May 27, 2018 The Most Holy Trinity
My brothers and sisters in Christ,
I pray all of you had a blessed Memorial Day Weekend. I encourage us
each to take a moment to remember those who have given the ultimate sacrifice
in serving and defending our country. More than a million men and women have
given their lives in service to our country. You will find a beautiful prayer on Page 3
of the bulletin. Please take a moment with your family on Monday to pray this
prayer together.
Switching from a national celebration to a Church celebration, certain
months are dedicated to particular devotions that have developed over the
centuries. This month of May is dedicated to Mary. The month of June is dedicated
to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is
celebrated on the Friday following the second Sunday after Pentecost. How this
came about I am not entirely sure but this is the wisdom of the Church at work.
This year we celebrate the feast on Friday, June 8th. The Directory on Popular Piety
and the Liturgy states, “Understood in the light of the Scriptures, the term ‘Sacred
Heart of Jesus’ denotes the entire mystery of Christ, the totality of his being, and
his person considered in its most intimate essential: Son of God, uncreated
wisdom; infinite charity, principal of the salvation and sanctification of mankind.
The ‘Sacred Heart’ is Christ, the Word Incarnate, Savior, intrinsically containing, in
the Spirit, an infinite divine-human love for the Father and for his brothers.”
In preparation of the Feast day, please join me praying the Novena to the
Sacred Heart of Jesus. You can find these prayers on gold colored paper in the back
of both churches as well as on our website. Following the Mass in St. Elizabeth
Church on June 8th, there will be an opportunity to do an Act of Consecration to the
Sacred Heart of Jesus as well as recite the Litany of the Sacred Heart. You can also do an
enthronement of the Sacred Heart for their home. If you are interested in doing this or
would like more information on this, please contact me at the parish office or by email at
I pray you all have a blessed week!
Through the Alliance of the Two Hearts,
Fr. Matthew

Memorial Day Prayer
Heavenly Father, Today we remember and pay tribute to the men and women of the Armed Services who have died in the defense of our nation; from the days of the
Revolution to these days in Iraq and Afghanistan. They paid the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we hold so dear.
In the words of Sacred Scripture we hear, "There is no greater love then this, than to lay down one's life for a friend." It is only by your grace and the love they have for you and
this nation that gave them the strength to lay down their lives.
We beseech you O Lord, to receive these servants of peace into your loving embrace and grant them the eternal peace that surpasses all understanding.
We also remember the family members of these great heroes. They too suffer a great and painful sacrifice. Bestow upon them the blessings of your consolation and peace.
May you ease their sadness as they continue on the road to serenity and hope.
To you we offer this prayer knowing you fulfill the heart's desire of those who seek you with noble intentions. May our prayer for true and lasting peace be answered in
accordance to your will and for the good of your sons and daughters. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, the King of Peace. Amen

Renaissance image explaining the Holy Trinity
Trinity Sunday is a Christian feast dedicated to the doctrine of the Holy Trinity, the essence of God expressing itself in three persons: God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son, and the Holy Spirit, the spirit of God. It is one of the few Christian feasts that celebrates a doctrine, not an event. In Western Christianity Trinity Sunday always falls on the first Sunday after Pentecost. In Eastern Christianity Pentecost Sunday itself is Trinity Sunday.
Explanation of the Latin text on the image :
Outside (clockwise, starting at the top): The Father is not the Son The Son is not the Holy Spirit The Holy Spirit is not the Father
Inside (clockwise, starting on the left): The Father is God The Son is God The Holy Spirit is God
