SHOPPING & DINING IN LOWER MANHATTAN
My family loves to eat out. We’re always excited to try different places and experience new cuisines.
For adventurous diners like us, Lower Manhattan is the new gastronomic frontier. A flourishing food culture is taking root south of Chambers Street, and new restaurants are opening at a dizzying clip. The newcomers join an already impressive culinary kaleido-
scope that is drawing casual diners and foodies alike to Manhattan’s southern tip.
But that’s not all. Along with the restaurants, new stores are sprouting up throughout the district, complementing and reshaping a retail landscape that already includes storied shopping institutions like Century 21. Within the next two years, more than 1.5 million square feet of new and repositioned retail space will come online in Lower Manhattan.
So where does the intrepid diner and shopper begin?
That’s where the Downtown Alliance’s 2015 Shop Dine Guide comes in: your best source for shops, eateries, bars, museums, community resources and attractions in Lower Manhattan. Whatever you’re looking for, odds are, our guide can help you find it.
The burgeoning restaurant and shopping scene is indicative of a larger story in Lower Manhattan, as a transformation that has been in the works for more than a decade now tangibly takes shape. This dynamic neighborhood is at a crossroads — signs of change and progress are everywhere.
The National September 11 Memorial Museum opened in May 2014, and much of the fencing around the memorials at the World Trade Center site has come down. The MTA’s much-anticipated Fulton Center is expected to open in the fall of 2014 and will introduce 65,000 square feet of new retail space leased by the Westfield Group. Westfield will also unveil 150 new shops and restaurants at its iconic Westfield World Trade Center, expected to open in late 2015.
Big things are also happening at Brookfield Place (formerly the World Financial Center), where a radical reinvention is ushering in a host of cutting-edge new retail offerings.
Brookfield’s 600-seat Hudson Eats dining terrace recently opened to much fanfare, offering waterfront views and thirteen gourmet eateries. Debuting at Brookfield Place in late 2014 and early 2015 is a French marketplace called
“Le District.” Major changes are also afoot at Pier A, where a new restaurant complex is opening in late 2014. On the east side, the Howard Hughes Corporation is giving Pier 17 a complete makeover, with a new glass-clad building that will house a diverse mix of shopping and dining and will open in 2016.
There’s much, much more happening in Lower Manhattan. I hope this guide can help you discover all that this evolving, 24/7 neighborhood has to offer.

This is an especially dynamic time for Lower Manhattan. Residents, workers and visitors already have a wide- ranging array of shopping options to choose from. But in the coming year, the retail landscape will grow even more diverse as a host of new stores and restaurants emerges south of Chambers Street. The area is in the midst of a retail revolution.
The new arrivals — which will include high-end stores, boutiques and popular chains — are complementing existing institutions such as Century 21. Lower Manhattan is poised to become one of the city’s major retail destinations.
What follows is a list of Lower Manhattan’s myriad shopping opportunities. In the next year, this list will grow much bigger — please check our website for new openings and additional information about Lower Manhattan at DowntownNY.com.
All information is subject to change. We apologize for any errors or omissions. For inclusion in our next edition, email us at [email protected] or call 212-566-6700.
The Downtown Alliance vigorously supports retail development and works to nurture foot traffic throughout the district. In addition to distributing the Shop Dine Guide to promote area stores, restaurants, bars and cafés, we orchestrate an annual holiday campaign which is featured prominently throughout the neighborhood on outdoor newsstands, bus shelters, subway displays, and PATH trains, as well as in print and digital advertising. We distribute a multilingual guide, and the “Plan Your Visit” section of our website is available in multiple languages. We also offer a “Downtown Deals” program, a free service that supports area retail and restaurants by allowing them to post and promote deals on our site.

• Is 100% free!

Founded in 1995, the Alliance for Downtown New York is the business improvement district for Lower Manhattan, south of Chambers Street. Our mission is to provide service, advocacy, research and information to advance Lower Manhattan as a global model of a 21st Century central business district for businesses, residents and visitors. We do this by supporting commercial tenancy; promoting and sustaining the tourism, technology and retail sectors; and acting as Lower Manhattan’s authoritative research and information source.
Our operations team strives to make the neighborhood safe, clean and welcoming. We provide free public transportation, offer homeless outreach, empty hundreds of garbage and recycling receptacles every day, clear snow off sidewalks, remove graffiti and repair street furniture. Our public safety officers work with the NPYD to keep crime rates in the area among the lowest in the city.
The Alliance is dedicated to making Lower Manhattan a thriving and enjoyable place for all.
