Simple Recipes for Durga Puja
Durga Puja is one of the special festivals of India. The festival is a combination of fasting and
feasting. For those with a sweet tooth Durga Puja is a blessing and a perfect time for

simple and easy to make sweet and savoury recipes. Relish these dishes with family and

1. Nimki
Ingredients:
White Flour - 250 g
Salt - As per taste
Cumin - 1/2 tsp
Oil- 2 cups (for deep frying)
Method:
Roast the cumin and grind it. Mix cumin powder, salt and flour. Add water and knead into
smooth dough. Flatten the dough with a rolling pin and cut it into diamond shapes or any shape
you please. Heat oil in a pan and fry the Nimki till they turn golden brown. Let it cool and serve.
2. Rajgira ki poori
Ingredients:
Rajgira Flour - 2 Cups
Potato - 1 (large)
Rock salt - one pinch
Dusting- 2 tbsp Rajgira Flour
Oil - 2 cups
Method:
Boil potato, peel it and mash it. Add flour, rock salt to the mashed potato and mix well. Splash a
little water and knead the dough. Avoid adding too much water at once otherwise the dough
becomes sticky. Take a small portion from the dough and flatten it into circular shapes with a
rolling pin. These are called puris. Repeat with the entire dough. Heat oil in a pan and deep fry
the puris till golden brown. Serve with your favorite vegetable curry.
3. Sandesh
Ingredients:
Maida - 1tbsp
Powdered Sugar - 1 tsp
Paneer - 500g
Condensed Milk - 400g
Method:
Blend all the ingredients together. Heat the mixture in a thick bottomed pan stirring continuously
on low flame till dry. Pour into a plate and cut into desired shapes. Garnish with pistachios.
4. Vellai Dosa (Jaggery Dosa/ Jaggery Crepe)
Ingredients:
Powdered Jaggery - ¾ cup
Wheat Flour - 1 ½ cups
Ghee to grease dosa/crepe
Cardamom powder - ½ tsp
Method:
Mix powdered jaggery and wheat flour. Add water to make a smooth paste. Ensure that there
are no lumps. Add cardamom powder and mix well. Pour a ladle full of batter on a hot pan and
spread in circular motion to make a crepe. This crepe is called a dosa. Grease the crepe with ¼
teaspoon of ghee and cook on low flame. Flip and cook on other side. Serve hot.
5. Sabudana Kheer
Ingredients:
Sabudana (Sago) - ½ cup
Sugar - ½ cup
Milk - 2 cups
Cardamom Pods - 3 crushed
Water - 2 cups
Cashews - 10 (finely cut)
Saffron - 4-5 strands
Method:
Wash the sabudana (sago) till it’s free from starch. Soak it in 2 cups of water for 15 minutes and
then boil it on a high flame. After few minutes add milk, crushed cardamom and sugar to it and
cook on low flame. When the mixture turns thick, turn off the flame, add cashew and saffron
strands. Serve cold.
