from other Student Senators.
(I) Leads the creation of the Event Binder with the assistance of the Student Senate
Executive Secretary, to be presented to the newly elected Student Senate.
(J) Leads the creation of the event calendar at the start of each academic semester
and receives input from the Student Senate throughout the academic year for
updates.
(K) Assigns event related responsibilities to each Student Senator upon agreement
from the Student Senate.
(L) Assists the Executive Secretary in the creation of the Event Planning Meeting
agenda with accepted input from the Student Senate President.
(M) All other duties as assigned by the President and/or the Manager of Student Life.
Qualifications:
(A) Must be a high school graduate or currently enrolled in the College Credit Plus or
the Early College programs.
(B) Must be registered as a student of LCCC or its partnership schools.
(C) Must have at least a 2.50 cumulative GPA in accordance with official college
records.

(D) Must have completed at least twelve (12) credit hours of Lorain County Community
College coursework and maintain a total of six (6) credit hours per semester, except
summer, in either/both LCCC and its partnership schools.
(E) Must maintain good academic standing within LCCC as determined by the
Associate Provost of Enrollment Management & Student Success.
Preferred Qualifications:
(A) Previous event planning experience.
(B) Detail oriented and has the ability to multi-task.
(C) Exhibits personal and professional time management skills.
(D) Ability to work independently and to collaborate effectively with other employees.
(E) Experience with business communication in a professional environment.
(F) Completed a/an Certificate, Associate Degree, or Bachelor Degree.
F. The Learning Center Representative shall:
The main duty of the Learning Center Representative is to represent the interests and concerns of the SGA in the Learning Centers and other partnership opportunities through Lorain County Community College.
Position Summary: The Learning Center Representative of the Student Senate is
responsible for representing the interests and concerns of the Student Government
Association members enrolled at the Learning Centers. The Learning Center
representative advocates for the needs of the Learning Center students and also
serves as the main contact between the Learning Centers and the Student Senate. The
Learning Center Representative is under the general supervision of the Manager of
Student Life.
Nature and Scope: Primary duties are generally limited to the type of function of the
assigned office or area. May have frequent contact with other offices requiring
knowledge of college organization and procedures. Work is performed with regular
supervision. Assignments are given in the form of verbal or written instructions. May
work with other College employees. Typical duties include, but are not limited to the
following:
General Responsibilities:
(A) Fosters a sense of goodwill and fellowship with the Lorain County Community
College Student Government Association and provides representation as deemed
advisable.
(B) Assists in creating and completing tactical, student focused goals of the Student
Senate for the upcoming year prior to the start of each semester and presents them
at the first General Meeting of the semester.

(C) Maintains a minimum of ten (10) office hours per week, not to be completed in one
(1) business day, during the Student Senator’s term in office. Attend all Student
Senate related functions and meetings, unless prior notice is given in writing to the
Manager of Student Life and approval is granted. Maximum number of hours per
week is 25 hours, which must be approved by the Manager of Student Life.
(D) Acts as a liaison between the Student Government Association, faculty, staff, and
the college administration.
(E) Assist in planning and implementing all Student Senate events on the Elyria
campus as well as at each Learning Center.
(F) Represents Student Government Association at Student Senate meetings and
assigned committee and council meetings. Votes on all matters where voting is
required and participates as a member on the Document Review Committee.
(G) Exercises all additional recommendations necessary or required to serve the best
interests of the College and the Student Government Association as directed by the
Manager of Student Life or the administration.
(H) Provides efficient communication of ideas and opinions from the Student
Government Association, administration, faculty, and staff while encouraging
campus-wide involvement.
(I) Promotes integration, coordination, communication, and cooperation between all
student clubs, organizations, committees, councils, and societies on campus in an
unbiased manner.
(J) Maintains complete confidentiality of all student clubs, organizations, committees,
councils, societies, and individuals pertaining to sensitive and/or confidential
information.
(K) Acts as a mediator between student clubs, organization, and societies as needed.

