SPIG S.p.A Italy, is one of the world leaders in design, engineering, supply, erection,
commissioning and testing of Industrial Engineered Custom Built Cooling Towers since 1936 from
North Italy. Our head office is located at Arona near Milan.
SPIG S.p.A enjoys worldwide clientele and has supplied more than thousands of industrial cooling
towers for various Petrochemicals, Aluminium, Steel, Cement, Process, Power Plants and Comfort
Cooling Industries. SPIG is backed up by a dedicated team of well experienced engineers,
managers and technicians based in Arona (North of Italy) and with an experience of about 75
years in cooling towers.
We have executed the world’s largest (210,000 m3/hr water flow) Pultruded FRP Structure
Cooling Tower during year 2009 (48 cells each of 14.4 x 14.4 m dimension) for the PETRORABIGH
project (Saudi Aramco & Sumitomo J.V company) in Saudi Arabia.
SPIG group entered the promising and upcoming Indian market carrying all its design advantages,
experiences and latest technologies with the very first cooling tower order from Reliance
Petroleum Ltd. for their Jamnagar Export Refinery Project, Gujarat through Bechtel France SAS in
the year 2006. We have the biggest Pultruded FRP Towers sold per cell ( 20 m x 18 m per cell ) in
India with total 11 cells to handle 34,650 cmh sea water cooling besides 17 cells (53,550 cmh) of
Concrete Cell type Cooling Towers for industrial type water.
We also commissioned cooling tower for L&T Mumbai EPC Dvsn. with Pultruded FRP Structures
suitable for sea water application for their SFCCL Methanol project in Saudi Arabia.
SPIG established its indian operation during the year 2008 through a wholly owned subsidiary
based in western suburbs of Mumbai. We share this pride of securing 445 cells as of date since
our first order from Reliance Industries and approximately 200 cells are operational and balance
are in various completion stages. SPIG Mumbai office is fully equipped with its talented and well
experienced hands and are backed by head office in all departments to ensure our long standing
trusted engineering and quality products reach the clients on time. We have also established a
fully functioning factory near Baroda to provide adequate supports to all our customers.
Our Worldwide reference list attached, speaks about our experience and specialization in heavy
industrial engineered custom built cooling towers in various materials of construction and
handling aggressive water like sea water, brackish water, geothermal water and industrial water.
As explained to you, SPIG always encourage the usage of proven latest technologies for large
industrial cooling towers such as Pultruded FRP for cooling tower structure.
Pultruded FRP structures are the best option for any sea water or fresh water cooling towers as it
does not corrode, deteriorate, warp or twist, does not decay as in case of wooden cooling towers,
does not erode as what seen inside of RCC towers. Pultruded FRP Towers will have less weight
applied to ground compared to conventional treated wood or concrete and do have high strength.
But the conventional type Concrete and treated wood (as always used by Indian manufacturers)
do require to adopt lot of preventive measures, chemical treatments on structures, expensive and
time consuming maintenance to operate the towers. Whereas by using Pultruded FRP Structures,
we eliminate usage of all kind of chemical treatments on structures and costly maintenance.
We use the best Nozzles to properly distribute the hot water inside the towers. By using these
nozzles, static pumping head is reduced to a greater extend that the conventional designs
available in India. When static pumping head is reduced by tower designs, the advantage is
directly passed on to client by using lower HP motors for pumps. This saves a lot of operational
cost to client.
We are glad to enclose the List of Major Projects carried out by SPIG India & SPIG S.p.A Italy for
your kind perusal and consideration along with the customer reference letters to substantiate the
demonstration of our commitments.
We would very much appreciate an opportunity to associate as supplier of industrial engineered
quality cooling towers with your prestigious upcoming projects.
Thanks & Best Regards,
SPIG Cooling Towers India (P) Ltd.

Fibreglass Composite Counter Flow Cooling Towers
Actual pictures of 4 nos 12 cells Pultruded FRP Cooling towers installed at 2*600 MW Essar Power Gujarat Ltd. for sea water application
The Pultruded GRP counter flow cooling towers utilizes advanced technology of
using composites and stainless steel SS-316 or duplex Stainless Steel for excellent
durability and corrosion resistance in a very truly cost effective design. These
cooling towers are thus designed perfectly with the above combination for all
climatic conditions and best suitable for sea water application.
We are using FRP Pultruded sections for the super structures of the cooling tower instead of
wood / concrete. These FRP Pultrusions and SMC shapes allow quick and accurate field assembly.
Counterflow designs adapts very well to architecturally sensitive environments or industrial /
power plants.
Listed below are the few advantages that Pultruded FRP Counterflow brings to you;
• FleFleFleFlexible Operationxible Operationxible Operationxible Operation : Distribution of hot water is made evenly through out the cross sectional
area of heat transfer. The hot water distribution is made of main FRP header pipes branched with
UPVC pipes and utilizes Polypropylene non-clog Ecojet® nozzles for proper distribution of water
and hence automatically eases maintenance.
• Ease of InstallationEase of InstallationEase of InstallationEase of Installation : With the usage of FRP Pultrusions and SMC shapes, one could easily
install the whole cooling tower with pre-fabricated / factory drilled structures. These pultrusions
are very consistent and durable. More than that its less weight. Its 70% lesser than steel and 30%
lesser than aluminium. Hence the total weight exerted by the tower structures are considerably
less.
• Less costly than Stainless SteelLess costly than Stainless SteelLess costly than Stainless SteelLess costly than Stainless Steel : More durable than galvanizing; More consistent than

When designing Cooling Towers or Air Cooled Condensers, one of Spig’s top priorities is the need to protect the environment from any type of pollution. The Com-pany’s research and development team study a number of alterna-tive solutions to ensure that the environment in which its towers or condensers are installed is as safe as possible.
The need, for example, to avoid plumes of vapour has led Spig to implement new designs for inno-vative Wet/Dry Cooling Towers that limit evaporation and the vis-ibility of the plume.
Spig tackles noise pollution issues by studying and implementing ef-fective solutions such as fans and attenuation systems that guaran-tee compliance with the increas-ingly severe restrictions imposed by European legislation.
Drift Losses with their carryo-ver of chemicals and pollution have been studied extensively and minimised to negligible val-ues, below standard tolerances.
