ABOUT THIS PROJECT
` In this project, we are going to replacecamshaft(entire set) in a diesel or petrol engine
with solenoid valves.
` There is no need of entire camshaft arrangement.
` The solenoids valves are operated instead of camshaft valves.

Reduced space is enough
No separate cooling is required(ie:camshaft
requires cooling and occupies lots of space)Reduced vibration

` View of camshaft rod arrangement.
` These rods are connected to the timing gear
which in turn is connected to the crankshaft.
` Due to wearing of mechanical parts, there will be
some delay in opening the intake and exhaustvalve.
` Also, valve clearance should be checked
periodically and adjusted if necessary.

electronic fuel injection system as shown in fig.

` Currently many types of solenoid valves are
present in the market today.
` For our project, we should go for higher speed(ie:
opening and closing time of solenoid should be
higher)solenoids.

The solenoid will be controlled by anECU(electronic control unit) which may be a 16-bit
or 32-bit microprocessor.
` The input to ECU will be from crankshaft sensors.

Physical location
The rotating disc of the sensor system does notnecessarily have to be mounted directly on thecrankshaft but can also be driven by a chain or toothed belt off the crankshaft as is the case insome Hondas where the crank position sensor islocated in the distributor, effectively driven by the
timing belt. Other locations include: The front of the crank on the engine block below or next to thewater pump, on the main crank pulley or near theflywheel.

` The Crankshaft position sensor also known as
the crank position sensor is an electronic device
used in an engine to record the rate at which thecrankshaft is spinning. This information is used by
the ECU to control ignition and fuel injection. The
sensor system consists of a rotating part, typically
a disc, as well as a static part, the actual sensor.Typically a Hall Effect sensor is used as the static
part requiring a magnet to be mounted
somewhere in the periphery of the rotating disc,
but other detection principles can also beemployed i.e. optical or inductive.

using crankshaft sensors for controlling spark
timing in their petrol variants.` These sensors can withstand high temperature.