(D) Plans and coordinates a minimum of four (4) activities/events each semester for the
Learning Centers.
(E) Promotes activities and events that are hosted on the Elyria campus to the
Learning Centers to increase student involvement.

(F) Promotes the collaboration between the Office of Student Life, clubs and
organizations with the Learning Centers.
(G) Travels to all Learning Centers to establish and build relationships with staff and
students at each center.
(H) Maintains contact with the Learning Centers on a regular basis using at least one
form of communication.
(I) Promotes all Learning Center student interactions with campus affiliated groups.
(J) Coordinates with the Event Coordinator and the Student Senate to plan events
specific to the Learning Centers.
(K) All other duties as assigned by the President and/or the Manager of Student Life.

University Partnership Students.
(F) Conveys the opinions, concerns, issues and suggestions of the students in the
partnership programs to the Student Senate.
(G) Attends any relevant partnership committee meetings, events, or gatherings and
reports information at Student Senate meetings.
(H) Promotes all partnership student interactions with campus affiliated groups.
(I) All other duties as assigned by the President and/or the Manager of Student
Life.
Qualifications:
(A) Must be a high school graduate or currently enrolled in the College Credit Plus or
the Early College programs.
(B) Must be registered as a student of LCCC or its partnership schools.

Section II. Spring Election
During the Spring General Elections, the Student Senate Election Committee is
established as a non-partisan body to ensure a fair elections process. The committee sets
all deadlines and polling dates, establishes voting methods for students, and oversees any
campaign violations and investigations. Members are appointed to their positions prior to
election season.
A. Spring Election is held to select the entire Student Senate.
B. Ballots will be available online and by paper ballots on campus
C. Must be held four (4) weeks before the end of the semester
D. Shall be conducted by the Elections Committee.
E. Spring Election Results
a. Votes must be counted within one (1) business day after the conclusion of
voting.
b. Votes must be counted in a public place by the Elections Committee
Chairperson, Manager of Student Life, and a representative from the
Elections Committee.
c. Must be publicly announced within one (1) business day after the conclusion
of voting.
d. Must be reported to all candidates by the Manager of Student Life or
designee.
e. A recount shall be conducted upon written request of a candidate to the
Chairperson of the Elections Committee or the Manager of Student Life no
later than 4:00 p.m. the following business day after the official election
results have been announced.
f. The elections will culminate when voting concludes.
g. Installation of elected Student Senators will occur prior to the fall semester.
A. Terms of Office
a. Each Student Senator position is understood to commence for one academic
year from the date of installment excluding summer term. All positions will
conclude at the end of spring semester, unless a Senator has been
reelected.
i. This excludes Senators that are appointed mid-term or after the fall
semester.

b. No officer may serve for more than two elected terms in the same position
consecutively.
c. No Student Senator may serve for more than three (3) elected/appointed
terms as a Student Senator.
Section III. Removals and Vacancies
A. Resignations
a. A Student Senator who is no longer willing or able to perform their duties
may submit a letter of resignation to the Manager of Student Life with a copy
to the Student Senate.
b. Upon receipt of the resignation, the Manager of Student Life may have a
meeting with the Student Senator who submitted the resignation to discuss
matter.
c. Upon acceptance by the Manager of Student Life, the position will be
considered vacant and the individual subject to the resignation will no longer
represent the Student Senate in any official capacity including, but not limited
to, functions or activities.
d. The Manager of Student Life shall assist the Student Senate with replacing
and filling the vacant Student Senate position in accordance with the SGA
Constitution, Article VI, Section F.
B. De Facto Student Senate Resignation by Absence(s)
a. A Student Senator having been absent without due cause or excused from
five (5) consecutive Student Senate meetings is deemed to have resigned,
excluding emergency meetings.
b. The Manager of Student Life has the authority to excuse a Student Senator
from any meetings of the Student Senate.
c. If a Student Senator has not been excused by the Manager of Student Life
and has been absent from five (5) consecutive meetings, the Manager of
Student Life may remove the absent Student Senator or the Student Senate
may remove the absent Student Senator by a majority vote; the Manager of
Student Life must then informed of the decision.
d. The Manager of Student Life shall assist the Student Senate with filling the
vacant position in accordance with the SGA Constitution, Article VI. Section
C. Vacancy
a. A vacancy in the Presidency of the Student Senate will be filled by the Vice
President.
b. The Vice Presidency will be offered to any other current Student Senator if
the current Vice President is unable to assumes the position.

c. If no current Student Senator assumes the vacant position, the position will
be filled by Student Leadership Intern candidates and/or advertised and filled
by appointment.
D. Administrative Discipline or Removal of a Student Senator
a. The College Administration reserves the right to unilaterally institute
disciplinary actions including the removal of a Student Senator for a violation
of the Student Code of Conduct, any performance or conduct agreements,
and/or any policy or procedure adopted by the Board of Trustees.
b. The Manager of Student Life may also place disciplinary sanctions on a
Student Senator who fails to fulfill Student Senate responsibilities, Student
Code of Conduct issues, or fails to fulfill any performance or conduct
agreement.
c. The Manager of Student Life may utilize a variety of sanctions to address any
and all issues as they relate to the Student Senate, including the removal of
a Student Senator.
d. If a Student Senator is removed or disciplined and desires to appeal the
administrative action, the appeal process will be governed by the Student
Grievance procedure as stated in the College’s catalog.
E. Student Senate Recommendation to Remove a Student Senator
a. The Student Senate may recommend the removal of any Student Senator to
the Manager of Student Life, who fails to abide by the Student Government
Association Constitution, the policies and procedures of the College or has
been subject to Administrative Discipline by the College.
b. The Student Senate Recommendation to Remove a Senator must be
approved by a majority vote of the Student Senate in a staff or emergency
meeting of the Student Senate.
c. The Student Senate Recommendation to Remove a Student Senator must
state the specific reasons for removal to the Manager of Student Life.
d. The Student Senator, who has been recommended for removal, must be
invited to a meeting with the Manager of Student Life to discuss the matter.
The Notice of the Meeting shall include the date, time, locations, and subject
matter.
e. The Manager of Student Life may consult with the Student Senate and any
other LCCC or community persons prior to acting on the Student Senate
Recommendation to Remove a Student Senator.
f. After the meeting, if the Removal Recommendation is accepted by the
Manager of Student Life, the Student Senator subject to be removed may file
an appeal within seven (7) days of receipt of the decision for removal. The

appeal must follow the Student Grievance procedure as outlined in the
College Catalog.
g. To fill a vacancy in any other office of the Student Senate, the position will be
filled by Student Leadership Intern candidates and/or advertised for
appointment.
h. An application and interview process will commence with the current Student
Senate and the Manager of Student Life.
i. The successful candidate must be approved by a majority vote of the entire
Student Senate.
j. The candidate assumes responsibility upon taking the oath of office.
F. Student Government Association Removal of a Student Senator
a. A member of the SGA may seek to remove a Student Senator by Written
Petition, which state the specific reason(s) for the removal within the petition.
b. This written petition requesting an election for removal of a specific Student
Senate position must be filed with the Manager of Student Life.
c. The College Administration reserves the right to unilaterally void any Petition
to Remove a Student Senator if it seeks to disrupt College academic or
student services, violates public policy and/or any policy or procedure
adopted by the Board of Trustees.
d. Petitioner(s) have fourteen (14) calendar days after filing with the Manager of
Student Life to secure the appropriate number of signatures.
e. The petition must bear signatures of 10% of the entire SGA Membership.
f. Student signatures on the petition will be verified by the Manager of Student
Life and any other LCCC staff the Manger appoints for assistance.
g. The Student Senate will be promptly notified that a Petition to Remove a
Student Senator has been filed with the Manager of Student Life.
h. Upon validation of the signatures on the petition, a special election to remove
a Student Senator will be held within fourteen (14) days.
i. A notification of the special election to remove a Student Senator will be
posted throughout campus and online in order to notify the SGA 48 hours
after validation of the petition. This notification will include dates, times, and
locations of polling areas.
j. The ballot language will present two statements: (1) To remove said Senator
or (2) Not to remove said Senator.
k. The Manager of Student Life will oversee the special election process.
l. The results will be counted by the Manager of Student Life, a representative
from Campus Security, and a representative from Student Senate as
selected by the Manager of Student Life.

m. Any Student Senator subject to special election for removal will be notified
within eight (8) hours after the results of the election has been verified.
n. The results of the election will be posted after the Senator in question has
been notified.
o. A special request for a recount must be in writing and filed with the Manager
of Student Life within 24 hours of the posting of the election results.
p. The recount process will follow the steps as outlined above in Section III, D.
11-14 and the results will be final.
G. Process for Reinstatement after Removal from Office
a. Reinstatement can only be done if the grounds for removal allow for
reinstatement according to the Student Senate By-Laws and College policies
and procedures.
b. A member of the LCCC SGA may seek to reinstate a Student Senator by
written petition, which must state the specific reason(s) for reinstatement
within the petition.
c. This written petition requesting an election for reinstatement of a specific
Senator must be filed with the Manager of Student Life within forty-eight (48)
hours after the removal.
d. The College Administration reserves the right to unilaterally void any Petition
to Reinstate a Student Senator if it seeks to disrupt College academic or
student services, violates public policy and/or any policy or procedure
adopted by the Board of Trustees.
e. The petitioning process must follow the steps listed under Section F, 4-16.
Section IV. Election Code
A. Nomination Procedure
a. Potential candidates are required to complete a nomination packet and return
the entire packet to the Office of Student Life by the specified date and time.
Packets can be picked up from the Office of Student Life or retrieved online
from the Student Life website.
b. The Election Committee will inform individuals of any additional information
that may become relevant after completion of the packet.
c. Potential candidates will be notified within one (1) week of submission of the
packet whether or not they have met the qualifications.
B. Qualifications
a. Candidates must have previously taken twelve (12) credit hours through
Lorain County Community College and/or the University Partnership at the
time of his/her induction.

b. Candidates must be enrolled as a student taking at least six (6) credit hours
per term at Lorain County Community College and/or the University
Partnership at the time of his/her induction and through the duration of
his/her term in office. The University Partnership Representative must be
enrolled in a partnership program course (s).
c. Candidates must have both at the time of his/her induction and through the
duration of his/her term in office, a minimum cumulative 2.75 GPA for the
Student Senate President and Vice President, and a 2.50 cumulative GPA
for the remaining Senate positions.
d. Elected candidates must be willing to assume power of said office at the time
of his/her induction.
e. Candidates must understand and agree to the Student Senate By-Laws and
the duties pertaining to the office they are seeking.
f. Candidates must understand and agree to fulfill and follow the Student
Government Association Constitution.
Section V. Election Code
a. The primary purpose of the Student Senate Election Code is to provide
guidelines to ensure honest, fair, and open elections for all students involved.
In upholding our responsibility to Student Government Association.
b. Election Code and Campaign Guidelines can be found in the Student Senate
Election Code and the Student Senate Campaign Packet.
By-Laws
Adoption
1. Adoption of the Student Senate By-Laws requires a majority vote of the entire Student
Senate.
Revisions
1. Revisions of the of the Student Senate By-Laws requires a majority vote of the entire
Student Senate.
2. No amendment to the Student Senate By-Laws shall conflict with the Constitution or with any policy or procedure adopted by the College. In the event of such conflict, the Constitution, policy or procedure shall supersede the By-laws.
